Mixture of hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) with carnauba straw (Copernicia prunifera) in the productivity of lettuce in the semi-arid region of Brazil
The use of mixtures of organic fertilizers present in the cultivation areas is of paramount importance for farmers who produce in the family farming system, in this sense, the objective was to study the mixture of hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) with carnauba straw (Copernicia prunifera) in the productivity of lettuce in the semi-arid region from Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in the experimental area of the Department of Agronomic and Forestry Sciences. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, with three replications. The first factor consisted of five amounts of the mixture of jitirana with carnauba straw (0.0; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 and 6.0kg m-2 of area), and the second factor for the forms of application to the soil (embedded and cover). The lettuce cultivar planted was crespa, which is widely sold in the semi-arid region of Brazil. The evaluated characteristics were: Plant height, diameter, number of leaves, lettuce production and dry mass. The research results showed that the amount of 4.5kg m contributed to the increase of the evaluated characteristics, with values of 115 and 11.97g plant-1. The use of a mixture of organic fertilizers (hairy woodrose and carnauba straw) was extremely effective in the production of vegetable crops, bringing agronomic advantages to the producer.

This work was conducted at the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, in the Alagoinha district, rural area of Mossoró-RN, from December 2016 to February 2017, with the objective of evaluating the agronomic viability of arugula, functional vegetable under the residual effect of species of the semi-arid region. The experimental design was the complete randomized blocks with treatments arranged in a 5 x 3 factorial scheme, with three replications. The first factor was constituted by four green fertilizer (0.0, 0.8, 1.6, 2.4, 3.2kg m-2 dry basis) and second factor by the types of green fertilizers (Merremia aegyptia, Calotropis procera and Senna uniflora). Initially radish was planted in plots of 1.4 x 1.4m. After the crop was withdrawn, the arugula cultivated Cultivada was planted. The evaluated characteristics were: height and number of leaves per plant, yield; number of sauces and dry matter mass of the aerial part. The best agronomic performance of the arugula was observed in the amount of 2.4kg m-2, with yield of 902.3g m-2 and 30 arugula sauces. Among the types of fertilizers, Merremia aegyptia presented statistical superiority in relation to Calotropis procera and Senna uniflora for yield and number of sauces. The incentive for the cultivation of arugula is important because its benefits are directly related to the farmers who produce and also commercialize, and the consumers who acquire this vegetable.

The mesquite tree (Prosopis laevigata), besides its conventional uses, has a high potential to recover agricultural areas with salinity problems. It improves the physical and chemical properties of the soil, and in the rehabilitation of degraded arid and semi-arid zones, or those tending to desertification.The aim of this research was to test the effect of organic fertilization and inoculation with Glomus sp. on mesquite trees. We did the experiment under greenhouse conditions. The effect of applying Glomus sp. and organic matter in different doses during the growth of shoots and roots was evaluated in 13 agronomic variables in mesquite seedlings grown in Lithosols and Xerosols soils. We used a complete randomized block design with three replications. After 180 days, we analyzed the data using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) version 9.2. We observed a positive and significant effect on the growth of the agronomic variables studied under greenhouse conditions, and inoculation with Glomus sp. The organic matter factor presented significant differences (p ≤ 0.05). We determined that the ideal dose was 55 g per experimental unit. According to the soil used, positive effects (p ≤ 0.05) were observed for 50% of the agronomic variables in the Xerosols soil with relation to the Lithosols soil. We concluded that the inoculation of Prosopis laevigata with Glomus sp., and adding organic matter favors the growth of both the shots and the roots of the plant.

Soil is a wonderful gift of nature for living creatures. It supports crop growth. It is an important environmental factor, and has a close reciprocal relationship with the plants growing in it and the soil microbes that exist in it. The forest soil consists of high humus with variety of microbes. In this experiment forest area of Newasa was selected for evaluation of nutrient status and bacterial population. On the basis of density of grasses Iseilema prostratum L, Setaria pumila (Poir.) Roem. & Schult, Aristida hystrix L., Dactyloctenium aegyptium (L.) Willd, Fimbriristylis miliacea (L.) Vahl. were selected. 100 soil samples from different locations from rhizosphere of these monocots were collected and analyzed for soil nutrient status and nitrogen fixing bacterial population. It was recorded that, out of five plants, the rhizosphere soil of Setaria pumila L. showed maximum bacterial population (11700540.00). Available nitrogen (320 kg/ha) and % organic carbon (0.60 %) followed by Setaria pumila (Poir.) Roem. & Schult the bacterial population was (2558265.00), available nitrogen (203 Kg/ha) and % Organic Carbon (0.59%). Other soil nutrients were also measured.

Cassava is an important food crop cultivated (75%) by smallholder farmers. However, yields are very low and rarely exceed 17tons/ha-1. A study was carried out at Nkolbisson in the humid forest zone (HFZ) of Cameroon to assess the effect of three types of biochar issued from Cassava (CSb), Ricehusk (RHb), and Corncob (CCb) on the root yield of variety 8034 cassava cultivated along a soil fertility gradient. The biochars were produced using an Elsa pyrolysis technology with carbonisation time of 50-58mins and temperature ranging from 400-6500C. Twelve 8m2 plots were constructed in three sites from the higher elevated, moderately elevated and flat fields.The biochars were applied at 20t.ha-1in three replicationsin a completely randomized design.Results showed that the biochars were high in nutrients containing 4.17-18.15g.kg-1 N, 22.26-42.51 mg.kg-1 P, 2.48-4.18 cmol.kg-1 K and pH (H2O: 7.78-10.81) and were significantly higher than the no-input soil containing 0.79g.kg-1 N, 7.41mg.kg-1 P, 1.42 cmol.kg-1 K and pH (5.68). Cassava root yield was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in RHb plots (23.22 t.ha-1) than CCb (20.53 t.ha-1), CSb (18.67 t.ha-1) and the no-input soil (16.13 t.ha-1). The addition of biochar particularly RHb, increasednutrient uptake in cassava leaves and roots compared with theno-input soil. The study concludes that biochars with higher N, Pand K content tend to increase cassava root yield and suggestsincreasing the quantity of biochar to 40t/ha-1or continuous application in combination with other farming options such as poultry manure, compost or mineral fertilizer tomaximize cassava productivity given the benefits of biochar.

Mesquite (Prosopis laevigata) is a tree of arid and semi-arid areas of northern and central Mexico. This species allows erosion control, atmospheric nitrogen fixation, and improves soil quality. Pseudomonas fluorescens is a rhizobacterium that favors plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Also, promotes seed germination and development of Mesquite plants under adverse environmental conditions. The aim is to evaluate the role of bacterial strains A7 and Sv of P. fluorescens, using two types of soil (vertisol and phaeozem), and adding vermicompost (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 tons/ha) in the germination and growth stages of mesquite (Prosopis laevigata).We tested the characteristics developed by the plants over 180 days. A randomized experimental design with four repetitions was used to test the seed germination rate and 16 more variables in the greenhouse, such as morphology, dry biomass accumulated, and morphological indices through the randomized factorial experimental design with three factors, 2x3x5x3. Regarding the control treatment, the use of the bacterial strain A7 of P. fluorescens inhibited the germination of mesquite seeds, while the strain Sv favored seedlings development. We observed opposite effects; inhibition and growth in the germination stage, and development of the seedlings observed at 180 days when using the A7 and Sv strains of P. fluorescens.

In this study, we tested the growth of two varieties of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) cultivated in two types of soils and the effects of the inoculation of seeds with cells of bacterial strains and vermicompost. (H. sabdariffa) are a member of the Malvaceae family and an important plant because its calyxes are used to produce beverages, prepare food, in the textile industry, cosmetology, perfumery, medicine, etc. This research was carried out at the Postgraduate College, Montecillo Campus, Mexico. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with a factorial arrangement (4x3x2): four levels of organic matter factor, three levels of bacterial strains factor, and two levels of soil factor with three repetitions. The variables tested were: germination percentage (GP), plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), the number of leaves (NL), foliar area (FA cm 2), radical volume (RV cm 3), dry aerial part biomass weight (DAPBW), dry root biomass weight (DRBW), dry calyx biomass weight (DCBW) and chlorophyll content (CC). The effects of soil and bacterial strains showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) on the agronomic characteristics of (H. sabdariffa) plants. The organic matter factor only presented significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in the germination percentage and growth variables of the vegetative phase. To increase crop production, the use of wastewater and microorganisms is proposed. Vermicompost exploded the percentage of germination, height, the number of leaves and stem diameter during the first weeks of growth, presenting important results in Creole variety (farmers' local variety). By inoculating seeds with cells of bacterial strains, A9m and A7 helped significantly to stimulate plant growth, finding a better response in A9m strain. The effects of soil factor showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in soil irrigated with residual water over agronomic characteristics satisfying the nutritional requirements of the crop.

