This research aimed to determine the quality of life of patients who had undergone surgery for major bile duct injuries. The study involved 90 patients at Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty. Data was collected using a patient information form and the SF-36 health survey. The data was analyzed using SPSS software and various statistical tests. It was found that factors like education level, marital status, health insurance, income, number of children, work status, and living situation influenced changes in quality of life. It was proposed to increase awareness of postoperative complications, develop new assessment tools specific to bile duct injuries, and conduct further research across treatment to better understand recovery.

Objectives This current study was carried out to evaluate the level of physical activity PA among undergraduate students of faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya. Materials and methods This was a cross sectional study which was conducted at Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Data was collected through a self administered questionnaire International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form IPAQ SF and total of 231 students responded. Prior to the data collection, informed written consent was taken from the students. Main outcome measures MET value Metabolic Equitant Results The mean total MET of the population indicated that of ‘moderate physical activity level’. Comparing four study years 4th year to 1st year , total MET level was gradually declining from 1st year to 4th year though there were no statistically significant relationship found. PA level was moderate in all the degree programs but the values were different. In relation to sex, males were predominant in all the MET categories. According to the BMI category, normal weighted students were presented with higher values for MET categories compared with others. Conclusion All the students of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya were moderately physically active with higher percentages of walking MET minutes week in all the variables. PA score is gradually declined from first year to final year. RAD students were more physically active among all five degree programs. Male students and normal weighted students had higher PA scores respectively for sex category and BMI category. Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hot intermittent cupping on pain, stiffness and inability of patients with knee osteoarthritis (KO). Methods: The present study was a clinical trial, which was performed on 38 patients with KO referring to Gonabad Rheumatology Specialty Clinic. Based on permutation block method, the research units were divided into cupping therapy and control groups. For the cupping therapy group, four sessions of cupping therapy were performed every four days. To collect data, the form of demographic information, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster (WOMAC) osteoarthritis scale were used, and the data were analyzed by SPSS software v. 16 using descriptive statistics and independent t-test, paired t-test, Chi-square test and Fishers exact test with a significance level of P < 0.05. Results: Findings showed that there was no significant difference between the cupping therapy and control groups in terms of demographic characteristics and they were homogeneous. Findings indicated that, based on VAS, the mean pain intensity in the left (P < 0.001) and the right knees (P < 0.001), as well as based on WOMAC, stiffness (P = 0.006), pain intensity (P < 0.001) and disability (P < 0.001) in the cupping therapy group significantly decreased compared to the control group. Conclusion: Findings showed that hot intermittent cupping therapy reduced the pain intensity, stiffness and disability in patients with KO.

This study aimed to assess the quality of life and coping strategies of dialysis patients in Mangalore, India. The objectives were to examine patients' quality of life, identify coping strategies, and determine relationships between quality of life, coping strategies, and demographic variables. The researcher hypothesized significant relationships between quality of life and coping strategies, and between quality of life and demographics. Data was collected from 60 patients using quality of life and coping scales. Results found most patients had average quality of life and satisfactory coping, with a significant relationship between the two. The conclusion was that better coping strategies were linked to higher quality of life.

This study examined how intensivists make decisions about withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment for critically ill patients at the end of life. In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 intensivists from two hospitals in the UK. The analysis identified three main themes that influenced intensivists' decision-making: their role and responsibilities, considerations of treatment effectiveness, and the patient's best interests. Two overarching tensions also emerged: balancing prolonging life versus quality of life, and balancing their sense of responsibility with the burden of end-of-life decisions. Case reports and studies may be defined as the non-experimental description of an individual or a few of cases in terms of new or unusual presentation of the diseases, an unexpected disease course or pathophysiology, and new effects (either beneficial or detrimental) of existing medications or procedures. Although they suffer from the non-experimental nature and other potential bias and errors, case reports and studies have played and will continue to play an important part in the advancement of medicine. They often serve as "primers" leading to discoveries of new diseases/disease pathophysiology as well as development of new preventive and therapeutic measures. Case reports and case studies are also employed as a platform for the training of medical students and/or resident doctors in scientific writing and critical thinking. Although the significance of case reports and studies in medicine has being recognized since the early stage of development of clinical medicine, their value needs to be appreciated in the context of modern clinical research design and the hierarchy of strength of evidence for guiding patient care. This paper discusses case reports and studies within the big picture of clinical research, research design, and evidence-based practice.

