Introduction:
This theme explores the ‘as is’ side of the ‘as is and to be’
views of project planning.
Understanding the current state is essential when scoping work
needed (the gap) to achieve the
desired project outcomes.

Week 1 Workshop
Activity - Group stand-up meeting
Each week groups will start the workshop with a stand-up
meeting (although the idea is for the
meeting to be daily within the Agile team, here the groups will
discuss the week. The time for this
meeting will be time boxed to 15 minutes.
The group stands in a circle (standing encourages the meeting to
be short) and each member gives a
quick update of their contribution to the project for the previous
day, what they plan to do today
and any issues that may impact them getting the work completed
today.
For the first stand-up meeting do it as a class. In future
workshops, the stand-up meetings can be
broken into groups.
Each member very briefly (1-2 minutes) provides the following
information relating to this unit:
1. Name (Not needed when project team is established)
2. What you accomplished for the unit in the last week?
3. What do you intend to accomplish for the unit this week?
4. Are there any impediments to accomplishing what you need
to this week?

This activity will requires you to become familiar with the

Talent Triangle.

that has been advertised that you would like to apply for. Map

Activity – iChange
In this activity, requires you to complete an online introductory
course on social innovation. It will
take up to two hours, longer if you decide to do some of the
challenges embedded. If you do not
finish this activity during the workshop, you can complete it in
your own time.
Students should complete the iCHANGE introductory course
through their own student login. This
will enable the completion of the course to be included on your
study record.
The course includes videos (if you want to watch these in the
workshop time ensure you bring
headphones). No headphones – no worries, each section
provides a script.

Group Activity: Form Project Teams
Form your project teams, these should be no more than four
people. You will work with these
people on the group assessments throughout the unit.
Note down the team’s details and discuss the availability of
meeting each other once you start
working on the project.

Group Activity: The social issue
Consider the social issue for the current term. You can find
information on the social issue on
Moodle. In your project teams discuss the following questions,
taking notes of the discussion for
later reference.
Narrow your focus to a specific part of the social issue and
explain this in terms of a problem or
opportunity statement.
Term 1, 2020 – the social issue is the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs)

Consider a single SDG that the majority of the team is
interested in. Each project team must choose
one of the goals to align their project on.
Only one team will be able to align their project to a single
SDG. Once that team has posted on the
forum that they will be working on that SDG it will no longer
be an option for other teams.
Other considerations:
This will be the area that your project must align to.
Each member of the team must work on a proposal for a project
in this area – each proposal must
be a substantially different project.
Proposals must not be research projects or based on
homelessness (previous terms social issue.
Once you have decided on the SDG that your team wants to
work, check the forum post to ensure it
is still available. If it is available, to secure that SDG, reply to
the forum post with the following
information:
• The SDG your team will work on,
• what campus and workshop you are in,
• the names and student numbers of the project team.
Once you have posted, you will not be able to change your
option.

The time for this meeting will be time boxed to 15 minutes. The group stands in a circle (standing encourages the meeting to be short) and each member gives a quick update of their contribution to the project for the previous day, what they plan to do today and any issues that may impact them getting the work completed today. For the first stand-up meeting do it as a class. In future
  • 34. workshops, the stand-up meetings can be broken into groups. Each member very briefly (1-2 minutes) provides the following information relating to this unit: 1. Name 2. What you accomplished for the unit in the last week? 3. What do you intend to accomplish for the unit this week? 4. Are there any impediments to accomplishing what you need to this week? Activity – iChange In this activity, requires you to complete an online introductory course on social innovation. It will take up to two hours, longer if you decide to do some of the challenges embedded. If you do not finish this activity during the workshop, you can complete it in your own time. Students should complete the iCHANGE introductory course through their own student login. This will enable the completion of the course to be included on your study record. The course includes videos (if you want to watch these in the workshop time ensure you bring headphones). No headphones – no worries, each section provides a script. You will work with these people on the group assessments throughout the unit. Note down the team’s details and discuss the availability of meeting each other once you start working on the project. Term 1, 2020 – the social issue is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/?menu=1300 Consider a single SDG that the majority of the team is interested in. Each project team must choose one of the goals to align their project on. Only one team will be able to align their project to a single SDG. Once that team has posted on the forum that they will be working on that SDG it will no longer be an option for other teams. Other considerations: This will be the area that your project must align to. Each member of the team must work on a proposal for a project in this area – each proposal must be a substantially different project. Proposals must not be research projects or based on homelessness (previous terms social issue. Once you have decided on the SDG that your team wants to work, check the forum post to ensure it is still available. If it is available, to secure that SDG, reply to the forum post with the following information:
