The Negev covers over half of Israel's land area but is very arid. The temperature ranges from 28-45C and annual rainfall is low, especially in the east near Eilat. The Negev contains several towns as well as 7 small Bedouin cities. The population is projected to grow significantly by 2030. The Negev landscape includes nature reserves and unique geological formations. Educational and research institutions are located throughout the region. Transportation includes airports, a planned railway, and regional roads to connect towns. Local economic opportunities exist in industrial areas and commercial centers.

Transportation is a central topic of discussion and argument in Israel (as it is in many cities worldwide). It is a topic that directly affects our quality of life. With this much focus on transportation, you would expect that the researchers, planners, government officials, politicians, and NGOs base their positions and claims on readily available open data on the Level of Service of transit in Israel by location and employ easy to use open transit analysis and planning tools on a regular basis. But if this is your expectation, you would be wrong!
Open-data on the Level of Service of transit in Israel by location is not available! And neither are easy to use open transit analysis and planning tools.
This project aims to close this gap.
During last year, comprehensive study had been done by MIU team that was initiated by the Mirage Foundation. The aim of the project was to present tools and indices for urban prosperity and quality of life, in the urban communities in the Negev. The study had been analyzing and examining the existing situation, in accordance with the criteria of urban quality of life based on the core principles of the policy document "Urban Israel 2050". This presentation is a summary of this study which originally had been done in Hebrew.