Investigation of Correlation Coefficient for Forage and Grain Yield with Rela...Premier Publishers
Oat (Avena sativa L.) is a staple worldwide in both human and animal nutrition. It is mainly grown for livestock, depending on its grain and forage yield in Turkey. This study was based on defining correlation coefficients of some oat genotypes (nine lines and three cultivars) in Konya, Turkey, among fodder and grain yields, and their components. The experimental design of this study was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The correlations were analyzed after harvesting at milk to dough period. The findings illustrated that there was a significant positive correlation between green fodder yield and leaf weights in ten stems, and grain yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter. The highest negative correlations was found between green fodder yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter, and grain yield and 50% flowering periods in addition to green fodder yield. This research suggests that the number of panicles stems per square meter and dry fodder yield would be selection criteria for grain yield. The number of leaves per stem, the number of nodes, and plant height would also be considered for green fodder yield by oat breeders in their program in Anatolia.

producing safe and clean products. For this purpose, by using natural materials like
algae on the beach, organic and environmentally friendly fertilizer was prepared. In
this investigation effect of Seaweed Liquid Fertilizer (SLF) of Ulva fasciata at
concentrations of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% on some parameters of wheat
(Triticum aestivum var. chamran) has been investigated. Based on the results, above
algae can be used as a food supplement solution in the form of foliar spray at 2.5%
concentration with a significant increase in morphological and biochemical indices.
Bioremediating Effect of Glomus Hoi and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa on the Organic...IJEAB
This study analyzed the degrading effect of Glomus hoi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the organic content and heavy metals of oil refinery effluent polluted soil using Amaranthus cruentus as the test plant. This study was carried out to determine if agricultural activities can be improved using any or both of the micoorganisms. Eight different treatment layouts were used with three replicates for each level of pollution in the treatment layout. Ninety six (96) pots, each containing three kilograms of soil from both sterilized and unsterilized soil were used for the study. Fifty (50) grams of soil inoculum from propagated Arbuscular mycorrhiza was inoculated to a set of twenty four (24) experimental pots containing both sterilized and unsterilized soil before A. cruentus seedlings were transplanted to them. Another set of twenty four (24) pots containing both sterilized and unsterilized soil were injected with thirty (30) mL of P. aeruginosa inoculum solution before transplanting A. cruentus seedlings to them. The third set of twenty four (24) pots received dual inoculation of both fifty (50) grams of soil inoculum containing G. hoi and thirty (30) mL of P. aeruginosa inoculum solution before A. cruentus were transplanted to them. The residual twenty four (24) pots served as the control. Thereafter, pot preparation was arranged in the screenhouse in a randomized block design. The A. cruentus seedlings were raised in nursery for a period of two weeks before they were transplanted to the pots, seedlings were left for 3 days to overcome transplanting shock before contaminating the soil with refinery effluent at various concentrations of 0%, 2%, 4% and 6% v/w. The seedlings were allowed to grow for eight weeks before the termination of the experiment. The pre planting analysis of soil showed that heavy metals analyses (zinc and iron) of sterilized soil had a lower concentration to the unsterilized. The soil pH ranged from 6.3 to 6.8. It also revealed that organic matter and organic carbon content ranged from 0.8% to 1.3% and 0.4% to 1.7%. However, after the experiment, it was discovered in this study that treatments without any microorganism inoculation in sterilized and unsterilized soil had a higher level of % organic carbon and % organic matter content compared to the other treatments that were inoculated with one or two micro-organisms across all the levels of effluent concentration. Heavy metals of soil in all the soil samples were found to increase as the petrochemical effluent increased in concentration. The results obtained were analyzed using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) and other descriptive statistics. This study opined that the combined use of G. hoi and P. aeruginosa was more effective in improving the organic contentand the reduce heavy metals of oil refinery effluent polluted soil than when either is used singly.
Effect of Different Weed Control Practices On Proximate Composition, Nutrient...IOSRJAVS
A field experiment was conducted during 2004 and 2005 cropping seasons to determine effect of different weed control practices on proximate composition, nutrient concentration and nutrient uptake of maize (Zea maysL.) at the Teaching and Research Farm of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria. Seven treatments were used for the experiment, viz no weeding (control), Primextra (3.0kg a.i./ha), mulching (wood shavings), one- hoe weeding at 3 weeks after planting (WAP), two hoe- weedings at 3 and 7 WAP, cover cropping with melon minus hoe-weeding, cover-cropping with melon plus one hoe-weeding at 3WAP. The seven treatments were laid out in randomized complete block design with four replicates. Results showed that mulched plot with wood shavings had the lowest weed density and highest proximate composition, grain nutrient concentration, ear leaf concentration and nutrient uptake followed by Primextra treated plot .The study recommends that small holder farmers to adopt mulching technique with wood shaving to improve the nutritional quality of maize grain since it does not involve any technical rigor besides signifying a non-chemical weed control.

To investigate the maize yield and nutrient concentration in its leaves as affected by biochar from different organic materials (wheat straw and sugarcane bagasse), a field experiment was conducted on maize crop during 2013 at koont research farm chakwal. The treatments were control, wheat straw biochar at 5t ha-1, and 10t ha-1, sugarcane bagasse biochar at 5t ha-1and 10t ha-1. The experiment was conducted in RCBD. Maize was grown in 4m × 6m sized plots. Soil samples were taken before sowing of crop for determination of soil pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon and texture. The plant parameters were grain yield, plant biomass, macro nutrients and micro nutrients. Wheat straw biochar 10 t/ha showed an increase of 16.1% N, 38.8% P, 33% K, 28.9% biomass and 20.8% grain yield. Sugarcane bagasse biochar at a rate of 10 t/ha showed significant increase of 14.9% N, 27.7% P, 30% K, 27.6% biomass and 22.1% grain yield. None of the biochar treatment showed any significant increase in micronutrient concentration in the plant.

To investigate the maize yield and nutrient concentration in its leaves as affected by biochar from different organic materials (wheat straw and sugarcane bagasse), a field experiment was conducted on maize crop during 2013 at koont research farm chakwal. The treatments were control, wheat straw biochar at 5t ha-1, and 10t ha-1, sugarcane bagasse biochar at 5t ha-1and 10t ha-1. The experiment was conducted in RCBD. Maize was grown in 4m × 6m sized plots. Soil samples were taken before sowing of crop for determination of soil pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon and texture. The plant parameters were grain yield, plant biomass, macro nutrients and micro nutrients. Wheat straw biochar 10 t/ha showed an increase of 16.1% N, 38.8% P, 33% K, 28.9% biomass and 20.8% grain yield. Sugarcane bagasse biochar at a rate of 10 t/ha showed significant increase of 14.9% N, 27.7% P, 30% K, 27.6% biomass and 22.1% grain yield. None of the biochar treatment showed any significant increase in micronutrient concentration in plant.
Jatropha-based alley cropping system’s contribution to carbon sequestrationInnspub Net
The study was conducted to evaluate the total carbon stocks sequestered in a Jatropha – based alley cropping system treated with varying fertilizer applications. The study was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The alley was planted with corn in two seasons Treatments include control (no fertilizer), organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer applied to the alley crops. Findings showed that the treatments with fertilizer applications had higher carbon stock in the jatropha hedges. The carbon content of the corn stover was also higher in organic and inorganic fertilizer-applied treatments. However, highest soil carbon content was shown in treatments applied with organic fertilizer (4.28 Ton ha-1). The inorganic fertilizer treatment had the lowest soil carbon content with a mean of 4.28 Ton ha-1. In terms of total carbon stock of the entire jatropha-based alley cropping system, there was a significant difference among treatments with organic fertilizer application having the highest mean of 7.79 Ton ha-1 while the inorganic treated plots had 6.53 Ton ha-1. The no fertilizer treatment had the least carbon stocks with 6.53 Ton ha-1. This recent study revealed that the jatropha-based alley cropping system is a potential land-use for carbon sequestration. This farming system needs to be promoted in upland areas to function not only as soil and water conservation measures but also as a possible remedy for global warming. Fertility Levels of Soils under Selected Tree Vegetations for Efficient Agro-...AI Publications
In many parts of Nigeria, large areas of lands are dominated by tree crop vegetations for timber production and for fruits with land users not knowing the fertility status of soils in these vegetations. Continual evaluation of soil properties of these tree vegetations has become pertinent for agricultural sustainability. This study therefore was carried out to evaluate the fertility levels of soils under selected tree vegetations at National Horticultural Research Institute Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria. Five tree vegetations that were over 20 years of establishment were selected namely: oil bean (Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth), African breadfruit (Treculia africana), mango (Mangnifera indica), Ogbonu (Irvingia gabonensis) and orange (citrus spp). In each of these tree vegetations, four soil samples were collected at uniform depths (0 – 20, 20 – 40 and 40 – 60 cm) at different locations using soil auger. The samples were analyzed using standard laboratory procedures. Data collected were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance. Results obtained showed that despite the ages of these vegetations, the soils were acidic, low in macronutrient and basic cation concentrations when compared to FAO standard. The highest exchangeable bases and organic matter (1.78%) was recorded on bread fruit vegetation. Therefore, there is need to increase the fertility status of these soils in these tree crop vegetations by adopting measures that will boost organic matter content of the soil irrespective of the duration of the vegetation and this will help in agro forestry and alley cropping.

