Personal Space : Crossing Digital Boundaries - Project Proposal -
Concept “Personal Space: Crossing Digital Boundaries” is an interactive installationpiecewhere viewers can physically interact and effect the movements of a projected person
Questions • What does personal space mean in the digital realm? • How can we define our boundaries of personal digital space? • Do our interactions with people differ in a digital environment versus a actual place? • What are the consequences of our behavior when we cross these “digital boundaries”?
Precedents Chris Sugrue : Delicate Boundaries (2007) View ProjectSite
Precedents ART+COM: De-Viewer (1992) View Video View ProjectSite
Precedents Human Connectedness: Portrait of Cati(2001) View Video View ProjectSite
Points of Interest Derived from the Precedents • The theme of blurred lines between the virtual and real • User’s physical interaction with the installation • The viewer’s actions effect the outcome of the piece • Elements of honest human behavior and reaction
Initial Prototype
Initial Sketch
User Scenario
Next Steps • Investigate the best technologies to use by creating prototypes using jitter, processing, and oF • Decide between an IR camera and simple motion detection • Look at possible environments for this installation: How does the context of the piece change if it is presented in a public place versus a gallery space? • Choose someone to be my “digital human” and decide what types of movement they will do, and what actions will be the triggers
Thank you.
