This document discusses the influences on the author's ideas for a horror film opening title sequence. It notes how title sequences from films like Nightmare on Elm Street and Seven intrigued the author with their effective use of mise-en-scene, camera work, sound, and colors to set a mood without revealing the full plot. Observing techniques in crime mysteries on TV also helped with storytelling ideas. The author aims to incorporate low, ominous music; varied shots from different angles; and dark colors in line with horror conventions for their opening sequence depicting a girl running and screaming in a dark forest while being chased by an unknown figure.

1. My Ideas and Inspiration
Although I don't watch horror movies, watching the opening
title sequences and some rare scenes in other movies and
TV programmes have influenced me in my ideas.

2. Mise-en-scene
Nightmare on Elm Street opening really intrigued
me because we were introduced to a victim, a
villain and a setting straight away but it still didn't
give away the plot because they made it a dream.
Additionally Seven's opening title sequence was very
interesting with the childlike writing and the
jittering close up images and titles.

3. Storytelling
Watching crime mysteries on TV also help with
creating a story behind the screen, for example why
a murderer would kill people and how.
It helps thinking of ideas for behind the opening and
why what happens, happens.

4. Sound
A major code and convention for horror movies is
having quite a low, instrumental soundscape so we
would have that in the background of titles.
For this I liked the sinister sounding music in The
Conjuring, this was very low and mysterious that
already makes the viewer on the edge of their seat.

5. Camera angles and movement
I liked the birds eye view from The Shining, this didn't give
any of the story away and just showed the car driving there.
I would want to incorporate that with some of the angles
shown in Seven and Nightmare on Elm Street, because the
close ups in Seven were very effective and the variation of
shots of the actual characters in Nightmare on Elm Street
were also very engaging.

6. Colours
This is another code and convention for
horror movies is having dark colours and
scenes, I like this and would use it in my
film.

7. Brief overview
I like our group initial ideas and to me this would be the
brief:
 A girl is running through a forest
 It's late at night
 Someone is following, we don't know who
 They catch up
 Girl is caught and screams
