New Zealand consists of two main islands where 75% of its people live in the North Island. The North and South Islands together are similar in size to Colorado. In the South there are fewer people and more wilderness, while popular activities in the North include hiking in Tongariro National Park and seeing marine life in Kaikoura. The best time to visit is during the summer months.
