This chapter discusses motivation from multiple perspectives including behavioral, humanistic, cognitive, and sociocultural approaches. It covers topics such as goal orientation, interests and emotions, and self-schemas. The key aspects of motivation discussed are its definition as an internal state that arouses and directs behavior, distinctions between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and the importance of goals, self-efficacy, and beliefs on motivation. The chapter provides teachers with strategies for improving student motivation based on these psychological theories.
