28. Thisprojectincludesadeeptunnel15-Kmroutewith13stationswhichextendsfromtheendofTabarsiBoulevardinnorth
toFakouriBoulevardinsouthofMashhadasaMetroLine.Muchoftherouteisconstructedinundergroundanddrillingof
this section was done by 2 tunnel digging machine called the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) in one of the busiest
corridorsofthecity.
The basic design studies for Mashhad metro line 2 was accomplished by joint effort of project's main local consultant
"Pajoohesh" and French consultant "Systra". Twelve groups of qualified engineering consultants assisted the main
consultant in preparation of basic studies such as topographical and geotechnical studies, civil design, traffic studies,
urbanutilitytracing,trackdesign,rollingstockfunctionalspecification,bio-ecoandvalueengineering.
Thepreliminarydesignofline2hasbeencarriedoutandacallforinternationaltender(E.P.C)waslaunchedandalocal
GeneralContractor(GE)wasappointed.
Currently tunnel construction by TBMs is finished. The contract for building rolling stock is signed and the first delivery of
rollingtockwillbedueearly2016.

After lunching Line 1, Mashhad became the second city of Iran which entered railway transportation system
In February 2nd, The 4.5 Km extension of Line 1 with 2 stations (including HashemiNezhad international Airport) Was
lunched and Mashhad became the first Iranian city which connect it’s railway lines to it’s Airport.
