Ne-Yo has had great success with releasing albums frequently, putting out his third album, Year of the Gentleman, in 2008. While his signature R&B style had become repetitive in the industry, the lead single "Closer" was a dance-inspired departure. However, Ne-Yo acknowledges that his collaborations with Stargate helped popularize guitar-driven ballads, though he grows tired of other artists copying his style. For his new album, Ne-Yo steps further out of his comfort zone, including writing a song for Lindsay Lohan.
