1 | INTRODUCTION
Violence against nurses in their workplace is a major global
problem that has received increased attention in recent years.1
Approximately 25% of registered nurses report being physi-
cally assaulted by a patient or family member, while over 50%
reported exposure to verbal abuse or bullying.2 Nurses, who
are primarily responsible for providing life- saving care to pa-
tients are victimized at a significantly higher rate than other
health- care professionals,3 and it is estimated that workplace
violence causes 17.2% of nurses to leave their job every year.4
In the United States, workplace violence increased by
23% to become the second most common fatal event in
2016,5 accounting for 1.7 million nonfatal assaults and 900
workplace homicides each year.6 In addition, there has been
an increase in workplace violence in US hospitals, increasing
from 2 events per 100 beds in 2012 to 2.8 events per 100 beds
in 2015.5 In 2016, hospitals and health- care facilities invested
$1.1 billion in security and training to prevent violence and
had to spend $429 million on insurance, staffing, and medical
care due to workplace violence.7
The absence of a universal definition for workplace vi-
olence within health- care settings and the ambiguity about
what constitutes a violent event currently compromise re-
search on the prevalence and magnitude of this phenomenon.
Furthermore, varying definitions and unclear criteria may
lead to nurses failing to identify their experience as a form of
workplace violence, which prevents it from being reported.
Applying the concept analysis method to better under-
stand the violence to which nursing staff are subjected in the
workplace will demystify the factors at play, with the under-
lying intention of preventing such violence. Using concept
analysis to address the theoretical background to such vio-
lence will aid the development of an operational definition

Needs Statement:
The lack of an adolescent’s shelter to cater for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual [LGBT] adolescents has become an underpinning problem which direly needs to be addressed with the development of a shelter facility for these group. The shelter also ought to incorporate programs that facilitate the rehabilitation of these adolescents in the center and to mentor them on the importance of education and career development. This kind of project is dedicated to efforts that reduce social inequality through demonstrable projects. There are various factors that make this project a top priority, including the target group being adolescents aged between thirteen and eighteen years old, besides being a minority adolescents group that can reform and complete their education and go to become more productive in the society.
Moreover, housing is a basic human need and also a place one can rest to reminisce on their personal life. Cochran, Stewart, Ginzler, and Cauce (2012) argue that homeless bisexual, lesbian, gay, transsexual, besides questioning adolescents’ aged between thirteen and eighteen years old, face the lack of housing access either because they are kicked out of their parental homes, or they cannot comprehend the criticism by their relatives and caregivers for their sexual orientation. Following Durso and Gates (2012) the vulnerability of these adolescents is further worsened as they are presented to brutal street situations whereby they are high possibilities of being assaulted physically, victimized, sexually assaulted, mugged, and at worse being murdered. Besides, the freedom they have on the streets has a high inclination towards compelling them to indulge in other unsafe criminal activities, including, drug abuse, robbery, and prostitution.
Keuroghlian, Shtasel, and Bassuk (2014) emphasize that by bypassing such a conspicuous feature within the social work system core principles, besides the strengths and needs of these adolescents are far from being satisfactorily addressed. Moreover, Tyler, Whitbeck, Hoyt, and Cauce (2004) pinpoint that these adolescents represent characters from all different genders and ethnicities. Hence, those who come from an ethnic minority are even at a higher risk of being exposed to numerous social ills, since they endeavor to even find acceptance within their individual communities. These adolescents have twenty-five percent suicide attempt rate as they encounter extra pressures, barriers, and hurdles towards understanding and acceptance. This paper1 was designed to accompany the Model Policy on
Social Media established by the IACP National Law Enforcement
Policy Center. This paper provides essential background materi-
al and supporting documentation to impart greater understand-
ing of the developmental philosophy and implementation
requirements for the model policy. This material will be of value

