HISTORY OF MULTAN:
• The Multan region has been continuously inhabited for at least 5,000
years.
• Multan is one of the oldest cities of the world dating back 6000years
when it was known as “Maloha”, a cultural and trade hub between
central Asia and South Asia.
• It was conquered by Alexander the Great in 326 BC.
• It was conquered along with Sindh by Muhammad bin Qasim in 712
AD.
• Multan was attacked by Mehmud of Ghazni in 1005 CE.
• Taimur, Babar and many other rulers invaded this city.
• Ancient Multan was the centre of a solar-worshipping cult
GEOGRAPHY
• Multan's urban typology is similar to other ancient cities in South Asia, such
as Peshawar, Lahore, and Delhi - all of which were founded near a major river, and included
an old walled city, as well as a royal citadel.
• The City of Multan is located in the South of Punjab. The Chenab River is located on the east
of the city. The nearest major cities are Deraa Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Layyah.
• The area around the city is best for agriculture , with many citrus and mango farms. There
are many canals that cut across the Multan District, providing water from nearby farms. The
canal system of Pakistan is the best in the world. This makes the land very fertile.
• Multan is located in Punjab, and covers an area of 133 square kilometers (51 sq mi)
CLIMATE:
• Multan features an arid climate with very hot summers and mild
winters. The city witnesses some of the most extreme weather in the
country.
• Dust storms are a common occurrence within the city.
• Multan is known for having some of the hottest weather in the
Pakistan. The highest recorded temperature is approximately 52 °C
(126 °F), and the lowest recorded temperature is approximately −1 °C
(30 °F).
• Multan’s climate is primarily influenced by Western Disturbances
which occurs b/w winter months (Dec and Feb), Dust storms which
occurse during summer months, Heat Waves occurs in May and
June, South West Monsoon occurs the hottest months of the year and