Abstract— The arrowroot starch is much appreciated in the preparation of desserts, breads, cookies and cakes. However the production of starch by the commercial varieties is still made in an amateur way without proper management. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design in factorial 3 (rhizomes sizes) x 2 (substrates). The three rhizome sizes arrowroot, were classified as small (≤ 15.0 g), medium (≥ 15.01 and ≤ 30.0) and big (≥ 30.01 g) according to their weights. We evaluated: height collect from the region to the apex of the leaf, stem diameter at the collar region survival percentage of rhizomes, shoot dry weight, root dry mass, average number of seedlings per rhizome and calculated the index quality seedlings Dickson. There were no differences in the interaction between plants x substrate. However the size of rhizomes influenced the quality of the seedlings, and the big (≥ 30.01 g) rhizomes was what produced seedlings with the best quality.

A study was conducted at Bina Sub-station Nalitabari, Sherpur Farm from June to October 2022 to investigate the effect of combining organic and inorganic fertilizers on rice growth and yield. It followed a randomized block design with three replications and a unit plot size of 3m×4m.The experiment consisted of five treatments: T1 100% STB (N90P15K75S12Zn2), T2 (85% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), T3 (85% CF+ 4t/ha vermicompost), T4 (70% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), and T5 (70% CF+ 2t/ha vermicompost). The objective was to assess their impact on the growth, yield, and yield-contributing characteristics of the BINAdhan-17 rice variety. The study found that combining inorganic fertilizer with 2t/ha of vermicompost resulted in the highest yield. Chemical fertilizer (CF) with organic sources increased yield. The tallest plants were in T1 (104.9cm), while the shortest was in T4. The highest grain yield was in T3 (5.9t/ha), and lowest in T4 (4.7t/ha).When combining 4t/ha of vermicompost with 85% CF (77kg N, 13kg P, 64kg K, 12kg S, 2kg Zn), the parameters of tillers per plant, panicle length, filled grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, and straw yield were maximized.Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Using high-quality rice varieties and incorporating compost, alone or with chemical fertilizers, increases yields compared to full inorganic fertilizer. The study emphasizes the importance of judicious organic and chemical fertilizer application for significantly enhancing rice yields.

To evaluate the high-grade breast cancer morphological complexity on mammogram. We conducted a retrospective study using an open source data got from figshare repository. These anonymized data were collected and used for a study approved by the institutional review board. Cranio-Caudal and Medio-lateral mammograms and their tumor segmented images from 66 patients subdivided in two groups high histological grade (n=23) low-grade (low and intermediate, n=41). From breast cancer image segmentation, we extracted fractal dimension using Fraclac, plugin of ImageJ software based on box-counting method. For our analysis we used comparatively the fractal dimension from cranio-caudal (CC) and medio-lateral (MLO) images. We summarized the fractal dimension of our cohort using boxplot and performed the Wilcoxon non-parametric statistic for fractal dimension comparison of two groups (High-grade and low-grade). There was not difference between CC (mean ± std= 1.1583±0.067) andmLO (mean ± std =1.1551±0.055) breast cancer fractal dimension. For the high-grade differentiation, CC andmLO images fractal dimension were contributed respectively at a little difference but without statistically difference (P value=0.438 and 0.435). High-grade fractal dimensions mean were respectively 1.142±0.044 and 1.144±0.075 for CC andmLO images against 1.166±0.050 and 1.160±0.057 for low-grade. It had been recorded a lower mean value of fractal dimension for high-grade breast cancer without statistically significant. This finding shows that the high-grade breast cancer tends to have a regular shape.

A local inflammatory syndrome is characterized by a classic semiological tetrad: pain, swelling, redness and heat. These signs are easily observed when the inflammation concerns the skin or an adjacent tissue. Throughout this study, the aim was to characterize chronic inflammation in smokers using two parameters, rate of erythrocytes sedimentation (RES) and C – reactive protein (CRP). Our study was done on a sample of 35 smoking subjects, composed of men and women. The CRP measurement o was carried out using a CRP-Latex agglutination test which detects only serum CRP levels around 6mg/L. The technique used for the RES measurement is that of Westergreen. From the results, we observed that 31% of our sample presented a positive CRP and a high RES against 40% having regular CRP and RES. The gender of the subject did not play a role in the results obtained. On the other hand, a significant difference (p = 0.031) in CRP was observed between subjects with normal RES and those with high RES. Therefore, these results make it difficult to confirm that RES and CRP can be used as reliable markers for the characterization of inflammation linked to smoking.

Cassava is an important food crop cultivated (75%) by smallholder farmers. However, yields are very low and rarely exceed 17tons/ha-1. A study was carried out at Nkolbisson in the humid forest zone (HFZ) of Cameroon to assess the effect of three types of biochar issued from Cassava (CSb), Ricehusk (RHb), and Corncob (CCb) on the root yield of variety 8034 cassava cultivated along a soil fertility gradient. The biochars were produced using an Elsa pyrolysis technology with carbonisation time of 50-58mins and temperature ranging from 400-6500C. Twelve 8m2 plots were constructed in three sites from the higher elevated, moderately elevated and flat fields.The biochars were applied at 20t.ha-1in three replicationsin a completely randomized design.Results showed that the biochars were high in nutrients containing 4.17-18.15g.kg-1 N, 22.26-42.51 mg.kg-1 P, 2.48-4.18 cmol.kg-1 K and pH (H2O: 7.78-10.81) and were significantly higher than the no-input soil containing 0.79g.kg-1 N, 7.41mg.kg-1 P, 1.42 cmol.kg-1 K and pH (5.68). Cassava root yield was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in RHb plots (23.22 t.ha-1) than CCb (20.53 t.ha-1), CSb (18.67 t.ha-1) and the no-input soil (16.13 t.ha-1). The addition of biochar particularly RHb, increasednutrient uptake in cassava leaves and roots compared with theno-input soil. The study concludes that biochars with higher N, Pand K content tend to increase cassava root yield and suggestsincreasing the quantity of biochar to 40t/ha-1or continuous application in combination with other farming options such as poultry manure, compost or mineral fertilizer tomaximize cassava productivity given the benefits of biochar.

Mesquite (Prosopis laevigata) is a tree of arid and semi-arid areas of northern and central Mexico. This species allows erosion control, atmospheric nitrogen fixation, and improves soil quality. Pseudomonas fluorescens is a rhizobacterium that favors plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Also, promotes seed germination and development of Mesquite plants under adverse environmental conditions. The aim is to evaluate the role of bacterial strains A7 and Sv of P. fluorescens, using two types of soil (vertisol and phaeozem), and adding vermicompost (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 tons/ha) in the germination and growth stages of mesquite (Prosopis laevigata).We tested the characteristics developed by the plants over 180 days. A randomized experimental design with four repetitions was used to test the seed germination rate and 16 more variables in the greenhouse, such as morphology, dry biomass accumulated, and morphological indices through the randomized factorial experimental design with three factors, 2x3x5x3. Regarding the control treatment, the use of the bacterial strain A7 of P. fluorescens inhibited the germination of mesquite seeds, while the strain Sv favored seedlings development. We observed opposite effects; inhibition and growth in the germination stage, and development of the seedlings observed at 180 days when using the A7 and Sv strains of P. fluorescens.

In this study, we tested the growth of two varieties of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) cultivated in two types of soils and the effects of the inoculation of seeds with cells of bacterial strains and vermicompost. (H. sabdariffa) are a member of the Malvaceae family and an important plant because its calyxes are used to produce beverages, prepare food, in the textile industry, cosmetology, perfumery, medicine, etc. This research was carried out at the Postgraduate College, Montecillo Campus, Mexico. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with a factorial arrangement (4x3x2): four levels of organic matter factor, three levels of bacterial strains factor, and two levels of soil factor with three repetitions. The variables tested were: germination percentage (GP), plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), the number of leaves (NL), foliar area (FA cm 2), radical volume (RV cm 3), dry aerial part biomass weight (DAPBW), dry root biomass weight (DRBW), dry calyx biomass weight (DCBW) and chlorophyll content (CC). The effects of soil and bacterial strains showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) on the agronomic characteristics of (H. sabdariffa) plants. The organic matter factor only presented significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in the germination percentage and growth variables of the vegetative phase. To increase crop production, the use of wastewater and microorganisms is proposed. Vermicompost exploded the percentage of germination, height, the number of leaves and stem diameter during the first weeks of growth, presenting important results in Creole variety (farmers' local variety). By inoculating seeds with cells of bacterial strains, A9m and A7 helped significantly to stimulate plant growth, finding a better response in A9m strain. The effects of soil factor showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in soil irrigated with residual water over agronomic characteristics satisfying the nutritional requirements of the crop.

