This document discusses experimental investigation of turning processes using minimum quality lubrication (MQL). MQL uses 10,000 times less cutting fluid than conventional lubrication systems by applying an atomized spray of oil to lubricate the tool-workpiece interface. The purpose is to develop a more environmentally friendly and low-cost machining process. MQL systems can be used for both turning and grinding operations. The advantages include a cleaner, more environmentally friendly process with increased cutting speeds and improved chip evacuation and tool life. Disadvantages include higher initial costs and maintenance over traditional flooded lubrication systems.
