A short presentation based on the ideas of Presentation Zen for the Flat Classroom Workshop at the 21st Century Learning Conference in Hong Kong in September 2009
I argue that higher education can be seen as a long tail content production engine. Simple multi-media & distribution means that digital outputs are a by-product of what academics do normally, & this is an alternative to broadcast.

Leadership and Change in Education -- 21st Century SkillsJeff Piontek
The document discusses education in the 21st century and beyond. It notes that students today are digital natives who are constantly connected, have highly customized experiences, and interaction is expected. Effective learners are lifelong learners, natural navigators, critical thinkers, effective communicators and creators, and effective global collaborators. The networked student focuses on problem solving, embraces digital tools, designs challenges for real-world problems, and has an authentic audience. Education needs to provide customized learning experiences that are relevant and focused on networked and connected learning.
My keynote for the Global Ed Conference 2013.
For the last 14 years I've been living and teaching in international schools around the world. From Munich, Germany to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Bangkok, Thailand, and now Yokohama, Japan, teaching internationally has been an amazing and fantastic adventure. Every country, school and community has taught me something new, and every day I am envious of my students who have grown up in this ever-changing environment. During this presentation, I'll share some of the key highlights (for me) of teaching in international schools. I hope this will encourage you to start your own adventure in a new country too!

God created all humans as equals, but society often sets limits based on attributes like race and beliefs. Medgar Evers, a black civil rights activist, was assassinated in 1963 in front of his home by Byron De La Beckwith, a white supremacist. The initial trials were biased due to the all-white juries and lawyers who were against civil rights. It took 30 years for Bobby Delaughter to bring the case to a third trial that convicted De La Beckwith, facing discrimination himself for defending a black man. The film illustrates the racism and prejudice against black people that was prevalent in Mississippi at the time and allowed Evers' murderer to evade justice for so long.
The poem is about a man who leaves his sleeping lover in the morning to catch another train to a new town. He knows she will cry when she wakes to his goodbye letter, but he feels he must be free to wander from place to place. The man accepts that his restless soul will likely spend his life waiting for trains in stations and moving from one town to the next.

This document discusses moving beyond linear experiences on the web and how to start thinking about interactive projects. It recommends beginning by defining the story you want to tell, envisioning the most effective way for audiences to connect with the story, and determining the necessary technology. Some challenges of more interactive experiences are that some control shifts to audiences and the message received may not be what was expected, so dedication to core themes is important.
The document discusses how the internet and social media are changing how people interact and form identities. It explores how the internet allows for networking, collaboration, learning, and identity expression. It suggests that digital media allows for fluid and negotiated identities through participation and sharing on networks. Technologies reshape both people and other technologies by creating new environments for communication, connection, and community involvement.
The document is a 20 slide PechaKucha presentation on leadership and management given by Chris Matts. It discusses the difference between leaders and managers, with leaders described as the guardians of the future who are responsible for vision and preparing for the unknown, while managers are the guardians of processes who facilitate process creation and ensure processes are not broken. It argues that a leaderless society with distributed leadership is ideal, where everyone has leadership skills to manage their own affairs.
The document discusses the future of perception and interaction with technology through concepts like augmented and diminished reality, broadcasting experiences to others, and controlling technology through natural interfaces like gestures and voice. It highlights emerging technologies like sensors, big data, the internet of things, and APIs that will shape future experiences. The document advocates for building upon these trends to create perceptive media that can change reality through highly contextual, personalized, and interactive narratives.
Professional learning networks in your classroom Nomathams
The document discusses dichotomies between personal learning environments and institutions. It notes that personal learning networks are individual and web-based, while professional learning communities are group-initiated and hierarchical. However, a collaborative apprenticeship model can merge the two by having teachers develop infusion practices through mentored lessons, group blogging for reflection, and both online and in-person meetings to help teachers grow networks and reflect professionally.
The document discusses the possibility of a "Dark Ages 2.0" where digital information from today is lost similar to how much information was lost during the original Dark Ages. It notes that most digital photos from this era will likely only survive if they were printed, as digital storage mediums like hard drives and online services are not reliable long term preservation methods.
This document discusses teaching and learning in context with the help of the web. It explores who is involved, what is being done, and how learning is happening. It addresses challenges like developing narratives of learning, autonomy, collaboration, participation, creativity, socialization, trust, and new forms of assessment. It acknowledges both opportunities and difficulties that arise from these changes to learning.
This document lists 30 tools for conducting training in the cloud in 20 minutes or less. It includes tools for scheduling sessions, curriculum development like Wikis and mind maps, resource sharing through blogs and file storage, communication via Twitter and chat services, live and archived class spaces, and evaluation using polling and surveys. Many of the tools listed are provided by Google and Zoho.
The document discusses innovation and provides quotes and images related to different types of innovation. It discusses efficiency innovation, evolutionary innovation, and revolutionary innovation. Management approaches that support innovation are discussed, such as setting strategies, encouraging risk-taking, and leading by example. Innovation is described as an iterative, messy process driven by curiosity. The last slides emphasize that innovation starts with imagination and is a culture that organizations should support.
This document lists various ways that content from Second Life could potentially be reused or represented in 2D formats, including as digital wallpaper, an analog book, magazine, newspaper, comic, clip art, credit card, namecard, sticker, flyer, ticket, poster, directional board, t-shirt, outside signage, and a 2D cube. It provides examples of each type of 2D format through links to Flickr photos and requests contact via email for more information.
This document contains information about a proposed technique called "Cryptonomicon Psychedelic and Fractalic Digital Drawing". The technique uses machine learning with TensorFlow and AzureML to generate fractal-like images based on digital photos of a physical space. The machine learning models are trained on principles of fractal geometry to produce images that exhibit quasi-self-similarity. The raw machine learning output is then further edited using image editing software to produce the final artworks.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
How to Fix the Import Error in the Odoo 17Celine George
An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
