whiteboard – if correct you can sit down – if not, you
need to stay standing up until you are able to correct it.

What does the word ‘value’ mean?
Make your notes in your notebook.

 The regard that something is held to deserve; the
importance, worth, or usefulness of something.
What does the word ‘principles’
mean?
Make your notes in your notebook.

Meaning of principles
 A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the
foundation for a system of belief or behaviour or for a
chain of reasoning.
What are your own personal
values and principles in life.
 Spend a couple of minutes thinking about the things that
are important to you and why.
 Complete the handout provided (person)
 Share with the rest of the group.
What Values and Principles could we have in
childcare, health and social care settings?
 In small groups discuss and write these down ready to
share with the rest of the group.

 Chose how you will present your work.
 Your poster or leaflet will be given to a new practitioner
working in care. You need to tell them the following
information:
 The different values and principles that support work in
health and social care and childcare.
 The guidance and standards that give us the understanding
of values and principles in care.
Summarise what you have learnt
in the session
 Write a short paragraph to say what you have learnt in
todays session.

  • 7. Meaning of principles  A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behaviour or for a chain of reasoning.
  • 8. What are your own personal values and principles in life.  Spend a couple of minutes thinking about the things that are important to you and why.  Complete the handout provided (person)  Share with the rest of the group.

You need to tell them the following information:  The different values and principles that support work in health and social care and childcare.  The guidance and standards that give us the understanding of values and principles in care.
