INTRODUCTION
This presentation is based on information regarding remote or
cloud storage. Its objective is to make a compelling business
case for our organization to consider the associated benefits of
storing data in the cloud. The benefits gained from such a
project will out-weigh the risk. It shall also serve as a platform
for our organization to gain competitive advantage over our
rivals.
By Neville Fuller
AGENDA
Step 1 - All staff are to have access to the handouts
Step 2 - Follow the powerpoint
Step 3 - This presentation has both visual and aural content
Step 4 - The financial details have analysis on known inputs
Step 5 - The sensitivity analysis is based on three sets of
variables
Step 6 - Conclusions to be drawn
Step 7 - References
PURPOSE
The purpose of this presentation is to gain executive
commitment to divest from traditional data storage methods to
cloud storage.
This will benefit our organization; it will be the basis of
competitive advantage over our rivals. Benefits include:
Improved data storage 
Improved data retrieval 
A tool for collaboration 
HOW THE CLOUD IS UTILISED AND ITS
ASSOCIATED RISKS
How is the cloud utilized?
Accessed remotely by
organizations
Tool for collaboration for
businesses to share data
Accessed through the internet
Pay for what you use
What are the risks?
Privacy
Change management
Security
Risk of being left behind to
embrace technology
EXPERIENCES OF OTHER
COMPANIES
What are the problems?
How is the data accessed?
What is scalability?
Pay for what you use
Encrypted data service for security
The cloud has an ease of access
Privacy agreement between parties
Agreed service level in place
THE ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES OF CLOUD STORAGE
Advantages:
Encrypted data for security
Ease of access for staff
Pay for what you use
Reliable storage facility
Invisibility
Disaster management tool
= Source of competitive
advantage.
Disadvantages:
The cloud is only as good as
the internet connection
The service provider maybe
off-shore, affecting privacy
and governance
Data ownership is contentious
Speed may be an issue
Perceptions over security.
THE SCOPE TO WHICH OUR
ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD UTILISE
CLOUD SERVICES
Plan the change.
Do the change (test sample).
Check the results to confirm
the objective has been met.
Act on the results.
When proven successful it will
be rolled out through the rest
of the organization.
THE INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIRED
FOR CLOUD STORAGE
IT infrastructure requirements
include:
Hardware platforms
Operating systems
Enterprise software
applications
Data management
Networking platforms
Internet platforms
System integration services
and a cloud service provider.
BEST-PRACTICE FOR HOW
CLOUD SHOULD BE MANAGED
Agreements should be in
place for:
Security and data protection
Service levels
Who has access to the data
If the provider is offshore
what is the governance and
regulation that controls the
service provider.
INTERNAL RATE OF RETURN
Investment can be repaid in
3 years based on the
modelling in Scenario 1.
Typically the higher the
IRR, the greater the
conviction should be to
undertake the project.
VARIABLES
Input cost.
Predicted savings
Organizational change
Effects
Profitability of the change
CONCLUSIONS
Advantages gained through
strategic reinvention, better
decision making and deeper
collaboration for our staff will
enable this project to be
successful.
