NETS FOR STUDENTS Grades PK–2 (Ages 4–8) By:Rosalinda. Avila 1
1.Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich resources. (1,2) For this assignment I will have my students take an original photo using a digital camera. After they have their photo they will create a fictional story to go along with their photo. When each student has completed this, we will break up into small groups and share. 2
2. Identify, research, and collect data on an environmental issue using digital resources and propose a developmentally appropriate solution. (1,3,4) Going green and being consumer friendly is an idea that is becoming more and more popular. For this assignment each student will be required to find out, through internet research, what are appropriate items to recycle, and where the nearest recycling center is located. We will find photos using Google images of the recyclables and create bingo cards. 3
3. Engage in learning activities with learners from multiple cultures through e-mail and other electronic means. (2,6) As a class we will send weekly emails to a class in China because it will be a mixture of cultures. We take pictures of class activities, upload and send them to our computer pals. Each week it will be four different students who split up typing the email. http://www.faithadopt.org/home/penpal/ 4
9. Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology. (6) Students will color and label a diagram on a computer and practice the words. They will then be shown a picture of each item and name it out loud. 5
Information NETS Performance indicators were taken from the Iste.org Grades PK–2 (Ages 4–8) The following experiences with technology and digital resources are examples of learning activities in which students might engage during PK-Grade 2 (Ages 4-8): 1. Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich resources. (1,2) 2. Identify, research, and collect data on an environmental issue using digital resources and propose a developmentally appropriate solution. (1,3,4) 3. Engage in learning activities with learners from multiple cultures through e-mail and other electronic means. (2,6) 4. In a collaborative work group, use a variety of technologies to produce a digital presentation or product in a curriculum area. (1,2,6) 5. Find and evaluate information related to a current or historical person or event using digital resources. (3) 6. Use simulations and graphical organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth such as the life cycles of plants and animals. (1,3,4) 7. Demonstrate safe and cooperative use of technology.
