Mission San Luis Obispo De Tolosa was founded on September 1st, 1772 by Father Junipero Serra to honor the Bishop of Tolouse. It was originally located in the Valley of Bears but is now located at 741 Palm St. in California. The local Chumash people helped the Spanish settlers at the mission through trading and assistance. After 63 years of operation, the mission church was burned down by an arrow fired by a pagan Indian. Today, the mission site includes a church and park, and has added a hotel and expanded park areas.
