Good evening, and
welcome to BBC
news at 6
• And for tonights main story,
news companies such as the
BBC News,Daily
Mail,Guardian,Sky news and the
Independent, have now
released news apps. Where the
public can now access the news
on their phone
• The recent headlines of
all of the apps are mostly
on the bomb attacks that
have happened in the US
• The headlines are:
• BBC-New York bombs
“both pressure cookers”
• Daily Mail “The hero cops
injured during Final shootout
with New York and New
Jersey bomber as bar owner
reveals how he spotted the
terrorist asleep in his doorway”
• Guardian “US
bombing/five more
devices found at train
station in new jersey
• Sky news “NY bomb
suspect charged with
attempted murder”
• Independent “The war
without end”
• Majority of the news
apps have a top news
tab, which happen to
be updated hourly.
• This makes it easy for
the public to see and
access the top news
that is currently
happening in the world
today.
• However,for the
independent the public
have to pay for the news
story. The way they present
their news is by having the
top news story on the front
of the page
• All news platforms have their
news articles in third person.
The BBC, Guardian, Sky News
and the Independent use formal
language. Using words such as
“misdirected” “ Offences’ “
Incident” and “Condolences”
• The Daily Mail on the
other hand uses informal
language. Using slang
words such as “flipping”
and expletive words such
as “dazed”
• The Daily Mail uses
informal language,
however maybe not as
informal as the sun
• The BBC and the Guardian
also use slang words such
as “Hide and seek”.
However for the BBC, they
mainly have their slang
words in quotes from
witnesses.
• Majority of these news
apps have small
paragraphs and break up
these paragraphs
through pictures and
videos.
• This is to ensure that
the audience is still
engaged in the story.
• Also, all of the news
apps have one big
main headline and
small headlines
underneath.
• The Daily Mail and Sky
news frequently use short
sentences, this could be
because their audience
might not want to read
paragraphs after
paragraphs of information
• The rest of the news platforms
use long and sometimes
complex sentences when
writing their news stories. This
could be because they have an
older target audience and they
would be able to understand
what they are reading
• Unlike the rest of the news
platforms, the independent
have their news article
written up in columns, like a
traditional newspaper
layout.
• This could be
because their target
audience prefer that
layout
• The Independents influence is their
target audience who might be older
age, maybe 50+. This could be
because the Independent uses
ambitious vocabulary that younger
readers might not be able to
read.You could say that the
Independent have a niche target
audience
• The BBC, Sky News and the Guardian
all have the target audience of working
class, middle aged people (20-60).They
are all influenced by this type of
audience. You could say that these
news providers have a mass target
audience as the news stories they
provide would appeal to everyone.
• As they all have a mass audience,
the BBC,Sky News and the
Guardian have various types of
topics. Varying from sport to politics.
This is to ensure all types of people
will read their news articles
• The Daily Mail also have a mass
audience.It is said that their
target audience is mainly women,
as 55% of its readers are
women. This means that the
Daily Mail have to chose topics
that would interest women
• Which is why most of the Daily
Mail’s content is celebrity news and
controversial topics. These are the
types of news content women would
be thought to be appealed to
stereotypically
• The audiences
expectations vary
depending on the news
company.
• For the BBC, Guardian, Sky News
and The Independent,the
audiences expectations are that the
news that they produce is
unbiased,informative and very
formal
• The audiences expectations of the
Daily Mail is that it should have
informative content but have a slight
bit of humour in it. Perhaps maybe
even be a bit bias
• All of the news apps use pictures
and videos in their news stories.
This is to make sure the audience
are still engaged in what they are
reading.
• The pictures and videos are
relevant to what the news story is.
The daily mail though are notorious
for using controversial pictures to
draw more people in
• Majority of the the top stories are
mainly in global news, politics and
the Paralympics; news stories and
events/stories that are currently
happening in the world
today.Stories that the general
public are interested in.
• The BBC have a section where the
audience can add their own news
stories. The audience can tailer
their account to make their own
personalised news feed.
• By doing this, the audience can
easily receive news that interests
them
• The Daily Mail,Guardian and the
Independent have a share button,
where the audience can share the
news stories through social media
and online mail.
• The Daily Mail also have a comment
section, where the audience can can
comment on their opinions of the
story
• The Independent however
don’t have a share section.
The audience cannot express
their opinions of share the
news story they are
interested in
• And thats all from the
