The Midwest Fetal Care Center was established in Minneapolis/St. Paul to offer fetoscopic laser ablation therapy for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which had previously not been available in the region. Two doctors from separate practices, Dr. Block and Dr. Feltis, traveled to Belgium for six weeks of intensive training after fellowships in the US did not provide adequate instruction. They have since successfully treated over 20 cases of TTTTS, exceeding national survival averages. Their collaborative model between pediatric surgery and perinatology specialties has helped contribute to their positive outcomes.