From 2002-2004, the UK government piloted the Expert Patient Programme of self-management training courses for patients with long-term conditions, and subsequently rolled the model out nationwide (I. Greener, 2008). Since it’s deployment, however, recent trends have shown growing public interest in engaging with the self-care of health outside of traditional NHS services (Bupa, 2012), and that technological disrupters such as social networks and apps have instead created a more immediate and accessible format in giving patients a forum to share feedback, experiences and learn from other patients on how to manage their own conditions (Corrie & Finch, 2015). While extensive studies have been made of patient-oriented social network platforms like PatientsLikeMe.com (Whitmore & Kempner, 2012; Tempini, 2014) - little is known about how patients informally create and share text-based and visual knowledge with each other via social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. This paper contributes to the literature by critically examining patient behavior on these two platforms via analysis of the use of patient formulated hashtags linked to chronic autoimmune diseases and shared images used to represent chronic disease through the practices of daily self-care. I discuss how this use of mobile technology brings a new meaning to Foucault’s notion of ‘technologies of the self’, and how this adds to the reconfiguration of ‘expertise’ in matters of health and illness in general and the management of chronic illness in particular (Rose 2007). In the 21st Century it seems that patients are becoming more engaged in the formation of new biomedical subjectivity. Individuals informally use smartphones and more to perform the narration and technique of the biosocial self and become experts in the micro-constituents of factors needed for the self-care of their specific autoimmune/genetic illness. To this end, I also discuss how general healthy eating terms like #cleaneating have been appropriated by chronic illness communities with a focus on the biosocial - in the process of informally self-quantifying their experience of long-term conditions.

1 | INTRODUCTION
Violence against nurses in their workplace is a major global
problem that has received increased attention in recent years.1
Approximately 25% of registered nurses report being physi-
cally assaulted by a patient or family member, while over 50%
reported exposure to verbal abuse or bullying.2 Nurses, who
are primarily responsible for providing life- saving care to pa-
tients are victimized at a significantly higher rate than other
health- care professionals,3 and it is estimated that workplace
violence causes 17.2% of nurses to leave their job every year.4
In the United States, workplace violence increased by
23% to become the second most common fatal event in
2016,5 accounting for 1.7 million nonfatal assaults and 900
workplace homicides each year.6 In addition, there has been
an increase in workplace violence in US hospitals, increasing
from 2 events per 100 beds in 2012 to 2.8 events per 100 beds
in 2015.5 In 2016, hospitals and health- care facilities invested
$1.1 billion in security and training to prevent violence and
had to spend $429 million on insurance, staffing, and medical
care due to workplace violence.7
The absence of a universal definition for workplace vi-
olence within health- care settings and the ambiguity about
what constitutes a violent event currently compromise re-
search on the prevalence and magnitude of this phenomenon.
Furthermore, varying definitions and unclear criteria may
lead to nurses failing to identify their experience as a form of
workplace violence, which prevents it from being reported.
Applying the concept analysis method to better under-
stand the violence to which nursing staff are subjected in the
workplace will demystify the factors at play, with the under-
lying intention of preventing such violence. Using concept
analysis to address the theoretical background to such vio-
lence will aid the development of an operational definition

Introduction
Social problem defines notable behavior condition, presenting negative outcomes and consequences to a significant number of people, and is recognized as a problem that requires redress for an effective solution (Chambers and Bonk, 2013). As a community health expert and professional a consideration of a social problem are critical to accommodating identification, assessment, management, and control towards a notable goal of possessing positive implications for the overall population. Substance and drug abuse is one notable social problem with negative implications and consequences for a significant number of individuals in a community. According to the authors, there is significant National survey data that describes the impacts of substance and drug abuse in the USA (McLellan, 2017). In this case, there is specific attention to drug abuse among adolescents in California State, accommodating effective data for assessment to provide the critical framework in addressing the unmet community needs in managing drug abuse among youths. According to California Health Care Almanac, there is an increasing number of young with substance abuse and mental disorder. Similarly, key findings indicate that there is a serious emotional disturbance among youth and adolescents due to substance-related problems with one in eight teens reporting a major depressive episode in 2014–2015, up from one in 11 in 2011–2012. Similarly, 9% of adolescents of age between 12 and 17 reported the use of a substance such as alcohol (California Health Care Almanac, 2018). Admittedly, substance and drug abuse among youths and adolescents in California is an issue tha.

Abstract
Perceived discrimination in medical settings remains prevalent within the U.S. health care
system. However, the details of these experiences and their associations with perceived
quality of care are not well understood. Our study assessed multiple measures of perceived
racial/ethnic discrimination in medical settings and investigated the locations and purported
perpetrators of the discriminatory experiences within a population-based sample of 1,543
Black, White, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Other adults. We used logistic regression to esti-
mate associations between perceived discrimination in the medical setting and three quality
of care indicators. Overall, 40% of the sample reported one or more types of perceived dis-
crimination in a medical setting, with significant differences by race/ethnicity. Discrimination
was perceived across health settings and from a variety of providers and staff. In adjusted
logistic regression models, individuals reporting discrimination had more than twice the
odds of reporting fair or poor quality of care (OR = 2.4 [95% CI: 1.4–4.3]). In addition, per-
ceived discrimination in medical settings was significantly associated with report of not hav-
ing enough time with the physician and not being as involved in decision-making as desired.
These findings expand our understanding of perceived discriminatory experiences in health
care and the consequences of it for patients, providers, and health care systems. This infor-
mation is essential for identifying future provider interventions and improving the training of
health care professionals.
Introduction
Racial and ethnic disparities in access to, and quality of, health care are pervasive and contrib-
ute to the persistent negative health outcomes seen among communities of color [1–7]. Per-
ceived discrimination may underlie both disparities in health care and health outcomes [8,9].
In particular, research is needed to better understand racial and ethnic discrimination in the
health care setting, which likely impacts health care perceptions and outcomes [10–13].

