My Secondary Level Reflections

My attendance was almost perfect with just 3 absences, two of which were due to delays. I enjoyed activities that made us work as a team but sometimes forgot materials. This self-assessment reflects on my skills at the beginning and end of the course, areas for improvement, and how writing exercises and daily activities helped me progress.
Learning through reflection
- Students enjoyed using online tools like Duolingo and Quizlet to learn vocabulary and verbs in a fun way outside of class. Using these apps helped them improve and feel more confident in their French skills.
- By exploring language independently online, it allowed the teacher to focus on more interactive activities in class like using the SmartBoard and videos. Students appreciated having class time to practice what they learned online.
- One beginner student felt they had made progress in building basic sentences and felt more comfortable speaking in French with a simple vocabulary about themselves and daily activities. While still learning, they felt confident about continuing French study.
Four dimensions reflection
Nadya Rutherford completed a primary practicum teaching English to a group of fifth-year students. She was able to successfully apply concepts learned in her teaching course, such as Total Physical Response and Content-Based Integrated Learning. While anxious at first, she grew more comfortable over time. She reflected on needing better classroom management strategies and feeling ready to teach primary students confidently with more practice. The experience helped her check her knowledge and she was glad to get to know the students. She discussed challenges of teaching English in public schools versus private schools in Argentina and challenges teachers face with strikes.

Midterm reflection
- 1. Spanish 3 is a very challenging topic with many additions to learn. I have gained much knowledge from the first quarter and I continue to succeed. I am very thankful for my teacher because she has a experienced background and knows what she is doing. She explains the sections we are going over in great detail answering all the questions the class has to offer. She is definitely not easy, but her persistence is what keeps me going and keeps the class in line. My vernacular for Spanish is simple but I have learned many new words that I hadn’t know before. I have enjoyed working together in groups to achieve common goals because it is fun and entertaining. My teacher knows when we are getting a little out of hand and she straightens us out thankfully so we can finish our work. I also enjoy using the computers in class because it gives us more than one way to learn spanish such as making flash card on Quizlet or publishing out work to an online blog. One of the things that I struggle with are the speaking questions we have to do on tests. They are challenging because we cannot write anything down and we must remember everything we planned out before. I mainly need to improve my test scores to bring my grade up to an “A”, but getting 100’s on quizzes would help too. In order to improve, I shall spend more time studying my vocabulary and grammar so that I can ace the quizzes and then maybe go to some after school tutoring if I don’t have tennis practice.
