1. IMMUNIZATIONS
THE CONVERSATION
S THE
THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTIVE SERVICES
Vaccinating children and young adults
may be the single most important health-promoting
intervention we perform as health care providers. The
recommended vaccines and their schedule given are
the results of years of scientific study.
Vaccine-preventable disease levels are at, or near,
record lows. Even though most infants and toddlers
have received all recommended vaccines by age 2,
many under-immunized children remain, leaving the
potential for outbreaks of disease. (cdc.org)
Immunizations are NOT just for kids! Whether a
young adult, middle-aged adult, or senior citizen,
we ALL need immunizations to keep us healthy.
Transitioning to adulthood brings us into a new
world, bringing a different level of responsibility
that we carry for life, including the need to help
protect our loved ones more than ever.

2. MONITORING
THE CONVERSATION CONVERSATIONS THE
THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTIVE SERVICES
Everybody has and needs blood pressure.
Routinely monitoring your blood pressure is important.
High blood pressure is a symptomless disease. Of all
the people with high blood pressure, over 20 percent
are unaware of their condition.
(American Heart Association, heart.org)
Untreated high blood pressure can damage and weaken
your arteries. There is no healthy level of high blood
pressure. Don't take life-or-death chances with this
disease. Instead, take responsibility! Work with your
healthcare team to determine your treatment goals and
map out your best action plan for HBP prevention and
management.

LAB TESTING
THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTIVE SERVICES
REASONS FOR
ROUTINE
The value of laboratory testing to screen
for certain diseases is an integral part of your health
care plan. Through routine laboratory screening tests,
a diagnosis can be made and a treatment plan can be
developed to help manage certain problems, before
they become an issue.
Routine laboratory testing is also important to
manage current or chronic diseases. The provider
will be able to monitor your disease state and
adjust your treatment plan, if needed.
Some examples of laboratory testing you may need
include: cholesterol testing for screening or patients
with Coronary Artery Disease, HgbA1c testing for
patients with diabetes, etc.
Check with your provider for the lab tests that are
recommended for you!

COLONOSCOPY
Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly
diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer
death in the United States. Over two-thirds of patients are
not diagnosed until the disease has advanced, even though
studies prove that colorectal cancer can be reduced by
early detection and treatment.
(American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org)
If you act early, you have a good chance of preventing
colorectal cancer or finding it when it can be treated
more easily. If your doctor finds polyps inside your
colon during testing, these growths can be removed
before they become cancer. If you find out you have
cancer when you are tested, you can take steps to treat
it right away.

NO BONES
ABOUT IT
A bone density test determines if you have
osteoporosis – a disease that means your bones are
weak and more likely to break. In the past, osteoporosis
could only be detected after you broke a bone.
There are no signs or symptoms of osteoporosis.
You might not know you have the disease until you
break a bone. That’s why it’s so important to get a bone
density test to measure your bone strength, before your
bones become weak.

BE PART OF
THE CURE
A mammogram can help your doctor find
breast cancer early. You have a better chance of
surviving breast cancer if it’s found early.
About 1 in 8 women in the United States will get
breast cancer sometime in her life. After skin cancer,
breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in
women. The good news is that many women can
survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

CERVICAL CANCER
PEACE
OF MIND
Every year in the United States, about 10,000
women get cervical cancer and almost 4,000 women
die from it. But it is the most preventable female cancer
with regular screening tests and early treatment.
(American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org)
A Pap test can find unusual cells before they turn into
cancer. If you find out you have cancer when you are
tested, you can take steps to treat it right away. Most
deaths from cervical cancer could be prevented by
regular Pap tests.
