Big Ben counts down the last seconds of the year in the UK, followed by a fireworks display that many watch on television. On New Year's Eve, most people in the UK go to work but leave early to attend parties at home, pubs, or clubs with friends and family, where they sing "Auld Lang Syne" and celebrate the new year at midnight with hugs, kisses, and well wishes. The next day, January 1st, is a public holiday as most relax with family after the celebrations.
