Machine learning techniques applied to detect cyber attacks on web applications
The increased usage of cloud services, growing number of web applications users, changes in network infrastructure that connects devices running mobile operating systems and constantly evolving network technology cause novel challenges for cyber security. As a result, to counter arising threats, network security mechanisms, sensors and protection schemes also have to evolve, to address the needs and problems of the users. In this article, we focus on countering emerging application layer cyber attacks since those are listed as top threats and the main challenge for network and cyber security. The major contribution of the article is the proposition of machine learning approach to model normal behaviour of application and to detect cyber attacks. The model consists of patterns (in form of Perl Compatible Regular Expressions (PCRE) regular expressions) that are obtained using graph-based segmentation technique and dynamic programming. The model is based on information obtained from HTTP requests generated by client to a web server. We have evaluated our method on CSIC 2010 HTTP Dataset achieving satisfactory results.

A KEY LEVEL SELECTION WITHIN HASH CHAINS FOR THE EFFICIENT ENERGY CONSUMPTION...ijasa
A wireless sensor network is composed of a base station (BS) and numerous sensor nodes. The sensor
nodes lack security because they operate in an open environment, such as the military. In particular, a false
report injection attack captures and compromises sensor nodes. The attack then causes the compromised
nodes to generate forward false reports. Owing to the false report injection attack, not only does the sensor
network have a false alarm, but its limited energy is also drained. In order to defend the false report
injection attack, over the past few years, several studies have been made looking for a solution to the
attack. Ye et al. studied statistical en-route filtering (SEF). SEF is a method of stochastically verifying event
reports in the en-route filtering phase. SEF can filter many false reports early using verification of
intermediate nodes. However, because the number of keys in a sensor node is fixed by the system, the
sensor network cannot control the event report verification probability depending on the circumstances of
the network. Therefore, it is difficult to efficiently consume energy of the sensor network. In order to solve
the problem, we propose a method which controls the event report verification probability by using a key
sequence level of an event report. In the proposed method, when an intermediate node receives an event
report, the node verifies the event report by comparing a key sequence level of the report and its key
sequence level. Elements determining the key sequence level include the density of neighbour nodes in the
sensing range of a center of stimulus (CoS), the number of hops from the CoS to the BS, and the average of
the key sequence level of intermediate nodes in each path. We simulated the proposed method and the SEF
method to evaluate the performance in terms of energy efficiency and security. In the simulation results, the
proposed method consumed an average of 7.9% less energy of the sensor nodes compared to SEF method.
The number of false reports arriving at the BS of the proposed method was also less, by an average of 6.4,
compared to the SEF method. Through the results, we can see that when the number of false report is large
in the sensor network, the proposed method is more energy-efficient and secure than the SEF method.

Online stream mining approach for clustering network trafficeSAT Journals
Abstract A large number of research have been proposed on intrusion detection system, which leads to the implementation of agent based intelligent IDS (IIDS), Non – intelligent IDS (NIDS), signature based IDS etc. While building such IDS models, learning algorithms from flow of network traffic plays crucial role in accuracy of IDS systems. The proposed work focuses on implementing the novel method to cluster network traffic which eliminates the limitations in existing online clustering algorithms and prove the robustness and accuracy over large stream of network traffic arriving at extremely high rate. We compare the existing algorithm with novel methods to analyse the accuracy and complexity. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Title :A Novel En-route Filtering Scheme against False Data Injection Attacks in Cyber-Physical Networked Systems
Language : NS2
Project Link :
http://kasanpro.com/p/ns2/en-route-filtering-scheme-false-data-injection-attacks-cyber-physical-networked-systems
Abstract : In Cyber-Physical Networked Systems (CPNS), the adversary can inject false measurements to the
controller through compromised sensor nodes, which not only threaten the security of the system, but also consumes
network resources. To deal with this issue, a number of en-route filtering schemes have been designed for wireless
sensor networks in the past. However, these schemes either lack resilience to the number of compromised nodes or
depend on the statically configure routes and node localization, which are not suitable for CPNS. In this paper, we
propose a Polynomial-based Compromise-Resilient En-route Filtering scheme (PCREF), which can filter false injected
data effectively and achieve a high resilience to the number of compromised nodes without relying on static routes
and node localization. Particularly, PCREF adopts polynomials instead of MACs (Message Authentication Codes) for
endorsing measurement reports to achieve the resilience to attacks. Each node stores two types of polynomials:
authentication polynomial and check polynomial, derived from the primitive polynomial, and used for endorsing and
verifying the measurement reports. Via extensive theoretical analysis and experiments, our data show that PCREF
achieves better filtering capacity and resilience to the large number of compromised nodes in comparison to the
existing schemes.
