National Responsibility for Social Justice There is ongoing debate about the responsibility of wealthy nations to remedy social injustice around the globe. Those who argue against offering aid to combat social injustice may point to various failed initiatives as proof that the effort is not worthwhile. Haiti, for instance, represents a bold example of a costly and less than effective humanitarian aid mission. Despite millions of dollars contributed for Haiti in the wake of the 2010 earthquake, there is little evidence that the aid helped the country to recover efficiently. However, there are moral issues concerning the need to protect and defend the privileges and freedoms that define basic human rights. Is the answer for wealthy nations to respond to any and all situations where basic human rights are compromised, or should there be a limit established based on the type or severity of the social injustice? According to the course text chapter four,
Introduction to human services: Through the eyes of practice settings,
before discussing social advocacy efforts on a macro level (really any level), it is essential to identify most targeted populations or vulnerable (Martin, 2018). One of the most historically targeted populations is the ethnic minority of the black race. The cruelty and brutality used to control African Americans as they were forced in transit and lived shackled as slaves are horrific. The race is oppressed by stock stories and a social caste system that, in essence is for the white man - by the man. Sadly, instead of seeing power in unity it is seen in color, class, and cash.
Decades of Destruction but Centuries of Chaos
Over centuries of civil rights movements initiated by Reverend Jesse Jackson, Malcolm X, Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, black Americans remain one of the least privileged, lowest-earning, socially isolated races the United States. Movements such as BLM or Black Lives Matter has stood firm in the past decade to bring awareness to the oppression and segregation still thriving in their communities. Speaking up, standing against, campaigning, and community awareness and involvement drive these concerns to the public. One example is the YWCA, who is proactive in reaching out and advocating for minorities to strive for "civic engagement" to end racial injustice (YWCA, 2020). Becoming involved in respected organizations strengthens the chances for change. The more voices are heard - the more minds begin to open and evidence that color does not define content of character is apparent. BLM, YWCA, and many more keep their mission running with community support and funding so as people continue to sponsor and support causes, decades to come will leave deeper imprints.
Maslow's Hierarchy
The tip of the hierarchy Maslow presented is self-actualization, which can be construed as truth. Truth comes in genuine intention, not deceptive exploitation; sponsors and charities are guilty of this exploitation; some known to ordinary households include Nike and Adidas in their 'sneaker culture' dating to the Globetrotters and like corporations who stand to profit high margins of wealth in exploiting skin color talent rather than the content of character.
Acknowledging Necessity in Black American Livelihood

Some organizations provide relief aid such as food, shelter, and medical services. Others provide developmental aid such as the technology and training needed to create self-sustaining communities. With a large number of organizations working internationally, confusion, disorganization, and even fraud may occur. How should a hospital go about increasing its upfront collections from self- pay patients? California's Sutter Health has found an effective way to accomplish this goal.
We all know the mantra, "no margin, no mission." One increasingly important strategy for optimizing margins in this time of high- deductible health plans and higher copayments is to collect more cash from patients, including self- pay patients.
Much has been made of the fact that nearly 47 million Americans are uninsured, but it's an erroneous assumption that none of these people can afford to pay for their health care. More than 80 percent of uninsured people come from working families, and many may have the resources to pay for some or all of their health care- if only someone would ask them to.
That "someone" is the patient financial services (PFS) staff member. To frame the question in a way that will elicit the most positive response, PFS staff need complete, accurate, and timely information and the appropriate skills- and the confidence to use them. These needs apply especially to registration staff because the best time to collect payment for services is before those services are provided.
Registration staff, however, typically are unaccustomed to asking for money. It is therefore important that the transfer of this responsibility from the back end- the central business office and collectors- to these front-end staff be managed thoughtfully and in a well-organized manner that takes into account the needs of all PFS staff.
The Sutter Health Approach
Sutter Health, one of Northern California's largest providers, is committed to giving its PFS staff on both the front and back ends the tools they need to improve patient collections and thus the system's bottom line. Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.

- 1. National Responsibility for Social Justice There is ongoing debate about the responsibility of wealthy nations to remedy social injustice around the globe. Those who argue against offering aid to combat social injustice may point to various failed initiatives as proof that the effort is not worthwhile. Haiti, for instance, represents a bold example of a costly and less than effective humanitarian aid mission. Despite millions of dollars contributed for Haiti in the wake of the 2010 earthquake, there is little evidence that the aid helped the country to recover efficiently. However, there are moral issues concerning the need to protect and defend the privileges and freedoms that define basic human rights. Is the answer for wealthy nations to respond to any and all situations where basic human rights are compromised, or should there be a limit established based on the type or severity of the social injustice? To prepare for this Discussion : Review the article, "World Poverty and Human Rights." Consider theories of how nations cause and maintain poverty. Think about reasons why nations may be responsible for providing solutions to poverty. Review the article, "Do We Owe the Global Poor Assistance or Rectification? Response to World Poverty and Human Rights." Consider the argument that nations help each other and may not be responsible for global social injustice. Review the article, "The Humanitarian Illusion." Reflect on motives for providing aid.
- 2. Consider whether it is a moral responsibility for richer nations to help poorer nations. With these thoughts in mind : Post by Thursday 2/15/18 a 500-word response regarding your thoughts about whether or not it is a moral responsibility for richer nations to help poorer nations, and explain why.