Investigation of Correlation Coefficient for Forage and Grain Yield with Rela...Premier Publishers
Oat (Avena sativa L.) is a staple worldwide in both human and animal nutrition. It is mainly grown for livestock, depending on its grain and forage yield in Turkey. This study was based on defining correlation coefficients of some oat genotypes (nine lines and three cultivars) in Konya, Turkey, among fodder and grain yields, and their components. The experimental design of this study was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The correlations were analyzed after harvesting at milk to dough period. The findings illustrated that there was a significant positive correlation between green fodder yield and leaf weights in ten stems, and grain yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter. The highest negative correlations was found between green fodder yield and the number of panicles stems per square meter, and grain yield and 50% flowering periods in addition to green fodder yield. This research suggests that the number of panicles stems per square meter and dry fodder yield would be selection criteria for grain yield. The number of leaves per stem, the number of nodes, and plant height would also be considered for green fodder yield by oat breeders in their program in Anatolia.

concentrations of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% on some parameters of wheat
(Triticum aestivum var. chamran) has been investigated. Based on the results, above
algae can be used as a food supplement solution in the form of foliar spray at 2.5%
concentration with a significant increase in morphological and biochemical indices.

This study analyzed the degrading effect of Glomus hoi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the organic content and heavy metals of oil refinery effluent polluted soil using Amaranthus cruentus as the test plant. This study was carried out to determine if agricultural activities can be improved using any or both of the micoorganisms. Eight different treatment layouts were used with three replicates for each level of pollution in the treatment layout. Ninety six (96) pots, each containing three kilograms of soil from both sterilized and unsterilized soil were used for the study. Fifty (50) grams of soil inoculum from propagated Arbuscular mycorrhiza was inoculated to a set of twenty four (24) experimental pots containing both sterilized and unsterilized soil before A. cruentus seedlings were transplanted to them. Another set of twenty four (24) pots containing both sterilized and unsterilized soil were injected with thirty (30) mL of P. aeruginosa inoculum solution before transplanting A. cruentus seedlings to them. The third set of twenty four (24) pots received dual inoculation of both fifty (50) grams of soil inoculum containing G. hoi and thirty (30) mL of P. aeruginosa inoculum solution before A. cruentus were transplanted to them. The residual twenty four (24) pots served as the control. Thereafter, pot preparation was arranged in the screenhouse in a randomized block design. The A. cruentus seedlings were raised in nursery for a period of two weeks before they were transplanted to the pots, seedlings were left for 3 days to overcome transplanting shock before contaminating the soil with refinery effluent at various concentrations of 0%, 2%, 4% and 6% v/w. The seedlings were allowed to grow for eight weeks before the termination of the experiment. The pre planting analysis of soil showed that heavy metals analyses (zinc and iron) of sterilized soil had a lower concentration to the unsterilized. The soil pH ranged from 6.3 to 6.8. It also revealed that organic matter and organic carbon content ranged from 0.8% to 1.3% and 0.4% to 1.7%. However, after the experiment, it was discovered in this study that treatments without any microorganism inoculation in sterilized and unsterilized soil had a higher level of % organic carbon and % organic matter content compared to the other treatments that were inoculated with one or two micro-organisms across all the levels of effluent concentration. Heavy metals of soil in all the soil samples were found to increase as the petrochemical effluent increased in concentration. The results obtained were analyzed using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) and other descriptive statistics. This study opined that the combined use of G. hoi and P. aeruginosa was more effective in improving the organic contentand the reduce heavy metals of oil refinery effluent polluted soil than when either is used singly.
Effect of Different Weed Control Practices On Proximate Composition, Nutrient...IOSRJAVS
A field experiment was conducted during 2004 and 2005 cropping seasons to determine effect of different weed control practices on proximate composition, nutrient concentration and nutrient uptake of maize (Zea maysL.) at the Teaching and Research Farm of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria. Seven treatments were used for the experiment, viz no weeding (control), Primextra (3.0kg a.i./ha), mulching (wood shavings), one- hoe weeding at 3 weeks after planting (WAP), two hoe- weedings at 3 and 7 WAP, cover cropping with melon minus hoe-weeding, cover-cropping with melon plus one hoe-weeding at 3WAP. The seven treatments were laid out in randomized complete block design with four replicates. Results showed that mulched plot with wood shavings had the lowest weed density and highest proximate composition, grain nutrient concentration, ear leaf concentration and nutrient uptake followed by Primextra treated plot .The study recommends that small holder farmers to adopt mulching technique with wood shaving to improve the nutritional quality of maize grain since it does not involve any technical rigor besides signifying a non-chemical weed control.

In terms of total carbon stock of the entire jatropha-based alley cropping system, there was a significant difference among treatments with organic fertilizer application having the highest mean of 7.79 Ton ha-1 while the inorganic treated plots had 6.53 Ton ha-1. The no fertilizer treatment had the least carbon stocks with 6.53 Ton ha-1. This recent study revealed that the jatropha-based alley cropping system is a potential land-use for carbon sequestration. This farming system needs to be promoted in upland areas to function not only as soil and water conservation measures but also as a possible remedy for global warming. Fertility Levels of Soils under Selected Tree Vegetations for Efficient Agro-...AI Publications
In many parts of Nigeria, large areas of lands are dominated by tree crop vegetations for timber production and for fruits with land users not knowing the fertility status of soils in these vegetations. Continual evaluation of soil properties of these tree vegetations has become pertinent for agricultural sustainability. This study therefore was carried out to evaluate the fertility levels of soils under selected tree vegetations at National Horticultural Research Institute Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria. Five tree vegetations that were over 20 years of establishment were selected namely: oil bean (Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth), African breadfruit (Treculia africana), mango (Mangnifera indica), Ogbonu (Irvingia gabonensis) and orange (citrus spp). In each of these tree vegetations, four soil samples were collected at uniform depths (0 – 20, 20 – 40 and 40 – 60 cm) at different locations using soil auger. The samples were analyzed using standard laboratory procedures. Data collected were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance. Results obtained showed that despite the ages of these vegetations, the soils were acidic, low in macronutrient and basic cation concentrations when compared to FAO standard. The highest exchangeable bases and organic matter (1.78%) was recorded on bread fruit vegetation. Therefore, there is need to increase the fertility status of these soils in these tree crop vegetations by adopting measures that will boost organic matter content of the soil irrespective of the duration of the vegetation and this will help in agro forestry and alley cropping.

Abstract— The arrowroot starch is much appreciated in the preparation of desserts, breads, cookies and cakes. However the production of starch by the commercial varieties is still made in an amateur way without proper management. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design in factorial 3 (rhizomes sizes) x 2 (substrates). The three rhizome sizes arrowroot, were classified as small (≤ 15.0 g), medium (≥ 15.01 and ≤ 30.0) and big (≥ 30.01 g) according to their weights. We evaluated: height collect from the region to the apex of the leaf, stem diameter at the collar region survival percentage of rhizomes, shoot dry weight, root dry mass, average number of seedlings per rhizome and calculated the index quality seedlings Dickson. There were no differences in the interaction between plants x substrate. However the size of rhizomes influenced the quality of the seedlings, and the big (≥ 30.01 g) rhizomes was what produced seedlings with the best quality.

A study was conducted at Bina Sub-station Nalitabari, Sherpur Farm from June to October 2022 to investigate the effect of combining organic and inorganic fertilizers on rice growth and yield. It followed a randomized block design with three replications and a unit plot size of 3m×4m.The experiment consisted of five treatments: T1 100% STB (N90P15K75S12Zn2), T2 (85% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), T3 (85% CF+ 4t/ha vermicompost), T4 (70% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), and T5 (70% CF+ 2t/ha vermicompost). The objective was to assess their impact on the growth, yield, and yield-contributing characteristics of the BINAdhan-17 rice variety. The study found that combining inorganic fertilizer with 2t/ha of vermicompost resulted in the highest yield. Chemical fertilizer (CF) with organic sources increased yield. The tallest plants were in T1 (104.9cm), while the shortest was in T4. The highest grain yield was in T3 (5.9t/ha), and lowest in T4 (4.7t/ha).When combining 4t/ha of vermicompost with 85% CF (77kg N, 13kg P, 64kg K, 12kg S, 2kg Zn), the parameters of tillers per plant, panicle length, filled grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, and straw yield were maximized.Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Using high-quality rice varieties and incorporating compost, alone or with chemical fertilizers, increases yields compared to full inorganic fertilizer. The study emphasizes the importance of judicious organic and chemical fertilizer application for significantly enhancing rice yields.

