This document contains an induction assessment for a student. It includes a self-assessment of the student's skills in areas like Mac computers, Photoshop, InDesign, video editing and cameras. The student rates their skills from 1 to 10. It then provides two assignments for the student - a 500 word essay analyzing representation of age and social class in a film clip, and creating a front page for a college magazine in Photoshop. The student provides their completed essay and magazine front page in the document.

it. However, I’m not a person who is proficient

Final Cut Have been used iMovie once before, but can’t
remember the clearly process.

function of this camera, and can’t use it takes
a picture better than on my phone.

Assignment 1: Write a 500 written analysis of representation of age and social
class. You must make reference to the micro areas of mise en scene and
camera, using appropriate terminology.

As the beginning of the film clip, there is a deep focus that shows four
characters in different positions, and two of them are rapping, which is a diegetic
synchronous sound. There is a jump cut during rapping. Next shot display that
DJ Beats and MC Grindah are singing rap in a room. There is a medium shot
shows that DJ Beats is playing players, and behind him is lots of cartons, then is

a close up of his hands when he controls the equipment, and the camera uses a
zoom out after that. After that, MC Grindah has been showed by a medium close
up, then the shot back to DJ Beats again as a shot reverse shot. From this frame
I indicate that be a DJ or rapper are their hobby or job. It is likely that they do
not have enough money, because the room is seems for storing, so the rent will
be cheaper compared with others.
Next frame use a voice over that ask DJ
Beats a question, then he answers it by the
direct mode address to the audience, which
use a medium shot.
When MC Grindah opened the door, the
camera is using a handhold to follow
him. This frame point out that they living
in a flat, and from characters’ accent, It
can be defined that this story is setting
in London. Next, there is a two shot and use direct mode address of DJ Beats
and MC Grindah with a low angle. Grindah try to make a decision that finds a
godfather for his daughter.
After that, there is a medium shot of Mache
and a zoom in shows the sketch of her T-
shirt design for Angle’s christening. From
her monologue, she said that she did GCSE
Art, which means most of characters are
uneducated. There is a pan shot when Mache enters the door, which she find a
man called Chabuddy with foreign accent. From the dialogue between them,
Mache wants to find a cheaper workshop that help her print the T-shirt out, and
use a point of view when she shows her sketch to
Chabuddy. Then is an establishing shot of a flat with a
non-diegetic asynchronous music on the background.
Grindah and Beats are playing music, and uses a medium
shot shows Decoy is smoking. It uses a shot reverse shot

and a zoom in of Beats when they’re rapping. Low-key lighting and blurring
frame (smog from people smoking) give an atmosphere of their nightlife, and
this frame shows they take drugs.
Next, there is a sound bridge for transition. From Beats
listens to Grindah and helps him open the car door, we
know that Grindah is the leader.
When Mache shows Grindah the dress, which she picked
for Angle, it is a two shot and uses dialogue. She said“... she could reuse it late
during her life, a good couple of size is bigger, maybe 18 months or 2 years, she
can do it like a bridesmaid dress.” This indicates that they are lower class; they
do not have money to buy Angle new clothes frequently, and that dress is quite
new and sparkling, it can be seen that they are value Angle’s christening. There
is a tilt when godfather put a card on each seat. When Mache asks the godfather
about weddings and from the monologue of Grindah, it is likely that they do not
hold a weeding. One of the reason can be the expenditure is too much. If they
spend the money, their life will be under pressure. It also uses continuity editing
that start with a eye line match between godfather and Mache, then Grindah
walking though them and godfather tells Grindah that his friend, Steve, has
been slept there overnight. This point out
Steve is homeless. When everybody read the
sheet together, there is a tilt pan shot, and
then a medium shot of Grindah and Miche,
the is a medium shot shows Chabuddy,
Steve; Chabuddy said nothing and Steve was
quick looed the sheet, then he just looked at
others, and his facial expression was confuse. He just followed what other
people said, so it seems like that they are an illiteracy, as I said previous, they
are uneducated.

In Steve’s monologue, he said “I take more drugs to avoid come down as much
as possible”, so these people can’t live without drugs; they do not use formal
language, and sometimes their behavior are rude, such as interrupt the
godfather when they pray which used a pan shot. All of these techniques show a
story of lower class that true to life.
Assignment 2:
Task 1: Prepare flat plans for a new college magazine, to include a front page
and contents page.
Task 2: Create the front page of the magazine using Photoshop and a
downloaded font from DaFont.com.
