This activity is a lead-in to the course project that comes in
Modules 8 and 9. You will be asked to do something similar to
this in another upcoming discussion and then in the course
project at the end of the course.
In a research project, the researcher normally has a research
question in mind and then develops a research methodology that
includes such things as determining the type of data that will be
needed to address the question, how the data will be collected,
and how the data will be analyzed. Due to time constraints, you
will take a different approach to developing a research question.
You will be given data that has already been collected and
asked to develop a possible research question from the data.
For this discussion, open the StatCrunch file
Housing_Prices_Categorical_Factors
. The variables in the file are explained in the file description in
StatCrunch. The following file tells you how to enroll in the
course StatCrunch Group and retrieve group files. You will need
to do that in order to view the Housing Prices file for this
discussion activity.
Look at the description of the variables in the file and the
variables themselves and develop a “research question” that
might be interesting to explore using this data set. Some
examples are:
Is there a difference in average selling price based on whether
the house is on the water front or not?
Do new houses sell for more than old houses? NOTE: For
something like this, you would have to define what you mean by
new and old.
Develop your own research question and post it in the

discussion. Be Creative! Don’t use one of the questions above
and don't use one someone else has already posted. Instead, try
to find something that might be interesting to you. In addition
to posting your question, also tell what method or methods you
would use to answer your question (of those studied so far)

Research Study Type  For DBA students taking BUSI 987 – 990, the Research Study type is a Dissertation  For DBA students taking BUSI 887 – 890, the Research Study type can be either a Case Study Project or a Consulting Project With the dissertation or case study project approach, the student begins by researching the literature to find a problem, develops a research proposal to study the problem, and then finds an organization within which to study the problem. With the consulting project approach, the student begins with an organization with a problem, researches the literature to better understand the problem, and then develops a proposed solution to the problem. In all three cases a problem statement based upon the current literature must be developed. Methodology The methodology is how you will study the problem at a very high level, all research will be conducted using one of the following research approaches:  Fixed Design using Quantitative Methods  Flexible Design using Qualitative Methods  Mixed Method Design using Quantitative and Qualitative Methods Fixed Designs are fully defined (fixed) as part of the research proposal and following the proposal, the researcher executes the research and analysis using quantitative tools as described. Flexible designs on the other hand are defined in a general sense as part of the research proposal and following the proposal, the researcher is free to execute adjust (flexible) the research as is necessary using qualitative tools as described. Mixed Method Designs as the name implies, use a combination of both. The choice of research approach is guided by the research questions. Within each research approach there are specific methods that can be employed. The table below lists the most common methods utilized in the three research approaches. Once selected, the method becomes the methodology or specific ‘research design’ for the study. Taiji HARASHIMA* April, 2017 Abstract The validity of discretionary fiscal policy in a recession will differ according to the cause and mechanism of recession. In this paper, discretionary fiscal policy in a recession caused by a fundamental shock that changes the steady state downwards is examined. In such a recession, households need to discontinuously increase consumption to a point on the saddle path to maintain Pareto efficiency. However, they will not “jump” consumption in this manner and instead will choose a “Nash equilibrium of a Pareto inefficient path” because they dislike unsmooth and discontinuous consumption and behave strategically. The paper concludes that increasing government consumption until demand meets the present level of production and maintaining this fiscal policy for a long period is the best option. Consequent government debts can be sustainable even if they become extremely large.
