Daniel Cornwall completed a discussion module that focused on strengthening competencies and stretching outside his comfort zone. He learned that his LinkedIn profile was out of date and missing details by completing a learning activity on optimizing LinkedIn profiles. Another activity taught him the importance of having strong networking skills and being positive when interacting with others. His implementation plan is to expand his network both inside and outside of work, work on self-awareness when communicating with diverse groups, and update his LinkedIn profile. He believes his critical thinking skills have improved and recognizes their importance for marketing roles. His work term taught him about networking and that relying only one person is not feasible; he now reaches out to more people for assistance.

4. Rock Your LinkedIn Profile
- Upon completing the “rock your LinkedIn profile” from the digital literacy
module, I learned I am not as prepared for my career as I thought.
- As it turns out, there are a numerous elements of my LinkedIn profile
that needed improvement. My employment status, for example—which
hasn’t been updated in several year—was missing several detail
pertaining to my learning experiences. I also learned that a profile
summary is one of the most important element of any LinkedIn, as it
allows employers to get a strong sense of who you are

- This article taught me the importance of having strong networking skills.
In particular, I learned how important it is to remain positive and open-
minded when conversing with people who have different personalities
and opinions.
- As someone who has always been an introvert, I have always found
difficult to develop my social skills.

- I will try to improve my interpersonal skills by expanding the network of
people I communicate and collaborate with, both at and outside of
work.
- I will try to be more self-aware of my emotions when working
communicating with diverse groups. If, for example, I am nervous
around some people, I might spend more time listening to their thoughts
and engaging in the conversation. On the other, if I am comfortable
around a certain group of people, I might try to direct the conversation.
- I also plan on updating my LinkedIn profile, as there it could it can be a
valuable tool to leverage when building industry connections.

8. Competency development
- I believe my critical thinking skills have improved tremendously from this
work term. Each reflective module that I have completed in this course
has provide me with an opportunity to reflect on the various hurdles I
had to overcome, and doing so, helped me become more cognizant of
the skills I must exhibit in order to be successful in my future
endeavours, whether they be work or school-related.
- As an aspiring marketer, I understand that possessing strong critical
thinking skills is imperative more for most marketing roles, so I am glad
that I had the opportunity rigorously exercise my skills during this
course.

9. Learnings from stepping outside of my comfort zone
- Coincidentally, my work term taught me about the importance of
networking. During my first month at work, I was very shy, so much so
that I only reached out to one person when I had a question. Eventually,
when I was tasked with completing more complex projects, I learned
how unfeasible it is to rely solely on the expertise of one person. So, I
eventually mustered the courage to ask other people for assistance with
my assignments. As I began reaching out to different people within my
department, I soon came to the following realization:
- If wish to forge meaningful connection, and propel by career
forward, I have to diversify who interact with on a regular basis.

10. Strengthening my Competencies
- The competencies I would like to develop further are my listening and
adaptability skills. The steps I plan on taking to achieve this are:
1. Try to ask thought-provoking following-up questions to the people
I am interacting with.
2. Always remain optimistic when placed in ambiguous situations
3. Try to spend more time listening before formulating and
articulating my opinion
4. Remain patient when working with neurotic people. Regardless
of a person’s attitude, I should try to avoid interrupting them
when they’re talking.
