WHICH DO YOU HAVE?
CALLING
A Calling stems from your
inherent gifts and passions.
There may still be levels of
mastery to attain, however you
know you’ll probably be
unfulfilled in life if you don’t go
after your dreams. Am I right?
When you work inside your
calling, it doesn’t feel like work.
The hours pass without you even
noticing. And when you go to a
party, no one has to ask you what
you do. You spark up the
conversation just so that you
have a chance to talk about what
you are working on, and when
given the opportunity you could
probably talk about it all night
long.
JOB
A Job is something you do to
pay your bills.
You show up and perform
your duties, yet all the while
probably watching the hands
of the clock go tick tock until
you can finally leave at the end
of the day. If you were asked
to advance your career in this
direction you might get a little
sick to your stomach (because
it’s not really how you see the
rest of your life playing out). A
job is also something you
might feel a little shameful
talking about at parties
(because it doesn’t adequately
represent who you truly are).
CAREER
A Career has an upward trajectory
with a plan to achieve increased
mastery in your field.
It includes the bigger picture. As
you move forward, this may also
include additional responsibilities
and higher earnings (oh heck ya,
it’s always nice to make more
Benjamins). When you are at a
party and someone asks you what
you do for work, you may have a
sense of pride in describing what
you do for work, but it may be a
one or 2 sentence answer and
then you probably prefer to move
on and talk about something else.

• Keeping your career profile up to date will ensure you are ready when

• Your entire career profile must be keyword optimized. Almost

MYTH: COMPANIES WILL BE OFFENDED IF YOU NEGOTIATE.
Interestingly, many companies are impressed when you negotiate, provided that you
do so in a business-like manner. It is customary for hiring managers to purposely leave
some “wiggle room” when making an initial offer, allowing for a back-and-forth
discussion before settling on a final number. Don’t worry, they are actually expecting
some pushback.
If someone is extending an offer to you, that means your skills are in demand. You
should be excited to negotiate, not scared. Negotiating a new job offer is one of the
greatest opportunities in your career to significantly increase your salary.
