Morning
Meeting
Ideas
Shoe Salad Greeting
– This one is so much fun and is one of our favorite morning meeting
greetings. But…you must be strong. And brave. And courageous.
– Students remove one shoe and place all of the shoes in a
pile. Teacher says go and students grab a shoe. They find the
owner of the shoe and greet them!
Sight Word Greeting
– This is a simple and fun way to review sight words (or any skill!)
– Program labels (regular ol’ address labels) with sight words. (You can
even analyze your data and see which words your kiddos need more
help with….look at us analyzing data….)
– Place a label on each student.
– When students greet one another, they greet each other by SIGHT
WORD instead of their name!
– “Good morning LIKE!”
– “Good morning CAN”
Hello Neighbor
--- A Song by Doctor Jean
– Hello Neighbor
– What Do You Say
– It’s Going to Be a Happy Day!
–
– Greet Your Neighbor
– Boogie On Down
– Give A Bump and Turn Around!
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do
You See?
– Read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You see first and it helps you to
get a general idea how to run the activity.
–
– Students sit in a circle and do a quiet mix up three times.
– Pull out a child’s name stick from a pencil case and the morning greeting starts from
this child.
– For Example, the child name is Emma
– Emma, Emma, what do you see……
– Emma would pick another child and say I see ___ looking at me!
– And then whoever got picked gets to pick a different person to greet.
Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do
You Hear
– Read the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear first and it helps you to get a general
idea how to run the activity.
– Students sit in a circle and do a quiet mix up three times.
– Pull out a child’s name stick from a pencil case and the morning greeting starts from this child.
– For Example, the child name is Emma
– Emma, Emma, what do you hear……
– Emma would pick another child and say I hear ___ talking in my ear/sneezing in my ear/
laughing in my ear/ giggling in my ear/ screaming in my ear/ whispering in my ear…
– What all the students need to do is to pick a sound to say…
Spider Web Greeting
– For this double greeting, throw a ball of yarn around greeting each other and
hanging on to the yarn before throwing it to the next person.
– After the web is created, take turns crawling through the web greeting another
student.
Energizers!!!
Popcorn's in the Popper
– https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Koi-EDhYixA
– Students will be introduced to the three movements (teacher can decide on how
the movements look like)- strong man (show strong arm muscle), pirate (cover one
eye) and mermaid (Hawaii dance movement)
–
– 1.Students first find a partner and stand back to back. They are going to have one of
the movements ready in their head.
–
– 2.Then the partner count “1,2,3” and turn to face each other showing their
movements at the same time.
–
– 3.If the movements are the same then the students can go and find new partners to
do this energizer again.
–
– 4.If the movements don’t match then the students keep turning and showing the
movements until they get the same one. Then they can move on to find new
partners to repeat step 1 and 2.
Three movments
Colour Touch
– Game Explanation: Call out a colour. The students race to find & touch an object of
the same colour somewhere in the classroom within a predetermined time limit.
–
– Note: This game can be played with all of the students racing to touch objects at the
same time in teams, or individually. Modify as needed. For example, pin or tape a
coloured shape to each student’s back. Call out ‘Touch a [coloured shape]’. Every
student must search for & touch the coloured shape you’ve called out.
–
– Time: 5-7 minutes
Pass the Squeeze
– Have the class form a circle and get everyone to link hands to make a chain.
– Have everyone close their eyes - as a class, take at least five deep and gentle
breaths.
– The teacher will then squeeze the left hand of one child, who will then pass the
squeeze on to the next person in the circle.
– This continues until the squeeze goes all around the circle.
– Once the squeeze gets around the entire circle, students can open their eyes.
– To finish the activity, the teacher will break the chain in one place.
– The child with which the teacher breaks the chain becomes the leader of the chain
and walks slowly around the gym and back to the classroom.
Elephant and Airplane
– · Have the class stand in a circle and teacher stand in the middle.
– · Teacher will point at a student while saying”elephant” or “airplane”.
– · If a player be pointed as “elephant”, the player in the middle uses both arms to
make an elephant’s trunk (index finger and thumb held onto the nose and the other
arm pushed through the loop) and makes the trumpeting noise of an elephant. The
other two players beside the middle represent the flapping ears (using their hands
or arms in front of the middle player’s ears).
– · The player in the middle holds the steering controls, the two other players make
engine noises and both players stretch out one arm to represent the wings of the
plane. The curving flight movements of the plane are represented by lowering one
arm on one side and lifting another arm on the opposite side (can you also manage
a somersault?)
One by One Counting Game
– Invite students to stand in a circle. Introduce
the activity: Our task is to count from 1 to
10 out loud, in random order, with each
group member offering one number at a
time. If two people say a number at the
same time, the game stops and begins
again.
Mirror
Student A: lead the action
Student B: Copy the action
Audience guess who is the actor who is the copier
Thimble Game
– You will need:
– A thimble (or other small object, such as a button, coin or toy)
–
– How to play:
– Now choose one child to be first to places the thimble in spot that is neither easy or hard
to find. The thimble must be hidden in such a way that it can be seen without moving
furniture, opening drawers and cupboards, and otherwise disturbing your room! All the
other kids leave the room. (Usually the first student to come back from the specialist hides
the thimble.)
– When the thimble is placed the children are called back in to find it. When someone sees
it, they say nothing and just sit quietly on the carpet without giving any clues about where
the thimble is hidden. Continue until all the students are sitting. To help the last person,
you could say “hot” or “cold” to describe the student’s distance from the thimble.
