Orpic, Oman's national oil and petrochemical company, will invest in a flare gas recovery system at its Sohar Refinery. The project aims to recover vent gases that would otherwise be flared and use the compressed recovered gas as fuel. It is part of Orpic's efforts to reduce emissions and flaring. Previous initiatives have already reduced flaring at the refinery by 60% compared to 2011 levels. The new project involves collecting, compressing, and physically separating flare gases for reuse as fuel.
UAE-based Marsol International and Aubin Group have partnered to provide a pigging solution for non-piggable pipelines, which involves using pipeline preservation fluid to displace oil in pipelines. They successfully tested this on three 48-inch pipelines, saving a client over $3 million. The partnership will now offer this solution in the Middle East, Far East, and Africa.
Iraq's crude oil exports in April averaged 2.5 million bpd, higher than March but still below its 2014 target, due in part to repeated attacks on a northern pipeline. The damaged pipeline could be fixed quickly but security is needed to protect it first.

Exxon Mobil has pulled its staff from Abu Dhabi's onshore oil fields after its concession agreement with Adnoc expired earlier this month, unlike other major oil companies. Gulf countries are embracing renewable energy to reduce reliance on oil and gas, with Saudi Arabia planning to generate 54,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2032 through solar, wind, waste-to-energy and geothermal projects costing over $100 billion. The UAE is leading renewable energy projects in the Gulf region to diversify energy sources and meet rising power demand, with Abu Dhabi targeting 7% of energy from renewables by 2020.
The document discusses efforts by the European Union to diversify its natural gas sources and reduce dependence on Russia. The EU is hoping that future gas imports from Iran, through proposed pipeline projects in the Southern Corridor, can help meet this goal. Lifting of sanctions on Iran as part of a potential nuclear deal could allow Iranian gas to start flowing to Europe. However, significant challenges remain in developing the infrastructure to transport Iranian and other Caspian gas to European markets.

Seventeen Japanese companies and two other organizations will showcase solar power technologies at the World Future Energy Summit 2015 in Abu Dhabi, including space-based solar power systems and a floating city concept powered by solar. Saudi Arabia plans to invest $91 billion over 10 years to expand its petrochemical industry and increase production capacity. A joint venture between Saudi Arabian Mining Company and Alcoa has produced the first alumina from local Saudi bauxite at their integrated aluminum complex in Ras Al Khair, a significant milestone.
The UAE Energy Minister said that the current low oil prices could boost global economic growth in 2015 higher than expected. This is because lower oil prices stimulate economic activity. However, the oversupply of oil needs to be absorbed and may take months or years to resolve fully. The IMF has forecasted UAE GDP growth of 4.5% in 2015 due to stronger non-oil sectors. Additionally, Gulfsands Petroleum discovered gas deposits in Morocco and ConocoPhillips started production from its Eldfisk II project in Norway.
Oman's Ministry of Oil and Gas has signed a concession agreement with Medco Arabia and Intaj for exploring and developing block 56 in Oman, which contains crude oil and natural gas deposits. Under the production sharing agreement, the companies will explore for oil and gas in the block and Oman's government will not bear any financial commitments during the exploration period. DNV GL and Qatar's shipyard N-KOM signed an agreement to cooperate on promoting LNG as a fuel for ships and developing infrastructure like bunker barges. Tethys Oil suspended an exploration well in Block 4 in Oman for further study after recovering an oil sample indicating the presence of oil.
Mubadala Petroleum, an Abu Dhabi investment fund, made a substantial gas discovery in offshore Malaysia. This was Mubadala's fourth find in the block and together the discoveries represent a significant gas resource that could be commercially developed. Mubadala owns 55% of the block and will work with partners Petronas and Shell to evaluate development options. Additionally, construction of a large urea plant in Saudi Arabia called SAFCO-5 has been delayed until early 2015, pushing back the plant's start up. Iraqi oil exports from southern ports remain near record levels in June despite insurgent violence in northern and central Iraq, which has not impacted the south.
Access Power MEA has been awarded a contract to develop Uganda's first solar power plant, a 10 MWp facility in Soroti. The $17 million project will provide power for 40,000 households and is expected to be completed by December 2015. It was selected through Uganda's GET FiT program and will sell power at $0.1638/kWh, while end users pay $0.11/kWh. BP plans to invest over $12 billion in Egypt's energy sector in the next 5 years, aiming to double its gas supplies to the domestic market and developing the West Nile Delta project. Egypt also plans to repay $4.9 billion in debts to oil and gas companies within 6 months.