The lack of an adolescent’s shelter to cater for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual [LGBT] adolescents has become an underpinning problem which direly needs to be addressed with the development of a shelter facility for these group. The shelter also ought to incorporate programs that facilitate the rehabilitation of these adolescents in the center and to mentor them on the importance of education and career development. This kind of project is dedicated to efforts that reduce social inequality through demonstrable projects. There are various factors that make this project a top priority, including the target group being adolescents aged between thirteen and eighteen years old, besides being a minority adolescents group that can reform and complete their education and go to become more productive in the society.
Moreover, housing is a basic human need and also a place one can rest to reminisce on their personal life. Cochran, Stewart, Ginzler, and Cauce (2012) argue that homeless bisexual, lesbian, gay, transsexual, besides questioning adolescents’ aged between thirteen and eighteen years old, face the lack of housing access either because they are kicked out of their parental homes, or they cannot comprehend the criticism by their relatives and caregivers for their sexual orientation. Following Durso and Gates (2012) the vulnerability of these adolescents is further worsened as they are presented to brutal street situations whereby they are high possibilities of being assaulted physically, victimized, sexually assaulted, mugged, and at worse being murdered. Besides, the freedom they have on the streets has a high inclination towards compelling them to indulge in other unsafe criminal activities, including, drug abuse, robbery, and prostitution.
Keuroghlian, Shtasel, and Bassuk (2014) emphasize that by bypassing such a conspicuous feature within the social work system core principles, besides the strengths and needs of these adolescents are far from being satisfactorily addressed. Moreover, Tyler, Whitbeck, Hoyt, and Cauce (2004) pinpoint that these adolescents represent characters from all different genders and ethnicities. Hence, those who come from an ethnic minority are even at a higher risk of being exposed to numerous social ills, since they endeavor to even find acceptance within their individual communities. These adolescents have twenty-five percent suicide attempt rate as they encounter extra pressures, barriers, and hurdles towards understanding and acceptance. This paper1 was designed to accompany the Model Policy on
Social Media established by the IACP National Law Enforcement
Policy Center. This paper provides essential background materi-
al and supporting documentation to impart greater understand-
ing of the developmental philosophy and implementation
requirements for the model policy. This material will be of value
to law enforcement executives in their efforts to tailor the model
policy to the requirements and the circumstances of their com-
munities and their law enforcement agencies.

From 2002-2004, the UK government piloted the Expert Patient Programme of self-management training courses for patients with long-term conditions, and subsequently rolled the model out nationwide (I. Greener, 2008). Since it’s deployment, however, recent trends have shown growing public interest in engaging with the self-care of health outside of traditional NHS services (Bupa, 2012), and that technological disrupters such as social networks and apps have instead created a more immediate and accessible format in giving patients a forum to share feedback, experiences and learn from other patients on how to manage their own conditions (Corrie & Finch, 2015). While extensive studies have been made of patient-oriented social network platforms like PatientsLikeMe.com (Whitmore & Kempner, 2012; Tempini, 2014) - little is known about how patients informally create and share text-based and visual knowledge with each other via social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. This paper contributes to the literature by critically examining patient behavior on these two platforms via analysis of the use of patient formulated hashtags linked to chronic autoimmune diseases and shared images used to represent chronic disease through the practices of daily self-care. I discuss how this use of mobile technology brings a new meaning to Foucault’s notion of ‘technologies of the self’, and how this adds to the reconfiguration of ‘expertise’ in matters of health and illness in general and the management of chronic illness in particular (Rose 2007). In the 21st Century it seems that patients are becoming more engaged in the formation of new biomedical subjectivity. Individuals informally use smartphones and more to perform the narration and technique of the biosocial self and become experts in the micro-constituents of factors needed for the self-care of their specific autoimmune/genetic illness. To this end, I also discuss how general healthy eating terms like #cleaneating have been appropriated by chronic illness communities with a focus on the biosocial - in the process of informally self-quantifying their experience of long-term conditions.

