The Mathematics and Science of Field Based Inquiry for Elementary Teachers project provided a 15-day summer program for 56 elementary teachers to increase their content knowledge in math and science through field-based inquiry research. Teachers conducted research using technology like digital data collectors at locations like Cameron University, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, and Beavers Bend State Park. They created digital anthologies of their findings and shared results on a group wiki website. The goals were to boost teacher content knowledge, motivate the use of inquiry-based teaching, and integrate technology and math and science across disciplines.

Mathematics and Science of Field Based Inquiry for Elementary
Teachers increased the content knowledge and teaching skills of 1st
through 5th grade elementary teachers for mathematics and science in
SW Oklahoma by providing a quality program that focuses on field
based inquiry research.
PASS objectives were covered and written in journals for each
Seining for fish in Southwestern Oklahoma
activity at Cameron University in class and during all field research.
Elementary teachers met with Cameron professors and other
specialists for a 15 day summer project based on authentic inquiry
using technology to investigate field based inquiry for mathematics
and science in Oklahoma.
Teachers created digital anthologies on a DVD that was posted on
a group wiki web site especially designed for all 21 school districts
that displayed data collected by research. Teachers used the latest
technology in the form of field computers, or NOVA 5000 digital
data collectors to collect their research.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

.
1. Increase the content knowledge of elementary teachers in
science and mathematics using field based inquiry research
for 21 school districts.
2. Motivate all teachers involved to use inquiry based research
to help their own students understand the scientific method
of problem solving and the process of data collection.
3. Teachers will use graphing as the main reporting method of
data collection during the project.
4. Expose teachers to the use of interdisciplinary methods of
mathematics and science field trip based
projects..
5. Integrate technology into the field based inquiry process.
