2. What is social media?
Social Media is a means of engaging with
Motley's readers. The aim of social media is to
entertain, inform and converse all while
improving Motley's image and directing hits to
our website.
3. What social media
does Motley have?
Motley currently has Facebook and Twitter and I aim to
increase the followers greatly.
Facebook
Twitter
0 500 1000 1500 2000 2500 3000 3500
2014
2013
6. Aspects of good social media
Correct spelling and grammar
NO TXT SPEAK AND LOADS OF
EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!
Or Xs and Os XOXOXOXOO
Keep it professional but still fun
7. Speaking for the magazine
Remember that the magazine's fb and twitter
pages speak for the magazine so put your best
fut forward
No coarse language, foul play, sexism, racism,
homophobia or making fun of mature students.
No singling out people. Motley isn't your
personal page.
However celebrities are fair game.
If anyone leaves a complaint on the FB page or
sends a nasty tweet in please leave me (The
Editor) deal with it.
8. What can you post?
'Memes' or quick witted picutres e.g.
http://on.fb.me/19iPLOt
Events you're involved with once you've
permission from the editor.
New music videos but with a comment to create
a conversation e.g. http://on.fb.me/17wSq6z
Images taken on campus i.e. Christmas tree,
scavenger hunt. (No stalker photos)
9. What can't you post?
Links to rival publications
Links to other news sources. The aim is to get
people engaging with Motley not other people.
So instead of posting a link about an actor
dying, make a status about it with a lovely
picture e.g. http://on.fb.me/1aGsxzW
No sharing pictures – save it and post it as
Motley
10. Dangers of facebook
When managing a FB page you're
automatically set to act as the page when
interacting with it.
In layman's terms, if you see a post belonging
to Motley in your news feed and you like it, it'll
come up as Motley liking their own post unless
you've specifically gone onto the page and
chosen to act as yourself.
This is particularly important as it could cause
hassle e.g. Motley got into a shit storm when it
ran that SU Elections opinion poll and someone
voted in the polls as Motley Magazine.
11. THE TWITTER BEAST
Twitter may seem easy but it's very tricky to get the hang of
professionally.
Anything that's posted on the Facebook is also posted on the
twitter page.
When giving a shout out to someone do not include the
@Mention at the beginning of the tweet and if you do have a full
stop (.) before hand i.e. '.@UCC to launch space program'
If you send the tweet like this '@UCC to launch space program'
only followers who follow @UCC will see it and you'll be
effectively cutting your audience in half.
12. WHAT'S A #HASHTAG
Hashtags are a way to easily group tweets by a
certain topic e.g. “Devo Tulisa left the #Xfactor”
#They #Do #Not #Need #To #Be #Used #On
#Every #Word #To #Ensure #Discovery
Twitter's search function is smarter than that.
Most used hashtags this year will be #UCC
#Cork #UCCMedia
If anyone has any interesting in live tweeting
events please say so! Matches & TV Shows
welcome
13. SO IN SHORT....
No text speak
No offensive language
Be professional
Be engaging
Be entertaining
Be the best you can be
