Marcel Duchamp's "Mona Lisa" from 1919 involved taking Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting and adding a mustache and beard that he drew onto a postcard reproduction of the painting. Duchamp's alteration challenged traditional notions of art and aesthetics by taking a culturally iconic work of art and modifying it in a simple yet provocative way. Known as "L.H.O.O.Q." which sounds like the French phrase "Elle a chaud au cul" meaning "She has a hot ass", Duchamp's piece was one of the earliest examples of the artistic movement of Dada that rebelled against social norms.
