* 2nd grade mainstream students, between the ages of 7 and 8.
14 boys and 11 girls, 75% white 14 % African-American, 11%
Latino. 7 students have ADHD.
* Specific entry competencies
* Analyze students and find out if they have ever read any Dr.
Seuss books. If they have read Dr. Seuss ask what books they
have read so you don’t put them in a group with that book.
Find out, also, what they know about Dr. Seuss.
* Learning styles
* Use several different learning styles while teaching about Dr.
Seuss especially because there are so many students and
there are also students with ADHD.
*
* My students will learn three important skills while exploring Dr. Seuss. Those skills
rhyme, reading expression, and roll play. This lesson is a 10 day lesson. We will first as
a class discuss Dr. Seuss and who he is. We will use a KWL chart (know, want to learn,
and learned) before we read an article about Dr. Seuss and fill out the rest of the chart
while reading. The next day we will also discuss what a rhyme is. We will use a Dr.
Seuss book to identify rhymes. Student will accomplish these first two tasks at a 100%
degree by the end of the 2 classes. The next day we will review what we learned about
Dr. Seuss and rhymes and I will spilt the students into 5 groups, give each group a
script of a Dr. Seuss book play, and assign them their character. Before the groups
individually start reading their script, I will read a passage from a Dr. Seuss book to
give an example of reading expression. The students will have 2 days to practice their
scripts and roll playing. I will go to each group and tell them what they have to fix.
Students will also have to practice at home over the weekend. Students will be
expected to be able to accomplish this task at a 100% by Monday. On Monday, students
will practice using a flip camera to record their play. Students will then have assigned
times to record their play. Once group is done they have to work assigned in class. I
will edit each video on my own time. Students will then present their videos to the
class and I will assess each student’s performance individually. Students will have a
peer review sheet for each group and they will have to fill out what they liked and
what they would change about each group’s performance.