This study assessed satisfaction in 89 women who underwent concurrent pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair and midurethral sling placement to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI). At the 1-year follow-up, 72% of patients had complete cure of both POP and SUI, while 17% and 10% had persistent SUI or POP respectively. Overall, 88% reported being satisfied. Patients who achieved complete cure of both conditions had a 95% satisfaction rate, while 40% were dissatisfied if SUI was not cured and 22% if POP was not cured. Quality of life after tumor surgery

This study examined how intensivists make decisions about withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment for critically ill patients at the end of life. In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 intensivists from two hospitals in the UK. The analysis identified three main themes that influenced intensivists' decision-making: their role and responsibilities, considerations of treatment effectiveness, and the patient's best interests. Two overarching tensions also emerged: balancing prolonging life versus quality of life, and balancing their sense of responsibility with the burden of end-of-life decisions. Case reports and studies may be defined as the non-experimental description of an individual or a few of cases in terms of new or unusual presentation of the diseases, an unexpected disease course or pathophysiology, and new effects (either beneficial or detrimental) of existing medications or procedures. Although they suffer from the non-experimental nature and other potential bias and errors, case reports and studies have played and will continue to play an important part in the advancement of medicine. They often serve as "primers" leading to discoveries of new diseases/disease pathophysiology as well as development of new preventive and therapeutic measures. Case reports and case studies are also employed as a platform for the training of medical students and/or resident doctors in scientific writing and critical thinking. Although the significance of case reports and studies in medicine has being recognized since the early stage of development of clinical medicine, their value needs to be appreciated in the context of modern clinical research design and the hierarchy of strength of evidence for guiding patient care. This study assessed satisfaction in 89 women who underwent concurrent pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair and midurethral sling placement to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI). At the 1-year follow-up, 72% of patients had complete cure of both POP and SUI, while 17% and 10% had persistent SUI or POP respectively. Overall, 88% reported being satisfied. Patients who achieved complete cure of both conditions had a 95% satisfaction rate, while 40% were dissatisfied if SUI was not cured and 22% if POP was not cured. Quality of life after tumor surgery

This study examined the effects of a self-care education program on quality of life in 105 patients with esophageal cancer in Iran. Patients were randomly assigned to an experimental group that received the education program or a control group. The program consisted of group discussions, lectures, and pamphlets focused on self-care behaviors. Quality of life was assessed before and 3 months after the intervention using standardized questionnaires. After the program, the experimental group showed significant improvements in quality of life scores, while the control group's scores decreased. The study concluded that self-care education programs can positively impact quality of life in patients with esophageal cancer.
RESEARCH PRAPOSAL
This study conducted in Mulago Hospital ICU in Uganda aimed to determine if abnormal chest x-rays and Modified Early Warning Scores (MEWS) could predict patient mortality. The prospective observational study analyzed 87 patients admitted to the ICU requiring mechanical ventilation. Results found patients with MEWS ≥5 and abnormal superior mediastinum on chest x-rays were associated with higher mortality. While abnormal chest x-rays may help predict mortality, the relationship was not statistically significant likely due to small sample size. MEWS was a better predictor of mortality and could help prioritize treatment. Larger studies are still needed to further evaluate chest x-rays as a predictive tool in low-resource ICU settings.

This study assessed early postoperative complications in 431 adult patients undergoing neurosurgery over four months. The most common complication was nausea and vomiting, which occurred in 38% of patients. Respiratory problems occurred in 2.8% of patients and cardiovascular complications in 6.7%. The highest rates of complications were for spinal (65%) and vascular (66%) surgeries compared to tumor (47%) and other (43%) surgeries. Younger patients undergoing elective spinal surgery had the highest risk of nausea and vomiting. The study found a high overall incidence of early postoperative complications for neurosurgery patients.

Background: Intraoperative and post-operative morbimortality factors are multiple in pediatric patients. Studies in pediatric cardiac surgery and intensive care patients have identified transfusion as one independent factor among others. This study was undertaken to investigate whether transfusion was an independent factor of morbimortality in pediatric abdominal surgical patients. Objectives: The objective of the study is to identify morbimortality risk factors in intraoperatively transfused and not transfused pediatric abdominal surgical patients. Design: This was a retrospective observational descriptive pediatric cohort study. Setting: Monocentric pediatric tertiary center, Necker–Enfants Malades University Hospital, Paris, from January 1, 2014, to May 17, 2017. Patients: 193 patients with a median age of 27.5 months (1.0–100.5) were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were the presence or the absence of transfusion in the intraoperative period in abdominal surgery patients. Exclusion criterion was transfusion in the post-operative period until discharge from hospital and non-abdominal surgical patients.

Role of Stem Cell Transplantation in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis
This thesis examines the role of autologous bone marrow stem cell intravenous injection in treating ulcerative colitis. It conducted a randomized clinical trial on 10 Egyptian patients with UC. This randomized controlled trial compared low ligation versus high ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery during laparoscopic anterior resection for rectal cancer.
