Modal verbs such as should, ought to, and had better are used to express opinions, make recommendations, or give advice. Should is used to make recommendations or give advice, while ought to is used to advise, make recommendations, express assumptions or expectations, and convey strong probability. Had better is commonly used to make recommendations or warn people, referring to present or future actions that are thought to be desirable in a specific situation.
