Located at the river Isar, Munich is renowned for its beautiful architecture and tradition
despite most of it being damaged during World War II.
Munich’s cultural scene is very impressive and is all practically within walking distance:
from the Alte Pinakothek which houses masterpieces from between the 14th and 18th
centuries, tot Kartoffelmuseum which caters to the artistic aspects of the potato, there
is a museum for everyone.
Munich is the football capital of Germany, with Bayern Munich the most successful
team in Bundesliga history who allow you to take tours of their stadium, the Allianz
Arena.
Getting around Munich couldn’t be easier but if you don’t want to travel on foot, the
public transport system only has one ticket system so you can use all modes of
transportation on the same ticket.

Nymphenburg Palace: A beautiful baroque palace, Nymphenburg Palace, can be explored to see how the
court in Bavaria used to live. It is surrounded by impressive gardens with fountains that have operated for

Munich Residenz: The former royal place of the Bavarian monarchs is at the very centre of Munich. You are
able to take tours of the Munich Residenz and its treasury to witness history.
Deutsches Museum: The Deutsches Museum is the world’s largest museum of science and technology has
approximately 1.5 million visitors per year, and you could be one of them.
Englischer Garten: A beautiful 900-acre public park, the Englischer Garten is famous for its shaded
pathways, brooks and the outdoor beer garden located by the Chinese Tower.
Neuschwanstein: When you imagine a fairy-tale castle think of Neuschwanstein! Originally built to hide a shy
king away from his public, this private retreat is now a fantastic attraction.
4. WEATHER
Munich has unpredictable weather, especially in the winter due to the cities
proximity to the Alps. Munich tends to experience high rainfall throughout the
year.
Summer lasts from May until August and average high temperatures remain at
25°C. If you are planning on visiting in the summer, July is the warmest and
sunniest month of the year.
In winter temperatures fall dramatically in December and January is considered
the coldest month of the year, as well as the wettest.
Tourism starts to increase again in spring as the daylight hour’s increase and the
temperatures are slowly rising.
5. CLOTHING
With the temperamental weather it is advisable to check the forecast
and often have a set of waterproofs on hand for surprise downpours.
Winter coats, scarves and gloves are advisable for the winter months.
With weather so unpredictable during the summer, it is advisory that you
bring layers that can be easily added or removed.
Feel free to join in with the traditional Dirndl dress and lederhosen, as
many people in Munich where them on everyday occasions to go to
beer gardens.
