as close as possible. The user then clicks the Specials button to allow them to select or override
attributes that are not modeled to the selected component. The user then enters the Special Price
ID received from GIS and/or Sales Service with appropriate pricing and then changes attribute
description(s) to specify the required special product.
z Actuator sizing inputs should be reviewed since some attribute values made special will not update
the actuator sizing input value. (i.e. unbalanced area w/special port diameter)
z The EM structure generated for a Modified Special component will be based on the standard
attribute selections before the component is made a special. RSPPL’s and drawings will be
generated based from this EM structure.
z Also, inter-product rules, that are written in the First 2.1 product model, will fire rules for other
components in the item based on the standard attributes before it was made special. (i.e.

z This method should be used when special attribute values do not change the external or internal

z Once the component to be modeled after is selected the user should first list reduce the standard attribute value selections in the drop down
lists to describe the component. The setting of the standard attributes for the modeled after product can be done through user selection of
standard attributes that are shown without an (*) in front of the value in the drop down lists, adding additional components to the
configuration and validating the modeled after product through valve/actuator sizing.
z Users should then Set Defaults for remaining attributes and review to see that the standard attribute values selected accurately describe the
special component.
z User should then either select special attribute values or override attribute values to describe the special component where standard
attributes do not accurately describe the special component. Special attribute values shown in the drop down lists are designated with an
(*) preceding the name.
z This specials method should be used to make a component special if a user is going to select or overrides attribute values that alter the
internal or external dimensions of the standard attributes for the product it is modeled after. Such attribute values like Valve size, Yoke Boss
Size and/or extended Valve Travels would have an impact on the dimensions of the product.
z There will be no EM structure generated and consequently no RSPPL’s or drawings can be generated for these types of specials.

z Actuator sizing inputs should be reviewed since some attribute values that are made special will not update the actuator sizing input value.

product and then the attributes were

additional components. Standard

z In some cases when a user has configured a special component and tries to
add additional components to the item, the user maybe blocked from adding
the component to the item configuration because of inter-product rules that
are firing between the components standard attributes. The Special/Invalid
are firing between the components standard attributes. The Special/Invalid
Item method is used when a user wants to make a separation of the inter-
product rules that are firing between components in an item configuration.
In this example the 16” FBT is modeled after the EAT product line
which does not have attribute values that match the 585CLS
c does ot a e att bute a ues t at atc t e 585C S
actuator such as Boss Size and Travel. The user has three
options of proceeding at this point. First option is to clear all
default attributes to item components and then try and add the
product again. If this does not work, second option is to start over
and select a different product to model after that would have
standard attribute values that are similar to the product being
added. If that does not work, third option is to use Special Invalid
Item method to add product to item

z The check box to add an invalid item is only enabled when one of the components to the item is made into a special
component. The user can designate what part of the item is special and what part of the item is invalid in order to
turn off the inter-product rules that occur between the Special component and the Invalid components. This allows
the user to add the components without having to make them special. Inter-product rules would still fire between
components for the Specials part of the item and the Invalid part of the item. This designation can only be done
once per item Once the designation is made a user can determine what part of the item is Special and what part is
once per item. Once the designation is made a user can determine what part of the item is Special and what part is
Invalid by clicking on each component in the Item Configuration window. When clicking on the component and there
is no check mark in the box it is the Special part of the item. When clicking on the component and there is a check
mark in the box it is the Invalid part of the item. Care should be taken when adding product to the item once the
Special Invalid designation is made since the user can now alter the normal valve/actuator/positioner-
controller/accessory sequence of an item.
Place a check mark in the box by
clicking on the box. This designates
that the product line and any other
subsequent product lines that are
added to the item configuration will
be part of the Invalid portion of the
item To add product lines to the
item. To add product lines to the
Specials portion of the item, simply
deselect the check mark and add
the product line.

z There are two Special Product methods to configure a special product. Both of these methods should be used when
there are no Fisher products that would have a set of attributes to adequately describe the product.
z One method is similar to the Unique Special method where a user selects the product line “Special Products” for
Product Attributes Modeled after. The user would again define how the Special Product relates to other components
in the item and then enters the Special Price ID he/she receives from GIS and/or Sales Service. Because there is
li it d tt ib t d i ti th ld d t l t i f ti i th f f t t i t
limited attribute description the user would need to supplement any information in the form of notes to communicate
with personnel in pricing, order admin and manufacturing as to the product requirements. The user would then have
to manually enter information for Fisher / ISA specification sheets.
z Also there is no EM structure associated with the product line “Special Products” so it will not generate drawings or
RSPPL’s.
z If the Special Product relates to the valve body in an item configuration and a Fisher/ISA specification sheet needs
to be generated this method should be used.

selects the product line from the configuration window, sets the standard attributes and then clicks the Specials
button to enter the Special Price ID and pricing information. Again, because there is limited attribute description the
user would need to supplement any information in the form of notes to communicate with personnel in pricing,

z The difference between Special Products done as a Modified Special versus Special Product done as a Unique
Special is that the Product Family and Product Type are set when Special Product is done as a Modified Special.
This will have an effect on whether the Fisher/ISA specification can be generated in Reports and how the
component relates to other components in the item.
z There is no EM structure associated with the product line “Special Products” so you will not be able to generate
drawings or RSPPL’s.

Tips for configuring Special items
z When configuring a special component you must select or override an attribute value
to describe the special requirements. This will generate a note to communicate the
special requirements when the item is entered on an order. This also will add an “S” to
the end of the Product Number to designate that the Product Number is a special
configuration
configuration.
z When selecting products to make special try to select products whose standard
attributes will closely match the attributes of the final construction. This will help to
validate the product when other components are added to the item and if
valve/actuator sizing are to be performed.
z When trying to change a completed valve configuration for an item and the change
involves a different valve type, it is recommended that the user copy the valve sizing
inputs and paste into a new item configuration.
z When a user is blocked from adding a product to the configuration or a standard
attribute has been list reduced from selection for the configuration take the following
t t if th d t tt ib t l b l t d t d d
steps to see if the product or attribute value can be selected as a standard
configuration before making it special:
– Copy the existing line item into a new line item and then click on Clear All Defaults button. See if product can
be added or attribute value is available as standard. If not, proceed to next step.
– Click on Clear All button. This will clear user selected attributes and attributes set by valve/actuator sizing.
See if product can be added or attribute value is available as standard. If not, proceed to next step.
– If valve sizing was performed, change the Valve/Reg Data for Design Pressure, Design Temperature, Flowing
Drop and Shutoff pressure to a lower value. See if product can be added or attribute value is available as
standard. If not, proceed to next step.
– Make the component Special and obtain a Special Price ID from appropriate person in GIS.

What Can I do /How can I get answers to my questions?
In an effort to facilitate the entering of Special product configurations in Symphony/First 2.1
key resources have been established to answer user questions related to product
configurations. Users should first contact the Super User in their office to answer the
g p
questions relating to the product configurations. If the Super User is unable to answer the
question, the User can then contact the Symphony/First 2 Support team via e-mail address
DLEPMMTNFisherFirst2.0@Emerson.com or phone at 641-754-3131. The Symphony/First 2
Support team will either answer the question(s) or include other Fisher departments as
pp q ( ) p
necessary to help in answering questions from LBP’s related to product configurations.
This is a pilot project and will be in effect for an undetermined amount of time to train further
and evaluate the long term need for this additional service.