Whoever found it first, get to hide it next time.
Dancer and Dance floor
– No material needed.
–
– How to play:
– No winner or loser in this game.
–
– Students all sit in a circle. One student chooses a word, for example “sausages”.
Everyone’s left hand is the dance floor and the right hand is the dancer. Everyone
put their dancer on the dance floor to their right. Then everyone closes their eyes
and waits for the first student to say “sausages”. When that happens, the hand that
is the dance floor tries to catch the dancer and the dancers tries to jump up away
from the dance floor. Play it this way a few times then have them switch…right hand
dance floor, left hand dancer.
– No material needed.
– How to play:
– One person stands in the middle. When this person calls out a name, for
example John. Then John must duck to avoid being “splatted”. The players on
either side of John must shout "Splat!" or “Kapow” One of the following then
occurs:
– If the players next to John said "Splat" before John can duck, then John is out
and sits down.
– If John ducked in time and the person who said “Splat” last is out of the game.
– If both said "Splat" simultaneously, then no-one is out and play continues.
– If someone accidentally ducks or says “Splat” when they were not supposed to
be doing so then they are also out.
– When only two players remain, they must stand back-to-back in the center of
the circle as in an old-fashioned duel of honour. If the leader shouts either of
their names, both players must turn and shout “Splat”, the quickest on the draw
winning the game. If the leader shouts any other names, both players must take
a few step forwards.
Splat!

The students race to find & touch an object of the same colour somewhere in the classroom within a predetermined time limit. – – Note: This game can be played with all of the students racing to touch objects at the same time in teams, or individually. Modify as needed. For example, pin or tape a coloured shape to each student’s back. Call out ‘Touch a [coloured shape]’. Every student must search for & touch the coloured shape you’ve called out. – – Time: 5-7 minutes
  • 18. Pass the Squeeze – Have the class form a circle and get everyone to link hands to make a chain. – Have everyone close their eyes - as a class, take at least five deep and gentle breaths. – The teacher will then squeeze the left hand of one child, who will then pass the squeeze on to the next person in the circle. – This continues until the squeeze goes all around the circle. – Once the squeeze gets around the entire circle, students can open their eyes. – To finish the activity, the teacher will break the chain in one place. – The child with which the teacher breaks the chain becomes the leader of the chain and walks slowly around the gym and back to the classroom.
  • 19. Elephant and Airplane – · Have the class stand in a circle and teacher stand in the middle. – · Teacher will point at a student while saying”elephant” or “airplane”. – · If a player be pointed as “elephant”, the player in the middle uses both arms to make an elephant’s trunk (index finger and thumb held onto the nose and the other arm pushed through the loop) and makes the trumpeting noise of an elephant. The other two players beside the middle represent the flapping ears (using their hands or arms in front of the middle player’s ears). – · The player in the middle holds the steering controls, the two other players make engine noises and both players stretch out one arm to represent the wings of the plane. The curving flight movements of the plane are represented by lowering one arm on one side and lifting another arm on the opposite side (can you also manage a somersault?)
  • 20. One by One Counting Game – Invite students to stand in a circle. Introduce the activity: Our task is to count from 1 to 10 out loud, in random order, with each group member offering one number at a time. If two people say a number at the same time, the game stops and begins again.

  • 22. Thimble Game – You will need: – A thimble (or other small object, such as a button, coin or toy) – – How to play: – Now choose one child to be first to places the thimble in spot that is neither easy or hard to find. The thimble must be hidden in such a way that it can be seen without moving furniture, opening drawers and cupboards, and otherwise disturbing your room! All the other kids leave the room. (Usually the first student to come back from the specialist hides the thimble.) – When the thimble is placed the children are called back in to find it. When someone sees it, they say nothing and just sit quietly on the carpet without giving any clues about where the thimble is hidden. Continue until all the students are sitting. To help the last person, you could say “hot” or “cold” to describe the student’s distance from the thimble. Whoever found it first, get to hide it next time.
  • 23. Dancer and Dance floor – No material needed. – – How to play: – No winner or loser in this game. – – Students all sit in a circle. One student chooses a word, for example “sausages”. Everyone’s left hand is the dance floor and the right hand is the dancer. Everyone put their dancer on the dance floor to their right. Then everyone closes their eyes and waits for the first student to say “sausages”. When that happens, the hand that is the dance floor tries to catch the dancer and the dancers tries to jump up away from the dance floor. Play it this way a few times then have them switch…right hand dance floor, left hand dancer.
  • 24. – No material needed. – How to play: – One person stands in the middle. When this person calls out a name, for example John. Then John must duck to avoid being “splatted”. The players on either side of John must shout "Splat!" or “Kapow” One of the following then occurs: – If the players next to John said "Splat" before John can duck, then John is out and sits down. – If John ducked in time and the person who said “Splat” last is out of the game. – If both said "Splat" simultaneously, then no-one is out and play continues. – If someone accidentally ducks or says “Splat” when they were not supposed to be doing so then they are also out. – When only two players remain, they must stand back-to-back in the center of the circle as in an old-fashioned duel of honour. If the leader shouts either of their names, both players must turn and shout “Splat”, the quickest on the draw winning the game. If the leader shouts any other names, both players must take a few step forwards. Splat!