To evaluate the high-grade breast cancer morphological complexity on mammogram. We conducted a retrospective study using an open source data got from figshare repository. These anonymized data were collected and used for a study approved by the institutional review board. Cranio-Caudal and Medio-lateral mammograms and their tumor segmented images from 66 patients subdivided in two groups high histological grade (n=23) low-grade (low and intermediate, n=41). From breast cancer image segmentation, we extracted fractal dimension using Fraclac, plugin of ImageJ software based on box-counting method. For our analysis we used comparatively the fractal dimension from cranio-caudal (CC) and medio-lateral (MLO) images. We summarized the fractal dimension of our cohort using boxplot and performed the Wilcoxon non-parametric statistic for fractal dimension comparison of two groups (High-grade and low-grade). There was not difference between CC (mean ± std= 1.1583±0.067) andmLO (mean ± std =1.1551±0.055) breast cancer fractal dimension. For the high-grade differentiation, CC andmLO images fractal dimension were contributed respectively at a little difference but without statistically difference (P value=0.438 and 0.435). High-grade fractal dimensions mean were respectively 1.142±0.044 and 1.144±0.075 for CC andmLO images against 1.166±0.050 and 1.160±0.057 for low-grade. It had been recorded a lower mean value of fractal dimension for high-grade breast cancer without statistically significant. This finding shows that the high-grade breast cancer tends to have a regular shape.

A local inflammatory syndrome is characterized by a classic semiological tetrad: pain, swelling, redness and heat. These signs are easily observed when the inflammation concerns the skin or an adjacent tissue. Throughout this study, the aim was to characterize chronic inflammation in smokers using two parameters, rate of erythrocytes sedimentation (RES) and C – reactive protein (CRP). Our study was done on a sample of 35 smoking subjects, composed of men and women. The CRP measurement o was carried out using a CRP-Latex agglutination test which detects only serum CRP levels around 6mg/L. The technique used for the RES measurement is that of Westergreen. From the results, we observed that 31% of our sample presented a positive CRP and a high RES against 40% having regular CRP and RES. The gender of the subject did not play a role in the results obtained. On the other hand, a significant difference (p = 0.031) in CRP was observed between subjects with normal RES and those with high RES. Therefore, these results make it difficult to confirm that RES and CRP can be used as reliable markers for the characterization of inflammation linked to smoking.

Mortality rate of children under the age of five has reduced worldwide, but still the probability of a child dying before the age of five is greatest in underdeveloped countries. Pakistan reports child mortality rates in same bracket as other South Asian countries due to malnutrition and diarrhea. To determine the prevalence and factors associated in children less than five years of age a cross sectional study was conducted with mothers whose children were admitted in pediatric government Hospital, Lahore. A convenient sample of 101 children (6-59 months, 53 males and 48 females) suffering from malnutrition and diarrhea were selected from hospital. Data about socio demographic, anthropometric, clinical and dietary variables were collected and analyzed by using SPSS version 16. The results showed that mean age of patients was 19.36 ± 10.5 months. The illiteracy rate among mother and father of patients was 94.1% and 69.3% respectively. 94.1% of the patients were breastfed while 47.5% of the patients were on bottle feed with breast milk. 66.3% patients families has very low-income rate while 33.7% were satisfactory. 40.6% patients were not vaccinated against immunization. Out of 101 patients, 39.6% of the patients had diarrhea while 6.9% of the patients had chronic diarrhea. The prevalence rate of diarrhea (39%) was less among children who were younger than 18 months as compared to those who were above 18 months (40.5%). The most significant factors that caused the incidence of diarrhea in children was form of water storage system, complementary feeding practices, and hand wash cleaning materials. This study concluded that government, nongovernmental organizations and families living with children and mothers could cooperate on strategies to minimize the risks of the diarrhea among children less than five years of age.

Preterm delivery is the leading cause of neonatal mortality. One of the best predictors to assess the risk of preterm labour (PTB) is by measuring fetal fibronectin (fFN) in cervico vaginal secretion after 26 weeks of pregnancy. The aim is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of qualitative cervico vaginal fFN in symptomatic women and asymptomatic high risk women during antenatal care. Prospective study which was conducted in Basrah Maternity and Child Hospital. It included 106 pregnant women at gestational age more than 26 weeks who had uterine contraction with or without pervious risk factors for PTB. Cervico vaginal fluid sampling was undertaken from all women included in the study after the age of 26 weeks of gestation and qualitative fFN assessment was done with 50ng/ml is the cut off point for positivity. As regard qualitative fFN assessment for predicting of PTB sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, were 71%, 87%, 40.50%, 94% respectively in symptomatic women. While in asymptomatic women with previous high risk had 26% sensitivity, 84% specificity, 32% PPV, and 87% NPV. Qualitative assessment of fFN in cervico vaginal fluid is good predictive marker in detecting of PTB.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.
According to WHO, Drug utilization research is defined as ‘the marketing, distribution, recommendation and utilize of drugs in a society, with particular focus on the resulting medical, social and economic results. In many developed countries, a number of studies about utilization of drug have been conducted, which indicates a wide proof of irrational drug use. The drug use indicators are considered as objective measures that can be extended to identify practices of medicines utilization in any health facility, country or an entire region. To check the drug utilize pattern in Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities of Bhakkar district Punjab Pakistan. Using WHO core drug use indicators, a prospective cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in health facilities of Bhakkar district. A total of 40 prescriptions were analyzed. The average age of patients visiting HC centers was 33.11 years (female 35.79; male 30.40). 3.65 was the average number of prescribed drugs. 27% was the percentage of encounters with at least one prescribed antibiotic whereas 35% was the percentage of encounters with at least one prescribed injection prescribed, which was low. 25% is the total percentage of drugs given using generic names was noticed. The average consultation and dispensing time of 40 prescriptions was 2.02 minutes and 42.52 seconds. The study demonstrates that trend toward irrational practice mainly on use of antibiotics and non-generic prescribing in most of health facilities studied. Patient care given by health facilities studied was inadequate and thus for encouragement of rational drug use practice, an effective intervention program is recommended.
Diabetes is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity in different continents of the world. Many diabetes victims are found in developing countries like Sub-Saharan Africa. However, some developed nations like United States and Europe record significant records on diabetes prevalence. Studies project a dramatic increase of the infection spread in the world. Also, it provides visible results on the effects of the infection among the victims and the society at large. Studies of type 2 diabetes prevalence indicate minimal rates in rural population and moderate results in the developed regions of the same country. Such results create an alarm to the unaffected regions. The frequent observation of modestly high prevalence of impaired glucose tolerance in areas with low prevalence of diabetes indicate risk of early stage of diabetes epidemics.

Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular zoonotic protozoan parasite, infect both humans and animals population worldwide. It can also cause abortion and inborn disease in humans and livestock population. In the present study total of 313 domestic animals were screened for Toxoplasma gondii infection. Of which 45 cows, 55 buffalos, 68 goats, 60 sheep and 85 shaver chicken were tested. Among these 40 (88.88%) cows were negative and 05 (11.12%) were positive. Similarly 55 (92.72%) buffalos were negative and 04 (07.28%) were positive. In goats 68 (98.52%) were negative and 01 (01.48%) was recorded positive. In sheep and shaver chicken the infection were not recorded.

The frequency of Staphylococcus aureus carriage among healthy food handlers at the students’ cafeteria at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri Nigeria was investigated. Nasal and throat swab samples were obtained from 54 food handlers, and analysed using standard microbiological methods. A total of 28 (51.9%) food handlers were positive for S. aureus. Twenty one of the food handlers (38.9%) harbor S. aureus in their nostrils, 11 (20.4%) in their throat, while 6(11.1%) harbor it in both their nostrils and throats. The exclusive colonization of the throat (20.4%) of the studied food handlers, demonstrated the importance of the throat as a site of colonization for S. aureus. Antimicrobial susceptibility of isolates shows that all the isolated S. aureus were susceptible to nitrofurantoin and cefuroxime, but resistant to penicillin, chloramphenicol, cotrimazole. The isolates were also 25%, 28.6% and 35.7% susceptible to ampicillin, amoxycillin and erythromycin, respectively. This study has further shown the need for routine regular screening of food handlers for both nasal and throat carriage of S. aureus so as to detect early and treat carriers in order to protect the general public from staphylococcal food poisoning. The high prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in S. aureus isolated from the healthy food handlers is of great public health concern, as it shows a growing problem of antimicrobial resistance in the community. This study thus, recommends an urgent formulation of a national policy on antibiotics by the Nigerian government for regulation and management of antibiotics use.

Ablo is wet bread, slightly salty and sweet, steamed and sold in the form of pellets. The study has for objective to follow microbiological and physicochemical changes during the fermentation of the millet’s dough and sorghum’s dough for the production of two new types of Ablo. The methodology adopted consisted in performing production’s essay followed by analyses in the laboratory. The dominant micro flora of the fermentation of millet-based Ablo and sorghum-based Ablo was constituted of lactic bacteria and yeasts and moulds. The evolution of lactic bacteria was inversely proportional to the decrease of the pH and the material dry during fermentation.
Diabetes is a rapidly and serious health problem in Pakistan. This chronic condition is associated with serious long-term complications, including higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Aggressive treatment of hypertension and hyperlipideamia can result in a substantial reduction in cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes 1. Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards. A database was developed to be used as an assessment tool and to standardize the documentation of achievement of outcomes. Feedback on the audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery and the database was received from the DCVR clinic pharmacist at a focus group meeting.

Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs molecules having approximately 18-25 nucleotides, they are present in both plants and animals genomes. MiRNAs have diverse spatial expression patterns and regulate various developmental metabolisms, stress responses and other physiological processes. The dynamic gene expression playing major roles in phenotypic differences in organisms are believed to be controlled by miRNAs. Mutations in regions of regulatory factors, such as miRNA genes or transcription factors (TF) necessitated by dynamic environmental factors or pathogen infections, have tremendous effects on structure and expression of genes. The resultant novel gene products presents potential explanations for constant evolving desirable traits that have long been bred using conventional means, biotechnology or genetic engineering. Rice grain quality, yield, disease tolerance, climate-resilience and palatability properties are not exceptional to miRN Asmutations effects. There are new insights courtesy of high-throughput sequencing and improved proteomic techniques that organisms’ complexity and adaptations are highly contributed by miRNAs containing regulatory networks. Diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the inability of body to produce or respond to insulin a hormone required by body to burn glucose for energy. Type I Diabetes mellitus, also known as Insulin Dependent Diabetes mellitus is a most frequent chronic disease of childhood, afflicts 0.2-0.3% of human individuals due to auto immune destruction of insulin secreting pancreatic β cells. GAD65 is the major auto antigen in Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IIDM). Thus, this project is aimed at expression of GAD65 in E. coli. GAD65 gene was cloned into pET-28a bacterial expression vector and expression was studied in BL21 DE3 cells. Different parameters of induction like isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG), temperature, time interval were standardized. The recombinant clones induced with 2 μM of IPTG at 30oC for 4 h at flask level produced the protein upto 537μg/ml. Furthermore, the specificity of the purified recombinant protein was confirmed by western blot analysis using monoclonal antibodies. This work establishes a strategy in E. coli for the expression of GAD65 with optimized parameters.
Hepatitis B, a common viral infection, affecting millions of people every year, leads to disability and death. It has become one of the alarming diseases in the world. Vaccination is the best possible way to prevent this deadly viral infection and its consequences. Unaffordability of the mass vaccination program due to low health budgets especially in developing countries have demanded the economical, effective and easily available vaccine production against hepatitis B virus. The expression of subunit vaccines and recombinant proteins in plants is a convenient, safe and potentially economical platform technology. Hence, development of a plant-based vaccine could be promising. Therefore, the present investigation focused on expression and large- scale production of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in Coleus forskohlii for the development of vaccine. Eight transformed C. forskohlii plants were generated via Agrobacterium -mediated transformation method. The integration of 681bp of HBsAg gene into the plant genome was confirmed using PCR. SDS-PAGE showed the presence of ~48kDa dimer and ~24kDa monomer form of HBsAg protein and the expression of recombinant protein was further confirmed by western blot. C. forskohlii expressed HBs Ag was recorded 260µg/g leaf fresh weight as measured by ELISA. Transformed plants of HBsAg showed the accumulation of Virus Like Particles of 22 nm size using transmission electron microscopy. This study offers a great potential for the large -scale production of hepatitis B vaccine in C. forskohlii which provides a strategy for contributing a means to achieve global immunization for the hepatitis B prevention and eradication.

Capsicum annuum L. is the extensively cultivated species of peppers (chilies) in all over the world. Its fruits are used for spiciness (capsaicin) and color (capsanthin) in our daily foods. Pakistan is the leading chili consuming country. Genetic divergence among 25 accessions (local and exotic) collected from Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (AARI) Faisalabad, Pakistanwas estimated from the data collected during the year 2014 in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan for different morphological and growth parameters viz fruit width, fruit length, peduncle length, number of primary branches, inter nodal length, plant height, seed index, 1000 seed weight, fresh and dry fruit weight, pericarp thickness, leaf area and seeds per fruit. Based on this characterization the plants were grouped into 5 clusters and diversity among accessions was indicated by the wide range of D2 values whereas phenotypic correlation for all the characters was found significant. Five components were selected as principle components with Eigen values > 1. These components exhibited 77.2% of the variation. The first principal component (PC I) explained 27.2% of total variation in original data, second component (PC II) explained 18.9%, and third principal component (PC III) explained 12.5% of variation. The other principal components (PC IV and PC V explained an additional 18.6% of the variation (a total 77.2% of explained variation. Accessions with distinct identity were marked, which are likely to be quite suitable for breeding through hybridization by combining desirable traits. High estimates of broad sense heritability (90%) for all the characters except peduncle length predicted that selection could be awarding in late segregating generations and above accessions could be utilized in hybridization programme for C. annuum crop improvement.

Raffias’ species are used in handcrafts, constructions, food processing etc. But in Benin, any quantitative ethnobotanical study was not evaluated for their use and socioeconomic impact of uses on average income. This study investigated the importance of use of raffias’ species and the impact of socioeconomic characteristics of informants on the household income. Ethnobotany quantitative approach was used and data on use, products prices and the quantity sold were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire administered during an interview. The result showed that raffias’ species in Benin are used principally for craft (CI = 1.41 for R. hookeri and 1.68 for R. sudanica), but R. hookeri was most important for people in Guinean zone than those in soudanian and soudano-guinean zones. The frequently uses were the beds, mats, baskets and roofs. The most part of the plant used is the rachis for both species and the less used is the nut. Education level, gender and main activities were socioeconomic variable which influenced the annual income from exploitation of raffias species. The uneducated, men and farmers took more income from raffias’ species than others. Also, the development level of areas where the species are found, influence the income from their exploitations. To evaluate better the contribution of raffias’ species to regional and national gross product, it will be necessary to study the value chain of the main products, but also take into account the informant categories defined in this study regarding operators.

This study examined the biochemical and histological changes associated with methanolic leaf extract of Gongronema latifolium in acetaminophen-induced hepatic toxicity in wistar albino rats. The serum liver enzymesALT, AST and ALP decreased significantly (p<0.05) in the test animals treated with 600mg/kg of the leaf extract. Protein concentration increased significantly (p<0.05) in the test animals treated with 600mg/kg of the leaf extract.The effect of the G. latifolium leaf extract seems to be dose dependent on the liver enzymes and protein concentration measured. The results showed that acetaminophen-induced hepatic toxicity in the wistar albino rats as observed in the negative control was reversed with the administration of the leaf extract of Gongronema latifolium (in groups 3, 4 and 5) in the test animals. The histological analysis of the liver showed that the extract had a normalising effect on the effected liver. These results indicate that the leaf extract of Gongronema latifolium exhibits biochemical and histological changes and can be used against some hepatic inflammations.

Interaction of cholesterol which is an essential structural component of animal cell membranes that is required to establish proper membrane permeability and fluidity and the bile chenodeoxycholic acid which significantly increased serum total cholesterol, and high-density-lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and dissolves gallstones appears to be one of pivotal problem of biomedical gastroenterology. The methods of spin labels and spin probes have been proved to be power tools for solving structural and dynamical problems of chemistry and biology on molecular level. In present work the method of spin probes was used for investigation of quantitative interaction of cholesterol and chenodeoxycholic acid in ethanol possessing dielectric properties similar to ones of biological membranes. Using Electron Spin Resonance of nitroxide spin probe, it was shown that in the ethanol solution cholesterol molecules form aggregates, modeling a gallstone, which effectively bound chenodeoxycholic acid. The developed method can be used for study relationships between cholesterol and chenodeoxycholic acid in the in human blood, high-density-lipoproteins and gallstones.
Phytochemical composition and antiradical activity of Sakersia africana Hook....Open Access Research Paper
The valorization of the medicinal plants of our country and determination of their impact on health due to their abundance of substances with various pharmacological effects are our principal objective. This study was evaluated the phytochemical screening and radical 2, 2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity of different extracts of Sakersia africana Hook. f.. The results revealed that Sakersia africana Hook. f. is rich in phenols compounds, sterols, triterpenes, alkaloids and reducing compound. The values in total phenols and proanthocyanidines are ranging respectively from 391.58 ± 0.04 to 777 ± 0.03 mg/100 g of drugs and 113.5 ± 3.17 to 653.5 ± 36.83 mg/100 g of drugs. Results also show that different extracts tested present antiradical activity with values of IC50 ranging from 164.21± 0.014 to 195.54± 0.012 % and abundance in bioactive compounds. This study could justify the use of Sakersia africana of some chronic diseases.

