Milford Sound is a prized scenic spot of New Zealand. We often see the fjord with its perfect mirror surface water surrounded by soaring peaks, a kind of idyllic scenery. It was not like that when we arrived. We had battering gale and hard rains of the Southern ocean. The captain closed all the exits to the decks. I took these photos by stealth, unsheltered from the heavy rain and the gale force winds, but surrounded by numerous narrow strings of waterfalls with the occasional tumbling powerful waterfalls from the sky. Milford Sound was more like a wild and forbidding water under1world than the peaceful heavenly landscape. The quality of the photos are wild but never delicate.