Pakistan and Bangladesh are increasing their use of expensive diesel fuel for electricity generation due to a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports amid high global energy prices and supply issues. Diesel generation in Pakistan rose to the highest level in 7 years in January while LNG generation fell to its lowest in almost 2 years. The countries face higher costs and economic impacts from relying more on diesel instead of LNG. Oman plans to award 3 new oil and gas blocks this year to boost production, and is in negotiations to sign an agreement for development of Block 11 with Shell and TotalEnergies.

The value of contracts awarded to local Emirati companies for the Barakah nuclear power plant project in the UAE has reached $11 billion, more than double the value from a year ago. The project is on track and will provide about 25% of the UAE's electricity needs once complete. New base march 03 2022 energy news issue - 1491 by khaled al awadiKhaled Al Awadi

Total refined product stocks in Fujairah, UAE fell to 15.895 million barrels in the week ending October 30th, their lowest level since reporting began. Light and middle distillate stocks fell to 4.266 million and 2.245 million barrels respectively, both at record lows. A quarter of the world's oil refineries could be at risk of closure by 2035 if governments meet targets to limit fossil fuel use and curb emissions as demand growth for transportation fuels is expected to slow with efficiency gains and electric vehicles.

The project is on track and will provide about 25% of the UAE's electricity needs once complete. Qatar will reduce its condensate exports by 10 shipments per month starting in January 2017 as a new splitter at its Ras Laffan refinery comes online, allowing it to process more condensate domestically. US shale oil output is expected to decline for the seventh consecutive month in July due to continued low oil prices, while natural gas production is forecast to fall for a fifth month.

Dana Gas secured a $100 million loan to fund development of the Zora gas field in the UAE, which will provide 150 MW of gas per day to Sharjah once operational. Qatar's current account surplus is projected to narrow to 21.6% of GDP by 2016 due to lower oil prices and rising imports, though gas reserves are expected to last over 150 years at current production rates. The growth of shale gas production in the US is negatively impacting Middle Eastern petrochemical industries by increasing competition and reducing regional natural gas supplies.
- ABB was awarded a $175 million contract by ZADCO to upgrade power generation facilities at Zirku Island in the UAE to increase oil production capacity. The project involves installing additional power generation and will be completed by June 2016.
- The Middle East needs to invest $316 billion over 5 years on new power generation and infrastructure to meet growing energy demand, which is increasing over 3 times the global average. Limited natural gas supplies may hamper some countries' ability to expand power capacity.
- Qatar Petroleum withdrew from a joint bid group with Mubadala and Oman Oil to acquire Occidental Petroleum's 40% stake in its Middle Eastern assets, which is expected to sell for up to
Dubai plans to reduce energy consumption in buildings by 20% by 2020 through mandatory energy efficiency standards for new buildings. This includes measures like insulation and solar water heating. Dubai Municipality forecasts that the amount of floor space dedicated to green buildings will increase from 54 million sq ft last year to 90 million sq ft in 2016. TAQA, an Abu Dhabi state-owned energy company, forecasts capital expenditures of $2.15 billion for 2014, lower than the $2.37 billion spent in 2013. TAQA spent $356 million in the first quarter of 2014, with $290 million for oil and gas projects and $66 million for power and water projects. Lukoil plans to drill two deep evaluation wells in Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter desert in early 2015 to search for unconventional tight gas deposits, after other companies abandoned conventional searches. Petrofac was awarded a $970 million contract for a gas project in Algeria.
APICORP predicts $685 billion will be invested in Arab energy projects over the next 5 years, though lower than previous forecasts. Independent Study - College of Wooster Research (2023-2024) FDI, Culture, Glo...AntoniaOwensDetwiler
"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
OJP data from firms like Vicinity Jobs have emerged as a complement to traditional sources of labour demand data, such as the Job Vacancy and Wages Survey (JVWS). Ibrahim Abuallail, PhD Candidate, University of Ottawa, presented research relating to bias in OJPs and a proposed approach to effectively adjust OJP data to complement existing official data (such as from the JVWS) and improve the measurement of labour demand.
