This document provides an overview of Impressionism and key Impressionist artists. It discusses how Impressionism began as a rejection of photography's influence on painting and an attempt to capture light, atmosphere, and sensation over specific details. Major Impressionist painters discussed include Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley. The document instructs students to sketch Monet's painting "Lily of the Gardens" and describe the artworks of five Impressionist painters in their notebook.

Significance Of Impressionism
Impressionism was an art movement that emerged in the second half of the 19th
century among a group of Paris-based artists. The duration of the impressionist
movement itself was quite short, less than 20 years from 1872 to the mid-1880s. But
it had a tremendous impact and influence on the painting styles that followed, such as
neo-impressionism, post-impressionism, fauvism, and cubism—and even the artistic
styles and movements of today.
The name impressionism was coined from the title of a work by French painter
Claude Monet, Impression, soleil levant (in English, Impression, Sunrise).

The term precisely captured what this group of artists sought to represent in their
works: the viewer’s momentary “impression” of an image. It was not intended to be
clear or precise, but more like a fleeting fragment of reality caught on canvas,
sometimes in mid-motion, at other times awkwardly positioned—just as it would be
in real life.

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

4. FIRST QUARTER: Lesson 1: Impressionism
Impressionism is a style in painting that
began in France around 1870. It uses spots
of color to show the effects of different kinds
of light and attempts to capture the feeling
of a scene rather than the specific details.
5. Impressionist artists felt the technology
of photography was ruining the art of
painting. They felt the need to create a
new style of painting in which accurate
rendering of the subjects was not the
main focus.
6. The impressionist changed the approach to
painting, by recreating the sensation in the eye
that views the subject rather than recreating the
subject. The public, at first hated the paintings,
then gradually came to believe that the
impressionists had
Captured a fresh and original vision. The art
critics of that time continued to disapprove calling
the paintings unfinished sketches.
7. Dramatic events surrounding the Paris commune (1871)
influenced the social, economic and intellectual realities of
France. The outcome of the commune inspired works both in
literature and fine arts
Stephen Crane a writer that create a method

10. Today the impressionist style is very much alive and
a very successful technique of painting. Though
many artists have painted in the impressionist style,
the following artists were the innovators and
masters of their style.
12. In 1893, Monet, a passionate horticulturist, purchased
land with a pond near his property in Giverny,
intending to build something "for the pleasure of the
eye and also for motifs to paint." The result was his
water-lily garden. In 1899, he began a series of
eighteen views of the wooden footbridge over the
pond, completing twelve paintings, including the
present one, that summer. The vertical format of the
picture, unusual in this series, gives prominence to the
water lilies and their reflections on the pond.
13.
14. Pierre-Auguste Renoir, commonly known
as Auguste Renoir (February 1841 – 3
December 1919), was a French artist who was
a leading painter in the development of
the Impressionist style. As a celebrator of
beauty and especially feminine sensuality, it
has been said that "Renoir is the final
representative of a tradition which runs
directly from Rubens to Watteau.
15.
16. Edgar Degas main-Edgar De Gas, French 19 July 1834 – 27
September 1917) was a French artist famous for his pastel
drawings and oil paintings of ballerinas. Degas also
produced bronze sculptures, prints, and drawings. Degas is
especially identified with the subject of dance; more than
half of his works depict dancers.[3] Although Degas is
regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, he
rejected the term, preferring to be called a realist,[4] and did
not paint outdoors as many Impressionists did. Degas was a
superb draftsman, and particularly masterly in depicting
movement, as can be seen in his rendition of dancers and
bathing female nudes.
17.
18. Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French
Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter.
After a year in Paris, he therefore began to leave
the city and paint scenes. According to one
source, such details were equivalent to today's art
showing garbage cans or beer bottles on the side
of a street.