The document proposes a Statewide Consumer Directory (SCD) to give consumers more control over their personal health information by providing a single location for consumers to:
1) Identify their care team members and preferred providers.
2) Specify their preferences for consenting to how and where their health data is shared.

1 | INTRODUCTION
Violence against nurses in their workplace is a major global
problem that has received increased attention in recent years.1
Approximately 25% of registered nurses report being physi-
cally assaulted by a patient or family member, while over 50%
reported exposure to verbal abuse or bullying.2 Nurses, who
are primarily responsible for providing life- saving care to pa-
tients are victimized at a significantly higher rate than other
health- care professionals,3 and it is estimated that workplace
violence causes 17.2% of nurses to leave their job every year.4
In the United States, workplace violence increased by
23% to become the second most common fatal event in
2016,5 accounting for 1.7 million nonfatal assaults and 900
workplace homicides each year.6 In addition, there has been
an increase in workplace violence in US hospitals, increasing
from 2 events per 100 beds in 2012 to 2.8 events per 100 beds
in 2015.5 In 2016, hospitals and health- care facilities invested
$1.1 billion in security and training to prevent violence and
had to spend $429 million on insurance, staffing, and medical
care due to workplace violence.7
The absence of a universal definition for workplace vi-
olence within health- care settings and the ambiguity about
what constitutes a violent event currently compromise re-
search on the prevalence and magnitude of this phenomenon.
Furthermore, varying definitions and unclear criteria may
lead to nurses failing to identify their experience as a form of
workplace violence, which prevents it from being reported.
Applying the concept analysis method to better under-
stand the violence to which nursing staff are subjected in the
workplace will demystify the factors at play, with the under-
lying intention of preventing such violence. Using concept
analysis to address the theoretical background to such vio-
lence will aid the development of an operational definition

Introduction
Social problem defines notable behavior condition, presenting negative outcomes and consequences to a significant number of people, and is recognized as a problem that requires redress for an effective solution (Chambers and Bonk, 2013). As a community health expert and professional a consideration of a social problem are critical to accommodating identification, assessment, management, and control towards a notable goal of possessing positive implications for the overall population. Substance and drug abuse is one notable social problem with negative implications and consequences for a significant number of individuals in a community. According to the authors, there is significant National survey data that describes the impacts of substance and drug abuse in the USA (McLellan, 2017). In this case, there is specific attention to drug abuse among adolescents in California State, accommodating effective data for assessment to provide the critical framework in addressing the unmet community needs in managing drug abuse among youths. According to California Health Care Almanac, there is an increasing number of young with substance abuse and mental disorder. Similarly, key findings indicate that there is a serious emotional disturbance among youth and adolescents due to substance-related problems with one in eight teens reporting a major depressive episode in 2014–2015, up from one in 11 in 2011–2012. Similarly, 9% of adolescents of age between 12 and 17 reported the use of a substance such as alcohol (California Health Care Almanac, 2018). Admittedly, substance and drug abuse among youths and adolescents in California is an issue tha.

Abstract
Perceived discrimination in medical settings remains prevalent within the U.S. health care
system. However, the details of these experiences and their associations with perceived
quality of care are not well understood. Our study assessed multiple measures of perceived
racial/ethnic discrimination in medical settings and investigated the locations and purported
perpetrators of the discriminatory experiences within a population-based sample of 1,543
Black, White, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Other adults. We used logistic regression to esti-
mate associations between perceived discrimination in the medical setting and three quality
of care indicators. Overall, 40% of the sample reported one or more types of perceived dis-
crimination in a medical setting, with significant differences by race/ethnicity. Discrimination
was perceived across health settings and from a variety of providers and staff. In adjusted
logistic regression models, individuals reporting discrimination had more than twice the
odds of reporting fair or poor quality of care (OR = 2.4 [95% CI: 1.4–4.3]). In addition, per-
ceived discrimination in medical settings was significantly associated with report of not hav-
ing enough time with the physician and not being as involved in decision-making as desired.
These findings expand our understanding of perceived discriminatory experiences in health
care and the consequences of it for patients, providers, and health care systems. This infor-
mation is essential for identifying future provider interventions and improving the training of
health care professionals.
Introduction
Racial and ethnic disparities in access to, and quality of, health care are pervasive and contrib-
ute to the persistent negative health outcomes seen among communities of color [1–7]. Per-
ceived discrimination may underlie both disparities in health care and health outcomes [8,9].
In particular, research is needed to better understand racial and ethnic discrimination in the
health care setting, which likely impacts health care perceptions and outcomes [10–13].
