APSM on wheels-The mobile version of APSM is the latest improvisation of the traditional plant based plastic separation and slurry composting MSW module. This is effectively a vehicle mounted version of APSM which further improves the cost effectiveness of the whole process of treating MSW.

Problem: A municipal government has agreed to provide once per week waste collection services to a
new residential community of 25,000 people. The city council has hired you to make a preliminary
assessment to determine if they should build and operate a transfer station to support the collection.
For the initial analysis, assume that the community does not have a recycling program. Here is some
of the initial data that the municipal engineer has collected.
* The round trip distance from the residential community to the landfill is 40 miles.
* The size of the residential garbage truck that collects waste from the community is 30 cubic yards.
* The round trip distance from the proposed site of the transfer station will be 45 miles.
* The garbage truck is capable to compact the refuse to 700 lbs./yd3.
* A long haul truck is capable to transport 25 tons of compacted waste per trip.
* The transfer station has a fixed operating cost of $15/ton.
* The cost to operate the garbage truck is $1.50/mile.
* The cost to operate the long haul truck is $0.75/mile.

Plastic waste recycling and proper disposal is a major problem. Approximately 95% of all plastic ever created still exists, and recycling mixed plastic waste is difficult. A solution is needed to effectively recycle plastic waste. Mixed plastic waste can be used to manufacture paver blocks, providing value from waste. A proposed process involves cleaning, grinding, extruding, and molding the mixed plastic into block shapes using machinery. This provides a way to deal with large quantities of plastic waste collected and meets regulations for corporations to properly collect and recycle plastic packaging.

After full operation of secondary treatment at the East and West treatment plants, the future production of sludge from these plants and from Amriya and Agamy secondary treatment plants in addition to the rest 14 secondary treatment plants all around Alexandria is expected to exceed than 1200 m3/d by 2015 thus the capacity if the sludge disposal site should exceed. Therefore, the future sewage sludge management represents a critical environmental issue in Alexandria, this management includes sludge dewatering, handling, transportation cost to the disposal sites and the final product marketing.
As the capacity of Alexandria sludge disposal system will be limited by the increase in sludge production and the current management system, there is an immediate need to investigate ways to establish a future management system and to demonstrate successful operations at higher sludge producing rates.
Currently, Site 9N the sole disposal site in Alexandria include a composting plant established when the site was initially developed as a dedicated disposal area for sludge. Consequently, land spreading of the sludge on the dedicated disposal area has ceased and all of the current production of raw sludge is now being composted using the turned windrow technique.
The present study aims to evaluate the current efficiency of the sludge management system and adopt a future vision for the Alexandria sludge system and recommend modifications to protect public health and environment.

Transfer Station
Problem: A municipal government has agreed to provide once per week waste collection services to a
new residential community of 25,000 people. The city council has hired you to make a preliminary
assessment to determine if they should build and operate a transfer station to support the collection.
For the initial analysis, assume that the community does not have a recycling program. Here is some
of the initial data that the municipal engineer has collected.
* The round trip distance from the residential community to the landfill is 40 miles.
* The size of the residential garbage truck that collects waste from the community is 30 cubic yards.
* The round trip distance from the proposed site of the transfer station will be 45 miles.
* The garbage truck is capable to compact the refuse to 700 lbs./yd3.
* A long haul truck is capable to transport 25 tons of compacted waste per trip.
* The transfer station has a fixed operating cost of $15/ton.
* The cost to operate the garbage truck is $1.50/mile.
* The cost to operate the long haul truck is $0.75/mile.

Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling and Paverblock Manu.pdf
Plastic waste recycling and proper disposal is a major problem. Approximately 95% of all plastic ever created still exists, and recycling mixed plastic waste is difficult. A solution is needed to effectively recycle plastic waste. Mixed plastic waste can be used to manufacture paver blocks, providing value from waste. A proposed process involves cleaning, grinding, extruding, and molding the mixed plastic into block shapes using machinery. This provides a way to deal with large quantities of plastic waste collected and meets regulations for corporations to properly collect and recycle plastic packaging.

After full operation of secondary treatment at the East and West treatment plants, the future production of sludge from these plants and from Amriya and Agamy secondary treatment plants in addition to the rest 14 secondary treatment plants all around Alexandria is expected to exceed than 1200 m3/d by 2015 thus the capacity if the sludge disposal site should exceed. Therefore, the future sewage sludge management represents a critical environmental issue in Alexandria, this management includes sludge dewatering, handling, transportation cost to the disposal sites and the final product marketing.
As the capacity of Alexandria sludge disposal system will be limited by the increase in sludge production and the current management system, there is an immediate need to investigate ways to establish a future management system and to demonstrate successful operations at higher sludge producing rates.
Currently, Site 9N the sole disposal site in Alexandria include a composting plant established when the site was initially developed as a dedicated disposal area for sludge. Consequently, land spreading of the sludge on the dedicated disposal area has ceased and all of the current production of raw sludge is now being composted using the turned windrow technique.
The present study aims to evaluate the current efficiency of the sludge management system and adopt a future vision for the Alexandria sludge system and recommend modifications to protect public health and environment.

- 2. 1 APSM ON WHEELS- THE MOBILE APSM(AUTO PLASTIC SEPARATION MODULE) APSM on wheels-The mobile version of APSM is the latest improvisation of the traditional plant based plastic separation and slurry composting MSW module. This is effectively a vehicle mounted version of APSM which further improves the cost effectiveness of the whole process of treating MSW. APSM on wheels practically nullifies the very requirement of any larger infrastructure for MSW plants, by taking the plant to the source of solid waste generation and completes the entire treatment process without having to transport the garbage to a common plant- which in most cases is located far from the source.
- 3. 2 Following is the basic composition a Mobile APSM unit: 1. Garbage and Water feeding points 2. Conveyor 3. APSM 4. Collection tank- Slurried bio degradables 5. Collection Tanks- Plastic 6. Collection bins for specific waste items. Similar to the Stationary unit, mixed waste (slightly pre-sorted) is fed in to the feeding point (1). Water is sucked in and the fresh garbage is drained in the water at this very stage itself. The conveyor (2) carries the fed waste to a height of six meters and transports it into the APSM(3). Separation of mix waste into bio degradable and non bio degradable happens at this point and the organic particles are slurried and stored in the slurry collection tank (4). Plastic is stored in two
- 4. 3 separate collection tanks and rest of the components are further sent to their respective collection bins. One unit can process 10 Tons of mixed waste before the separated waste load gets unloaded. The bio degradable slurry needs to be fed into decentralized MSW bio gas plants that are to be established at different parts of the city, depending upon the size and population of the city. Once unloaded, the unit can further go to the next common collection point and take the waste from there for processing. APSM on wheel significantly reduces the manpower requirement in the whole process. While a single truck requires 6 persons including a driver to transport 3 tons of garbage to the dump yard, APSM on wheel can completely process 10 tons with 4 persons, including a driver.
