Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

4. HALF-DAY PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP A
Wednesday 25th May 2016 | Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore | 8.30 - 12.00
HALF-DAY PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP B
Wednesday 25th May 2016 | Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore | 12:30 - 16:30
Global Government Payload Exploration for Asia-Pacific
Workshop Leader: Rich Pang, Hosted Payload Alliance
Bespoke System Solutions for Maritime MILSATCOM Applications
Workshop Leader: Wes Schenck, Technical Sales and Special Projects Manager, Cobham SATCOM
Workshop overview:
The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) will offer a workshop intended to explore current
examples of successful commercially hosted government payload programs and
where those successes may help accelerate adoption of similar programs for
government customers across Asia-Pacific. The experts from HPA member companies
will offer an unbiased view with a diverse base of satellite owner-operators, launch
providers, payload and satellite manufacturers and others. These experts will bring
forward lessons learned from their respective hosted payload programs as well as
foster an open dialogue about technical considerations, procurement and funding
challenges as well as opportunities for industry and global governments to collaborate
to further leverage these time and cost reducing means of accessing space. The
Workshop is intended to serve as a targeted discussion on hosted payloads and a
forum for open dialogue between government and industry participants.
Why you should attend:
• Case studies and lessons learned from proven commercially hosted government
payload programs
• Announcements and updates on new hosted payload programs signed in 2016
between government and industry
• Direct dialogue between experts in industry and government on key opportunities,
benefits and obstacles surrounding hosted payloads
• Leveraging commercial to achieve “national space program” objectives –
revealing benefits of ownership models where hosted payloads can fulfil national
satellite requirements at a fraction of the cost and time to orbit
Workshop overview:
Maritime MIL SATCOM solution requirements vary from client to client. Many RFP’s
have unique specifications and requirements; some are very clearly stated others
can require additional dialogue to firm up the system requirements. In this workshop
we will identify and discuss the basic system requirements including operational
frequencies, polarization, EIRP, G/T, etc. and match these with the various system
solutions available today as well as what will be possible in the near future. We will
discuss the certification and testing requirements as well as lessons learned during
the MIL-STD testing / verification process. In some cases a MIL hardened commercial
SATCOM system application is required and we will discuss the approach to these
solutions as well. We will discuss GEO TX/RX, RX only, LEO/MEO trackers and LOS
system solutions.
Why you should attend:
This workshop is aimed at those involved in the design, specification, procurement,
installation or use of stabilized maritime MIL SATCOM systems. Participates will gain
a better understanding of the challenges faced when procuring maritime SATCOM
systems for military use, helping them to understand the key elements of successful
systems, and to get a manufacturers perspective on the possibilities for present and
future military maritime SATCOM systems.
About the Workshop Leader:
Wes Schenck is currently the Technical Sales / Special Project Business Manager for
Cobham SATCOM, Sea Tel products. He has been with Cobham SATCOM (Sea
Tel) since 1995. During his time with Cobham SATCOM he has been responsible

and Ka frequency bands. Cobham SATCOM (Sea Tel) is the recognized leader
in customized marine stabilized antenna systems with antenna sizes ranging from
60 cm to 3.7 meters. Wes has traveled the world supporting his clients in the
specification, design, certification, operation and maintenance of these systems.
About the Workshop Leader:
Mr. Rich Pang joined SES in August 2015 and serves as the Vice President of Product Management for the Government Market Solutions Center where he is responsible
for assessing the global governmental and institutional markets, identifying customers’ requirements, and leading the identification and/or development of SES’
products and solutions to meet our customers’ needs. Prior to joining SES, Mr. Pang worked at SES Government Solutions (SES GS) where he served as the Senior Director
for Hosted Payloads. He was responsible for seeking, pursuing, and securing opportunities to support U.S. Government missions around the world through the use of
hosted payloads. In May 2010, Mr. Pang retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty one years of service. In his last assignment, he
served as the Director of Operations at the Program Executive Office for Environmental Satellites in Silver Spring, Maryland.
