4. NEO REALISM
Neorealism or structural realism may be a theory of
diplomacy that says power is that the most vital think
about diplomacy . It was first outlined by Kenneth Waltz
in1979 book Theory of International Politics. Alongside
neoliberalism, neorealism is one among the 2 most
influential contemporary approaches to international
relations; the two perspectives have dominated
international relations theory for the last three decades.
Neorealism emerged from the North American discipline
of political science, and reformulates the classical realist
tradition of E. H. Carr, Hans Morgenthau, George
Kennan and Reinhold Niebuhr.
5. ORIGIN
Neorealism is an ideological departure from Hans Morgenthau's
writing on classical realism. Classical realism originally explained
the machinations of international politics as being based on
human nature, and therefore subject to the ego and emotion of
world leaders. Neorealist thinkers instead propose that structural
constraints—not strategy, egoism, or motivation—will determine
behaviour in diplomacy. John Mearsheimer made significant
distinctions between his version of offensive neorealism and
Morgenthau in his book titled The Tragedy of world power
Politics.
6. ITS RELEVANCE IN INDIAN
CINEMA
Most films made during this period
were funded by state governments
to promote an authentic art genre
from the Indian film fraternity. The
most famous Indian "neo-realist"
was the Bengali film director
Satyajit Ray, followed by Shyam
Bengal, Mrinal Sen, Adoor Gopala
Krishnan, G. Aravindan and Girish
Kasaravalli.
7. CINEMA VERITE
Cinema Verite be a French film movement,
which happened back within the 1960s. This
film movement forced the film industry to
pay more attention to incorporating natural
actions and authentic dialogue into the films
, which showed people in day to day lives.
Cinema verite French: 'truthful cinema‘ is a
style of documentary filmmaking, invent
Cinema verite can involve stylized set-ups
and the interaction between the filmmaker
and the subject, even to the point of
provocation.
8. ORIGIN
▰ It grew out of the French New Wave movement of the 1950s and
1960s. At the time, documentaries were long-due for change, but
film and audio equipment was too heavy or too expensive to take
out of the studio, which meant filmmakers were limited in the
types of movies they could make. Beginning in the early 1960s,
new hand-held camera technology enabled filmmakers to follow
real world events in a way that was more intimate and less
obtrusive than had been previously possible.
▰ What emerged was the method of filmmaking known as cinema
verite. The style originated in Europe, but evolved into “direct
cinema” when it was imported to the United States and Canada
by Richard Leacock, Robert Drew.
9. Relevance In Cinema
Some argue that the obvious presence of the filmmaker and camera was
seen by most cinéma vérité filmmakers as the best way to reveal the truth in
cinema. Many film directors of the 1960s and later adopted use of the
handheld camera, techniques and cinéma vérité styles for their fiction films
based on screenplays and actors. They often had actors using improvisation
to get a more spontaneous quality in their talks and action. Influential
examples include director John Cassavetes, who broke ground with his film
Faces. The techniques (if not always the spirit) of cinéma vérité can also be
seen in fiction films from The Blair Witch Project to Saving Private Ryan.
10. Mise-en-scene
Mise-en-scene is the stage design and arrangement of actors in
scenes for a theatre or film production, both in visual arts and
through storyboarding, visual theme, and cinematography, and
in narrative storytelling through the direction.
11. ORIGIN
In the 1950s, film critics and the French film magazine Cahiers in Cinema began
using the term mise-en-scene when reviewing movies.
Movies a style of filming prominently in Italy after World War II, characterized by
a concern for social issues and often shot on location with untrained actors, In
French, mise-en-scene literally means "the action of putting onto the stage." The
term's use originated in stage drama, where it refers to the way actors and scenery
props are arranged; as its usage expanded into other narrative arts, its meaning
shifted.
12. Relevance In Indian Cinema
Mise-en-scene has its roots in theatre and is one of the key
components within film language. It is used to describe how
sets, locations, props, costume and make-up are used in film.
“In controlling the mise-en-scene, the director stages the
event for the camera”
The term's use originated in stage drama, where it refers to
the way actors and scenery props are arranged; as its usage
expanded into other narrative arts, its meaning shifted.
