• In 2pac & Elton John’s ‘Ghetto Gospel’ you see a young man
get shot and you watch him die.
3. Ritual Celebration
• A lot of music videos feature parties on the beach, in the
streets etc.
• Black artists are usually seen as happy & white artists are
usually acting tough.
• In Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ video it shows a ritual
celebration of them dancing in the street.
4. Fragmentation of the body
• A lot of music videos feature close ups of the
eyes, mouth, breasts body etc.
• It has any fragment of the body that isn’t centered in the shot.
• A good example of this is in Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ video
5. Mythical & Mysterious
• Many artists feature Post apocalyptic scenes in their music
videos. This features the artists singing and dancing in a
dystopian world as if world war 3 has just occurred. It shows
the world as an unhappy place instead of the future being
happy.
• Justin Bieber & Chris Brown’s music video ‘Next 2 U’ is a good
example of this.
6. Impossible Sequences
• A lot of music videos contain impossible sequences, which can
be fast or slow motion shots, special effects or animation.
• Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ music video is a good example of special
effects.
