2012 is the European year for active ageing. Over the next few decades, elderly people will continue to grow in number and continue to age. Our society must succeed in the challenge of healthy ageing. How? By keeping elderly people physically and mentally active for as long as possible thanks, in particular, to a suitable, high quality diet. These are the reasons for which the Louis Bonduelle Foundation develops activities for the elderly through a partnership with the National federation for rural retirement homes (MARPA).
The best recipes for our grandparents
A book of gourmet recipes adapted to seniors
This book takes into account the culinary traditions of each partner country and offers practical tools for adopting a “healthy and enjoyable” diet that is adapted to seniors. It includes dietary advice, tips on how to prevent food waste, and sustainable eating guidance that can be used on a daily basis by seniors and their carers to promote good health, thereby ensuring that older people can remain in their own homes.
Thanks to recipes that are accessible to all, this project meets a social inclusion objective by ensuring that everyone has access to health through food. We would also like to highlight the unifying potential of food by proposing recipes that can be prepared alone or with others (carers, family, spouse) in order to promote connection between carers and their loved ones, as well as intergenerational bonds and diversity in the kitchen.
The recipe book complements the approach taken in the Carers’ Guide by providing concrete tools and advice to informal carers to help them support their loved ones in planning, preparing and/or eating their meals.
Presentation hold by Anselme Bakudila Mbuta, Slow Food Studies Centre, Italy, at the Brussels Briefing ‘Geography of food: reconnecting with origin in the food system’, organized by CTA on 15th May 2013.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

'NATURAL ART AND FLAVOURS' OPERATION
IN YOUR REGION!
The Louis Bonduelle Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its new field
operation aimed at the elderly, 'Natural Art and Flavours, 'Pleasure' workshops to stimulate
the imagination', in partnership with the French National Federation for Rural Retirement
Homes (MARPA). Furthermore, the operation concerns the whole of France! 'Natural Art and
Flavours' is coming to your region. Residents of the rural retirement home of XXXX will
have the opportunity to come together and enjoy two original workshops involving
vegetables and the plant world. These workshops will enable residents to enjoy each
other's company and give free rein to their imagination.
Among other things, participants will be able to prepare tasty mini-pastries, express themselves
through the creation of vegetable compositions and, while
wearing a blindfold, try to guess which types of food are
being presented. Through two simple and enjoyable
workshops, 'natural art' and cooking workshops, residents
of MARPA homes, each of which does not have more than
24 residents, are invited to rediscover a selection of
flavours. A nutritious diet giving fruit, vegetables and protein
pride of place is an important part of ageing well.
Laura Leveque/MARPA/Louis Bonduelle Foundation
As eating is a social activity, these workshops help build and foster relations between residents
and the home's team of employees. They can even involve other generations and thereby foster
intergenerational relations. Furthermore, any physical or artistic activity engages both the mind and
the senses and thereby enhances the residents' feeling of enjoyment and well-being.
Piloted in three MARPA homes, the project will be rolled out across the country in June. The Louis
Bonduelle Foundation, which has acquired a degree of expertise in field operations regarding
nutrition and eating habits since it was established in 2004, has created a number of kits for
France's 162 MARPA homes. These kits, which are made up of fact sheets, in particular, will
enable MARPA employees to take control of the activities and lead them independently.
