The mobile phone market has continued growing substantially since 2001. By investing in infrastructure like cell phone towers, providers were able to sign up 15% more customers per dollar spent and lower costs. Global mobile subscriptions have increased dramatically from 1990 to 2005, with Asia seeing the largest gains and Europe and the US also experiencing significant growth. While AT&T is a good carrier if willing to pay due to phone selection like the iPhone and reasonably priced plans, their phones are limited to the AT&T network.

The mobile phone market has experienced tremendous growth over the past 15 years. In the early years, high infrastructure costs limited growth but today service revenues exceed operating costs. The number of subscribers has also grown dramatically globally from 1990 to 2005, especially in Asia which grew from 45,000 subscribers to 215 million. Industry projections estimate continued strong growth in the number of subscribers worldwide through 2010.
