The Jurassic period occurred between 206-144 million years ago as part of the Mesozoic era. The climate was warm with tropical and temperate conditions worldwide. The atmosphere contained high levels of carbon dioxide and continents had separated into Laurasia and Gondwana. Dinosaurs like Brachiosaurus and Allosaurus roamed on land while ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, and crocodyliforms inhabited the seas and oceans. Sauropods were particularly abundant and diverse during this time.

The Jurassic Era, often referred to as the "Golden Age of Dinosaurs," was a pivotal period in Earth's history, spanning from approximately 201 to 145 million years ago. During this time, the planet experienced significant geological and climatic changes, and it hosted a diverse array of fascinating creatures, including some of the most iconic dinosaurs known to us today.
The Jurassic Era was characterized by vast, lush landscapes and diverse ecosystems. Massive coniferous forests dominated the land, providing the perfect habitat for a variety of plant and animal life. The seas were home to numerous marine reptiles, while the skies were ruled by majestic flying creatures.
Land Giants:
The Jurassic period showcased an array of colossal dinosaurs, some of which have become household names. Among the herbivorous giants, the Brachiosaurus stands out as one of the tallest dinosaurs ever discovered. With its long neck and towering presence, it grazed on the abundant vegetation of the time. The Stegosaurus, known for its distinctive plated back and spiked tail, was another notable herbivore that roamed the Jurassic landscapes.
Ferocious Predators:
The Jurassic Era was also marked by fearsome predators, each equipped with unique features for hunting and survival. The Allosaurus, a carnivorous dinosaur, was a dominant predator, known for its large size, powerful jaws, and sharp teeth. Another formidable predator, the Dilophosaurus, featured a distinctive double crest on its head and was likely an agile hunter.
The Airborne Wonders:
Taking to the skies during the Jurassic Era were the Pterosaurs, a group of flying reptiles that weren't dinosaurs but shared the same environment. The Pterodactyl, with its elongated beak and impressive wingspan, soared through the skies, showcasing the incredible diversity of life during this period.
Coexistence and Extinction:
While the Jurassic Era was a time of thriving biodiversity, it eventually gave way to the Cretaceous Period, which witnessed the rise of new dinosaur species. The end of the Jurassic saw significant environmental changes, including shifting continents and alterations in sea levels. These changes likely contributed to the extinction of certain species, paving the way for the next chapter in Earth's history.
It is a presentation on the various species of dinosaurs, some other reptiles and mammals of the Prehistoric Age as well. It takes you on a journey of about 165 million years, from the Triassic Period to the Cretaceous Period. After that there is a lot of information on prehistoric mammals which became extinct thousands of years ago. It also tells us a bit about the evolution of humans.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dilophosaurus.
You’ll learn about them later.
2. The Jurassic period: what does it mean?
The Jurassic period, which occurred between the Triassic and Cretaceous
periods in the Mesozoic era, which means “The Age of Reptiles”.
3. How long did it last?
This period lasted from to 206 to 144
million years ago and ended with a mass
extinction and the beginning of
Cretaceous period.
It started with a major extinction event
as well, with most invertebrates going
extinct. The Jurassic period was a part of
the Mid-Mesozoic era.
4. Earth’s Climate During this time
The Earth’s climate during the Jurassic period was quite warm, with
tropical climates and temperate ones. Scientists have found that there
weren’t many glaciers during this time and many lush forests,
indicating that it was warmer during this period.
5. The atmosphere during this time
Science shows the atmosphere was humid, cloudy, and had much more
carbon dioxide in the air than the current atmosphere.
6. Earth’s continents during the Jurassic Period
This was right after pangea
broke up, so there were only 2
supercontinents:
1.Laurasia
2.Gondwana
Laurasia was in the north
while Gondwana was in the
south. Laurasia is now North
America, Europe and Asia;
Gondwana is currently South
America, India, Africa,
7. Although the term Jurassic may conjure up images of dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex,
stegosaurus, Aptosaurus and Applosaruus. The Jurassic period was the golden age for
sauropods, large, long-necked quadruped dinosaurs. The most famous being Brachiosaurus, the
ancestor to the largest dinosaur known to have walked the planet, Argentinosaurus, a 100 ton
sauropod. Certain sauropods, like Mamenchisaurus (below), had necks more than half their
entire body length, making scientists question even today how they held their heads up.

Predators like allosaurus, a slightly smaller cousin of the tyrannosaurus .
Some scientists think that they had the ability to unhinge their jaw like a snake.
I told you they’d be back! Dilophosaurus was another predator during this time.
Unlike most creatures from the 1993 movie Jurassic Park, Dilophosaurus was actually larger .
BUT WAIT - There’s more.

10. Dinosaurs of the Jurassic - In The Sky
Dinosaurs and not-so-dinosaurs ruled the skies during the
Jurassic period. Dinosaurs like Dimorphodon, a small
winged creature with a huge t-rex shaped head(seriously,
this thing was a mutant) played a dominant role. The
Jurassic was also the period where the first birds came
into known existence.
Archaeopteryx, a small feathered creature, is still argued
over today as to weather it was a bird or reptile, but it
may have been the ancestor to the giraffe sized.

11. One of the most well-known aquatic dinosaurs
of the Jurassic is the ichthyosaur. These
creatures were similar in appearance to
modern-day dolphins, with streamlined bodies
and long, pointed snouts. They were able to
swim quickly through the water using powerful
flippers, and their large eyes allowed them to
see well in low light conditions.
Dinosaurs of the Jurassic - In The Water
At that time shallow seas of North America and
Europe containing a large variety of marine
reptiles including dinosaurs.
12. Dinosaurs of the Jurassic - In The Water
Another group of aquatic dinosaurs that lived
during the Jurassic were the plesiosaurs. These
creatures had long necks and four flippers, and
they are often depicted in popular culture with
their heads sticking out of the water.
Finally, there were also several types of
crocodile-like dinosaurs that lived in the water
during the Jurassic period. These creatures,
known as crocodyliforms, had long, tooth-filled
jaws
13. Plant life alive during this time
Many plants started dominating early earth during the Jurassic period. There
were many gymnosperms, cycads, glossopteris, and cycadeoids. The
Jurassic period is also known as the “Age of Cycads”.
