NEVERSTOP
SERVING.
2014 MOAA ANNUAL LETTER PREVIEW
My Fellow Military Officer,
More than 85 years ago, this organization was established to ensure
that our nation’s defense remains strong, that every member of our
nation’s uniformed services has a voice, and that the nation upholds
its commitments made to those who swore an oath to support and
defend the Constitution of the United States.
That’s why, in 2014, MOAA put an extraordinary effort into protecting
these commitments where they stand
most vulnerable: Capitol Hill.
And with your unending support, our collective hard work paid
off—from repealing COLA reductions to everyone’s retirement,
to blocking a proposed $1 billion cut to the Defense Commissary
Agency, to establishing a service that makes VA benefits more
accessible to our veterans.
This was a year of service, and there were many accomplishments
and reasons to take pride, just a few of which you’ll find outlined
in the pages ahead. To read more about what we achieved in 2014, I
encourage you to visit www.moaa.org/2014 today.
But remember, huge challenges remain for those still on watch for the
nation, as well as our membership. The legislative battles taking place
in our nation’s capital present an onslaught of threats to our nation’s
readiness, to our well-being, and to our earned benefits.
Now, more than ever, we must continue to stand together. Now is the
time for us to echo the great promise that we have made to ourselves,
to our community, and to our country. Never Stop Serving.
With My Sincere Gratitude,
VADM Norbert R. Ryan, Jr., USN (Ret)
MOAA President
P.S. I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to MOAA as a
PREMIUM Member. Please consider doing what over 166,000 of your
fellow officers have done and become a LIFE Member today. For your
convenience, a reply and postage-paid envelope are included in this
month’s issue. I look forward to your response.

MONEY WE’VE RAISED
Together in 2014, MOAA, and its
380,000+ members, managed to raise
a considerable amount of funding.
Thanks to the MOAA Scholarship
Fund, more than 1,700 children of
military families were able to pursue
their undergraduate degrees. That’s
$9.3 million in scholarships, grants,
and interest-free loans for military
families nationwide.
In the fall of 2014, MOAA launched
the MOAA Military Family Initiative,
a nonprofit charitable foundation that
helps our nation’s servicemembers and
their families through contributions
to existing beneficial programs. Since
its establishment, the program has
already raised over $350,000.
MOAA is also helping veterans secure
their hard-earned benefits. In its first
year, MOAA’s new VA claims assistance
program successfully recovered more
than $250,000 in disability benefits for
veterans and their families.
BATTLES WE’VE WON
Last year brought many challenges our
way. But with those challenges came
well-deserved victories. Through its
tireless legislative efforts in Washington,
D.C., MOAA’s expert team of lobbyists
was able to repeal the COLA reductions.
They also fought to block the proposed
$1 billion reduction in federal subsidies
to the Defense Commissary Agency. To
see more of MOAA’s legislative wins from
the past year, visit www.moaa.org/2014.
SERVICES WE PROVIDE
MOAA is constantly working to
maintain the products and partnerships
that make daily life easier for our
servicemembers. From discounted travel
to expert financial-planning guidance,
MOAA continues to offer a wide variety
of services tailored to the needs of our
members and their families.
IN 2015, MOAA WILL FIGHT TO REACH OUR TOP LEGISLATIVE GOALS
on issues like
ACTIVE DUTY FORCE SIZE
GUARD RESERVE FORCE SIZE
FAMILY SUPPORT
HEALTH CARE
RETIREE SURVIVOR BENEFITS
VETERANS’ SUPPORT