Andrographis paniculata, Allium sativum and Adhatoda vasica are the three important medicinal plants in which it is used for daily consumption by the user especially in the rural areas. Not only rural people are seeking for the medical benefits from the medicinal plants but also urban people because trying to eliminate the side effects of synthetic medicine on health. Research using these three plants should not stop here and must be extensively employed by the researchers and try to get more medical properties which is useful for the public. Andrographolide from Andrographis paniculata is the active component obtained from the aerial parts of this plant, having very bitter taste. It is a bicyclic diterpenoid lactone with multiple pharmacological activities. In 1997, garlic (Allium sativum) was the most widely used natural supplement in US house-holds. Garlic was shown to be used more than twice as much as any other natural supplement. Extract of Adhatoda vasica leaves has been used for the treatment of various diseases and disorders in Ayurved and Unani medicine. The plant has been used in the indigenous system of medicine in India for more than 2000 years. Compounds which are present in the plant/s which when consumed it promote the health of the consumers although some studies suggest that consumption may lead to toxic effect but in general it is safe to consume moderately. In many literature survey, researchers are trying the best to overcome the bacterial resistance by isolating compounds from the medicinal plants (one of the method) due to the resistance of bacterias towards synthetic chemicals. Observation of Io’s Resurfacing via Plume Deposition Using Ground-based Adapt...Sérgio Sacani
Since volcanic activity was first discovered on Io from Voyager images in 1979, changes
on Io’s surface have been monitored from both spacecraft and ground-based telescopes.
Here, we present the highest spatial resolution images of Io ever obtained from a groundbased telescope. These images, acquired by the SHARK-VIS instrument on the Large
Binocular Telescope, show evidence of a major resurfacing event on Io’s trailing hemisphere. When compared to the most recent spacecraft images, the SHARK-VIS images
show that a plume deposit from a powerful eruption at Pillan Patera has covered part
of the long-lived Pele plume deposit. Although this type of resurfacing event may be common on Io, few have been detected due to the rarity of spacecraft visits and the previously low spatial resolution available from Earth-based telescopes. The SHARK-VIS instrument ushers in a new era of high resolution imaging of Io’s surface using adaptive
optics at visible wavelengths.

Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.

Intravital microscopy (IVM) is a powerful tool utilized to study cellular behavior over time and space in vivo. Much of our understanding of cell biology has been accomplished using various in vitro and ex vivo methods; however, these studies do not necessarily reflect the natural dynamics of biological processes. Unlike traditional cell culture or fixed tissue imaging, IVM allows for the ultra-fast high-resolution imaging of cellular processes over time and space and were studied in its natural environment. Real-time visualization of biological processes in the context of an intact organism helps maintain physiological relevance and provide insights into the progression of disease, response to treatments or developmental processes.
In this webinar we give an overview of advanced applications of the IVM system in preclinical research. IVIM technology is a provider of all-in-one intravital microscopy systems and solutions optimized for in vivo imaging of live animal models at sub-micron resolution. Earliest Galaxies in the JADES Origins Field: Luminosity Function and Cosmic ...Sérgio Sacani
We characterize the earliest galaxy population in the JADES Origins Field (JOF), the deepest
imaging field observed with JWST. We make use of the ancillary Hubble optical images (5 filters
spanning 0.4−0.9µm) and novel JWST images with 14 filters spanning 0.8−5µm, including 7 mediumband filters, and reaching total exposure times of up to 46 hours per filter. We combine all our data
at > 2.3µm to construct an ultradeep image, reaching as deep as ≈ 31.4 AB mag in the stack and
30.3-31.0 AB mag (5σ, r = 0.1” circular aperture) in individual filters. We measure photometric
redshifts and use robust selection criteria to identify a sample of eight galaxy candidates at redshifts
z = 11.5 − 15. These objects show compact half-light radii of R1/2 ∼ 50 − 200pc, stellar masses of
M⋆ ∼ 107−108M⊙, and star-formation rates of SFR ∼ 0.1−1 M⊙ yr−1
. Our search finds no candidates
at 15 < z < 20, placing upper limits at these redshifts. We develop a forward modeling approach to
infer the properties of the evolving luminosity function without binning in redshift or luminosity that
marginalizes over the photometric redshift uncertainty of our candidate galaxies and incorporates the
impact of non-detections. We find a z = 12 luminosity function in good agreement with prior results,
and that the luminosity function normalization and UV luminosity density decline by a factor of ∼ 2.5
from z = 12 to z = 14. We discuss the possible implications of our results in the context of theoretical
models for evolution of the dark matter halo mass function.

Abstract
The use of mixtures of organic fertilizers present in the cultivation areas is of paramount importance for
farmers who produce in the family farming system, in this sense, the objective was to study the mixture of
hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) with carnauba straw (Copernicia prunifera) in the productivity of
lettuce in the semi-arid region from Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in the
experimental area of the Department of Agronomic and Forestry Sciences. The experiment was carried out in a
completely randomized design in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, with three replications. The first factor consisted of
five amounts of the mixture of jitirana with carnauba straw (0.0; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 and 6.0kg m-2 of area), and the
second factor for the forms of application to the soil (embedded and cover). The lettuce cultivar planted was
crespa, which is widely sold in the semi-arid region of Brazil. The evaluated characteristics were: Plant height,
diameter, number of leaves, lettuce production and dry mass. The research results showed that the amount of
4.5kg m contributed to the increase of the evaluated characteristics, with values of 115 and 11.97g plant-1. The
use of a mixture of organic fertilizers (hairy woodrose and carnauba straw) was extremely effective in the
production of vegetable crops, bringing agronomic advantages to the producer.

Introduction
Aiming at an agroecological production, many
researchers and farmers seek a sustainable and
diversified agriculture with systems of use with low
chemical inputs (Altiere, 2002). According to
Linhares et al. (2018) the use of organic sources in
the region of Mossoró, RN, Brazil is of great
importance for vegetable growers, with manure (beef,
goat and poultry) as inputs, however, the dependence
on these sources contributes to the increase of
production costs, as farmers do not always have these
resources available on their properties.
Aiming at agroecological alternatives, many
researchers have carried out research with farmers
who seek sustainable agriculture with diversified
systems with low use of chemical inputs (Altieri,
2002), which is of great value to farmers who work in
the organic agriculture system. In these areas, where
various vegetables are grown, lettuce (Lactuca
sativum L.) is an annual herbaceous plant,
originating in the Mediterranean, with a small,
unbranched stem, to which the leaves attach (Santos
et al., 2011) , being the most important leafy vegetable
in the diet of the Brazilian people, consumed as a
salad (Yuri et al., 2006).
In the semi-arid region, organic fertilization is widely
used in the production of lettuce (Linhares et al.,
2022). The amount to be used depends on the quality
of the available fertilizer and local conditions, soil,
climate and management (Freire et al., 2013).
However, when green manure is applied to the soil, it
provides ideal edaphic conditions for greater
vegetable production, given the productive potential
of phytomass and nitrogen concentration of
spontaneous species from the semi-arid region,
compatible with legumes, such as hairy woodrose
(Merremia aegyptia L.) (Linhares et al., 2021).
This species presents green and dry phytomass
production in the order of 40000 and 6000kg ha-1,
respectively, with an average nitrogen content of
23.0g kg-1 and a carbon-nitrogen ratio of 23/1, being
quite prominent during the rainy season in the semi-
arid region and found in the cultivation areas of
farmers who work in the production of vegetables in
an organic system in the region of Mossoró, RN,
Brazil (Linhares et al., 2021).
Another species that is important in terms of use as
an organic fertilizer is the carnauba tree (Copernicia
prunifera L.), which occurs in the semi-arid region
and is used by farmers in the production of vegetable
crops (Linhares et al., 2014).
Several scientific studies have shown the use of
alternative organic sources in the semi-arid region to
meet the nutritional needs of vegetable crops, such as
coriander (Linhares et al., 2018a; Linhares et al.,
2018b; Linhares et al., 2014a and Linhares et al.,
2012), lettuce (Linhares 2009) carrot (Linhares et al.,
2014b) and radish (Linhares et al., 2013).
In this sense, it is extremely important to use
alternative organic sources that provide satisfactory
edaphic conditions for the development of vegetable
crops. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the mixture
of hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) with
carnauba straw in the productivity of lettuce in the
semi-arid region of Brazil.
Materials and methods
Characterization of the experimental area
The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse of
the didactic garden of the Department of Agronomic
and Forestry Sciences of the Federal Rural University
of the Semi-arid (UFERSA), Mossoró, RN, Brazil, in
soil classified quartzarene neosolin (Empraba, 2018).
The experiment site was in the municipality of
Mossoró, RN, Brazil, located at 5º 11' south latitude
and 37º 20' west longitude and altitude of 18 m.
According to Thornthwaite, the local climate is DdAa',
that is, semi-arid, megathermal with little or no
excess of water during the year, and according to
Köppen it is BSwh', as dry and very hot, with two
seasons: a dry period, which generally covers the
period from June to January, and a rainy period,
between February and May (Carmo Filho et al., 1991).
The soil was collected in a quartzarene neosol to
compose the 0.4 m x 0.32 m containers used for the

