Why Social Media is a Waste of Time & Money versus SEOnevercoldcallagain
SEO - Search Engine Optimization - consistently generates a dramatically higher return on investment than Social Media. Social Media has turned out to be all hype, the "bubble" of the early 21st Century. Learn in this presentation, backed up by lots of facts, statistics, and case studies, about why Social Media isn't worth your time or money, and in which marketing channels you should spend those dollars instead.

In today’s globalized world brands need to know how to have a strong centralized global brand and how to adapt the brand to local markets. Social media can help - but there’s a lot to take into consideration when creating a carefully crafted global-to-local strategy for social.
3 Steps to Success with Digital MarketingJeff Bullas
In a digital universe of 500 million plus websites, 150 million blogs and 200 billion display ads every 90 days, the challenge for any business is to cut through all the clutter and noise. So how do we change our thinking, adapt, be found online and play to win in a digital and increasingly global economy?
The number one cause of startup death is premature scaling. In this session, we talk about the importance of customer validation and timing in your go-to-market strategy. The most effective growth strategy for your startup will depend on the market in which you operate and the stage of your business, and knowing which lever for growth you can pull. We’ll cover all this and more in Scaling Your Startup.

How to develop, create and distribute killer content that engages and convertsStickyeyes
In 1996, Bill Gates published his famous ‘content is king’ essay predicting the rise in importance of content marketing. Fast forward nearly 20 years and, whilst there is no disputing the power of content to attract and retain customers, it’s become more challenging than ever to ensure your brand messages cut through the noise.
Not only is time required to develop, create and distribute content from already overstretched teams but, there are also the logistical challenges of ensuring integration across all marketing channels. It’s easy to understand why so many brands fail to maximise their investment and generate irrelevant content ‘just because everyone else is’.
But, with increasing evidence that your content marketing strategy has a direct influence over your online performance what key considerations should you have in place for creating killer content?

What Social Media Networks Should Your Brand Be On?Falcon.io
Businesses need social media in order to stay relevant and visible to prospects and customers. But, just how much is too much when it comes to their social media presence? The truth is, more isn’t always better for effective marketing. Being selective about which social media networks a brand is on, is far better than over-saturating them all. Join us live as we discuss how to selectively choose social media networks for brands, and how this results in a more efficient marketing strategy.
In this webinar we'll dive into:
- The differentiation of audiences across platforms
- Distinguishing content between platforms when crossposting
- Niche social media networks to consider
We hosted a Meet & Greet at The Data School HQ last night. This is the presentation we shared with the prospective consultants to let them know what the program is all about.

Dear Data Two: The Analog Story of Two Data Viz Guys Following in Artists' Fo...Andy Kriebel
When Giorgia Lupi and Stefanie Posavec began the “Dear Data” project, they had no idea of the impact their data postcards would have. Andy Kriebel and Jeffrey Shaffer, two data visualization experts who teach best practices, decided to follow these amazing artists week-by-week. Of course, two Tableau Zen Masters can’t help but use Tableau along the way. In this talk, Andy & Jeff explain their story, explore the results of this journey, see how Tableau is helping them discover stories and learn how this project has helped them think more creatively and learn about themselves.
From Good to Great – Tips for Becoming a Great Data AnalystAndy Kriebel
Data is everywhere. But unless you have the skills to make sense of the data, then it’s merely a pile of numbers that take up space on your hard drive. To truly become great with data takes commitment, focus, passion, and specialized set of skills. In this presentation, Andy Kriebel provided tips that helped him learn about data visualisation, how he applied that to his work and life, and how you can get to the next level. Andy talked about how this passion led to the creation of the first “Data School” for learning Tableau and Alteryx, what they’re doing at the Data School, how these people will become the next generation of great data analysts, and what you can learn from their experience.

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.
Enhanced Enterprise Intelligence with your personal AI Data Copilot.pdfGetInData
Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.
Why do we need yet another (open-source ) Copilot?
How can we build one?

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

At facebook we dog-food all our products, groups being one of them. We have a internal group for everything we do – for our products, teams, new launches, gyp even for our cafes posting the food options in diff cafes. We have built a very active tableau user community on facebook. Here we post any important updates regarding our database, servers, upgrades, and other maintenance issues. This is the forum where users come and ask any questions they have. We encourage all our users to avoid any 1-1 interaction with one of us, so that the whole community can benefit from their questions. We post any inetrresting visualziation, articles and workbooks we come across on this forum.
Built a internal community
Although Tableau is a very user-intutive tool, we do offer regular introductory and advanced training sessions. As we are still nurturing our tableau community internally, these sessions have turned out to be immensely helpful.
Every alternate sessions we cover advanced topics on database connections, maps, table caclualation etc
Apart from doing such internal sessions, we do engage with industry experts outside as well and do request to come give a talk or host an informal webex session.
* Showcase any dashboards served or re-imagined in the last 2 weeks – Quick demos to showcase the story and technology
* Recipes – Tips and Tricks? Solve a big problem? Show it off
* News and Events – Something interesting happen in the world outside of Facebook? Let’s hear about it
The first class is anticipated to be available October 2015.
The main focus of the training will be Tableau for data visualization and analysis & Alteryx for data preparation and complex ETL. But we’re also going to teach them a lot of other technical and soft skills.
Every Friday, during happy hour…
…each student will present their project for the week. Over the course of the training, they will give between 16-20 presentations.
And the presentations will be live streamed when possible.
They’ll be writing daily diaries and creating their portfolios.
