The document compares and contrasts military life in ancient Sparta and modern America. In Sparta, boys were inspected at birth and sent to military training at age 7, with death or exile as the consequence for failing fitness tests at age 18. Spartan women's role was to bear strong children to fight for Sparta. Now, American military service is voluntary and provides benefits like free healthcare and education. People have more freedom now to choose whether to serve compared to the compulsory system of Sparta.

2. The movie 300 is a tale of the Battle of Thermophylae, were 300 Spartans march to fight the Persian army, with King Leonidas. His army fights over what the movie says a million of Persians and nearly kills them. But because of there small army they all die. Leonidas knows that after this battle there will be no survivors and he later states that they will all die for there country Sparta, which they end up doing. 4. Military Life: General The military is something many developed countries have around the world. People have the military and soldiers so that when it is time to protect your country during an outbreak of war there are people, men and women, who would protect and fight for there country. The military life has changed throughout the years, especially from Spartan life to now during the 21 st century. Life has changed and so has the ways of the military.

5. Military life for boys The military life in Sparta starts very early. When a boy is born they are immediately inspected for an sort of deformity in there body. If they did not find any then they would life with there mother for seven years. Once they are seven they would then have to enter the military and start there treacherous training for many years. When they reached the age of 18-20 they would have to take a fitness training test. If they pass then they are in the army until the age of 60. If not then they are killed or shunned forever. Many of these boys die young due to the very hardships of military life of training and battles in Sparta.

6. Spartan Women Even though women were not aloud to be in the army during the Spartan times they still played a very hard role. They had to stay fit and strong to have many healthy Spartan babies that would later fight for Sparta. By the age of 16 a women would be forced to marry a man in the military they would only see each other a couple of times and during those times a women should conceive a child. The women would be in charge of the upbringing of the child until the age of 7. Then the child would be sent off to the military.

7. Military now: America The military life in America is very fair. People who want to join the military are able to without any restrictions or guidelines. Men and women also have a right to decide now. When you join the army in America you are able to get free health care, free education, and a monthly salary even after you have finished serving your time in the army and fighting for your country. America also shares its army with its allies around the world when needed.

8. Americans, men and women, have a decision to make if they want to join the army. They do not have to join it if they do not want to. Free health care, education, and salary for the rest of there lives. Children were expected to be in the army by the age of 7 till the age of 60 if they were able to pass the fitness testing.