development of the research work. Before the
installation of the experiment, soil samples were
taken at a depth of 0-20cm, which were air-dried and
sieved through a 2-mm mesh and subsequently
analyzed at the UFERSA Laboratory of Soil Chemistry
and Fertility. The results were as follows: pH (water
1:2.5) = 7.6; Ca = 3.4cmol dm-3;mg = 1.2cmolc dm-3;
K = 32.0mg dm-3; Na = 6.7mg dm-3; P = 33.8mg dm-3
and M.O. = 0.4g kg-1.
Statistical delineation and treatments
The experimental design used in the entirely
randomized with treatments arranged in a 5 x 2
factorial scheme, with 3 replications. The first factor
consisted of five amounts of the mixture of hairy
woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L) with carnauba
straw (Copernicia prunifera) (0.0; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 and
6.0kg m-2 of area in dry basis), and the second factor
consisting of two forms of application to the soil
(incorporated and cover) in single cultivation.
Irrigations were carried out (morning and afternoon)
in order to maintain the soil at field capacity for the
full development of the crop. Cultural practices were
carried out (removal of invasive plants) preventing
competition for water and nutrients with the lettuce
crop. To compose the mixture of fertilizers in the
research, jitirana (Merremia aegyptia L.) was used, a
spontaneous species from the semi-arid region with
production of green and dry phytomass in the order
of 42000kg ha-1 and 6000kg ha-1, respectively, with
nitrogen content of 24.7g kg-1 at 104 days after
emergence and carbon nitrogen ratio of 23/1
(Linhares et al., 2021) (Fig. 1).
The hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) was
harvested in an area of 3.0 ha in the semi-arid region
and crushed in a forage machine, dried in the sun, four
samples were taken and sent to the soil fertility and
plant nutrition laboratory of the Center for Agricultural
Sciences at UFERSA for analysis of carbon (C);
nitrogen (N); phosphorus (P); potassium (K+); calcium
(Ca2+); magnesium (Mg2+) and carbon/nitrogen
ratio, whose values were: 535g kg-1 C, 23.5g kg-1 N
(nitrogen), 10.8g kg-1 P (phosphorus), 15.4g kg-1 K
(potassium), 9.7g kg-1 Ca (calcium), 11.7g kg-1mg
(magnesium) with a nitrogen/carbon ratio of 23/1.

Another species used as fertilizer was carnauba straw
(Copernicia prunifera), which occurs in the semi-arid
region, and is used as an organic fertilizer for
vegetables (Linhares et al., 2014). The species was
collected inside the experimental farm Rafael
Fernandes-UFERSA, Brazil, in an area completely
occupied with the species, and the straw was crushed
in a forage machine to obtain the substrate to be
mixed with the jitirana. The chemical composition
found in this material was: 19g kg-1N (nitrogen); 12g
kg-1P (phosphorus); 9.3g kg-1K (potassium); 8.7g kg-
1Ca (Calcium) and 9.6g kg-1Mg (Magnesium) (Fig. 2).

The fertilizers were mixed and applied to the soil, with
the material remaining for an incubation period of thirty
days before planting, as recommended by (Linhares et
al., 2012). During the decomposition process of the
mixture of hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) plus
carnauba straw (Copernicia prunifera) in the soil,
irrigations were carried out in all plots up to field
capacity, being of fundamental importance in the
nitrification process (Meurer, 2007).
Plant height: determined from a sample of five plants,
with a millimeter ruler up to the inflection of the leaf,
expressed incm plant-1. Diameter: determined from a
sample of five plants, measuring the distance between
the opposite margins of the leaf disc using a
melimetric ruler, expressed incm plant-1.
Number of leaves: determined from a sample of
five plants, counting all the leaves and expressing
units plant-1. Lettuce production: determined from
the fresh mass weight of all plants, weighed on a
1.0g precision scale and expressed in g plant-1 and
dry mass : Taken from a sample of five plants, in
which the dry mass was determined in an oven
with forced air circulation at a temperature of
65°C, until constant weight was reached, and
expressed in g plant-1.
Statistical analysis was performed according to
conventional methods of analysis of variance (Kronka
and Banzato 1995), using ESTAT statistical software
(Barbosa, Malheiros and Banzatto, 1992). The response
curve fitting procedure was performed using the ESTAT
Software (Barbosa, Malheiros and Banzatto, 1992).
Results and discussion
There was a significant effect at the probability level
P<0.01 for all the characteristics evaluated in terms of
the different amounts of the mixture of hairy
woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) with carnauba
straw (Copernicia prinufera) (Table 1).
The increase in the evaluated characteristics of the
lettuce crop is probably due to the nitrogen
concentration that varied between 19.0 and 23.0g kg-1
for carnauba straw and hairy woodrose, respectively,
considering that this element is responsible for leaf
expansion (Taiz and Zeiger, 2017).
According to Oliveira et al. (2010) the organic system in
the production of vegetables is of paramount
importance, as it influences the physical, chemical and
biological properties of the soil, since they have
conditioning effects and increase the capacity of the soil
to store nutrients necessary for plant development.

Regarding the forms of application to the soil of the
mixture of jitirana with carnauba straw (incorporated
and cover), no statistical difference was observed for
plant height, number of leaves, diameter, fresh and
dry mass of lettuce, with values of 12.7 and 13.8cm
plant-1 for plant height, 13.6 and 14.5 units plant-1 for
number of leaves, 18.6 and 18.1cm plant-1 for
diameter, 87.2 and 87.8 g plant-1 for fresh mass and
9.0 and 9.3 g plant-1 for dry mass, respectively (Table
2). Absence of significance between the forms of
application to the soil of the mixture of jitirana with
carnauba straw, is probably due to the availability of
nutrients present in the forms of application,
contributing to the development of the crop.
Regarding plant height, there was an increase of
5.45cm plant-1 between the smallest amount (0kg m-
2) and the largest (6.0kg m-2), obtaining the highest
plant height of 12.86cm plant-1 in the amount of 6.0kg
m-2 of the mixture of hairy woodrose (Merremia
aegyptia L.) plus carnauba straw (Copernicia
prunifera) (Fig. 3). Linhares (2009), evaluating the
spontaneous vegetation as green manure in the
agroeconomic performance of leafy vegetables, found
a plant height of 16.0cm, lower than the
aforementioned research. Neves et al. (2018)
evaluating sucessive crops of lettuce fertilized with
bivine manure in the presence and absence of bean
found a plant height of 12.1cm, lower than that
research. According to Oliveira et al. (2010) the
highlight of the cultivation system on lettuce yield, is
probably due to the functions that organic fertilizers
have on the physical, chemical and biological
properties of the soil, since they have conditioning
effects and increase the soil's ability to store nutrients
necessary for plant development.

In the characteristic number of leaves, the data were
adjusted to a quadratic equation, with an inflection of
the curve in the amount of 4.5kg m-2 of the mixture of
hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) plus
carnauba straw (Copernicia prunifera), with a
maximum number of leaves of 16.43 units plant-1
(Figura 4). Neves et al. (2018) evaluating sucessive
crops of lettuce fertilized with bivine manure in the
presence and absence of bean found a number of
leaves of 14.0 units plant-1, lower than that research.
Linhares (2009), evaluating the spontaneous
vegetation as green manure in the agroeconomic
performance of leafy vegetables, found a plant height
of 16.0cm, lower than the aforementioned research.

For the characteristic diameter, it was observed that
there was an increase in the diameter up to the
amount of 4.5kg m-2 of area of the mixture of hairy
woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) plus carnauba straw
(Copernicia prunifera) with a maximum value of 21.7cm
plant-1, occurring a decrease afterwards referring to the
amount of 6.0kg m-2 in area, with a value of 18.9cm
plant-1 (Fig. 5). Neves et al. (2018) evaluating successive
crops of lettuce fertilized with bivine handling in the
presence and absence of bean found a plant height of
20.9cm plant-1, lower than that research. Paiva (2016)
evaluating the study of lettuce and conetro in
consortium and monoculture under different
fertilizations in two periods found a diameter of 26.78cm
plant-1, higher than that research. A similar behavior was
observed by Oliveira et al. (2010) studying the
productivity of lettuce and arugula in an intercropped
system, under organic and mineral fertilization, found a
diameter of 25.7cm plant-1.

The amount of 4.5kg m-2 of area of the mixture of hairy
woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.) plus carnauba straw
(Copernicia prunifera) promoted the greatest increase
in the green dough and dry mass of lettuce, with
maximum values of 115.0 and 11.97g plant-1, with a
reduction in the later amount, with values of 114.46 and
9.42g plant-1 in the amount of 6.0kg m-2 of area (Fig. 6
and 7). This characteristic is of paramount importance,
considering that this is the form of commercialization in
agroecological fairs and supermarkets in the semi-arid
region of Brazil. Neves et al. (2018) evaluating successive
crops of lettuce fertilized with bivine handling in the
presence and absence of bean found a green mass of
85.0g plant-1, lower than that research. Paiva (2016)
evaluating the study of lettuce and conetro in
consortium and monoculture under different
fertilizations in two periods found a green mass of 53.4g
plant-1 in first cultivation, below the referred research.
Linhares et al. (2009) studying the influence of coverage
as green manure on the agronomic performance of
lettuce, found a green mass of 70g plant-1, a value below
the referred research.

Conclusions
The research results showed that the amount of 4.5kg
m contributed to the increase of the evaluated
characteristics, with values of 115 and 11.97 g plant-1.
The use of a mixture of organic fertilizers (hairy
woodrose and carnauba straw) was extremely
effective in the production of vegetable crops,
bringing agronomic advantages to the producer.
